Geo: 10.6053, 103.531After a later start than expected, well I was enjoying chilling having a coffee with Kenny before I left, I got on a very hot and dusty road on the way out of Kampot. I was no sooner away than I came across a Buddhist parade coming along from their temple. There are many people involved not just in the parade but the police too for controlling the traffic, it's quite an affair so I become onlooker for a short spell and snap a couple of pictures before setting off again. I've 100km today to Sihanouk Ville but I know already it's going to be a killer, I've used all my small change buying that last coffee which only leaves me enough for two small bottles of water on route and with no breakfast ... read more

We said goodbye to Phnom Penh and started our drive out to Sihanoukville. Once on the toll road it was very smooth and we quickly travelled in to the country. Unlike Vietnam there was little ribbon development probably because there are less people here. There is a wide variety of crops grown not so much rice as Vietnam although they do export rice, however more fruit and vegetables. We stopped at a cafe for a drink but decided peeled oranges were best. There were Buddhist monks outside with their bowls, all we had were sesame seed crunch which we gave away but they did not look too pleased to receive it. Continuing for about two more hours we then came to the river estuary and boarded a boat with the park ranger. This was the heart ... read more

Day 157 (Mon 11thFeb) My last morning in Saigon was one where I had to pack up and move on. I got sorted and headed to the tour shop who’d organised my taxi to the airport. Got out to the airport in way too much time giving me 2 odd hours sat around in the departure lounge. Watched a bit of tv then boarded my plane. I was flying to Phu Quoc island. Phu Quoc is Vietnamese although a lot closer to Cambodia and is sort of disputed. The island is also incredibly similar in specification as the Isle of Man, where I’m from. It is the same length, width, size per sq mile and population. Only difference is its nicer, cheaper and far hotter. I got to my guesthouse to be told they were fully ... read more

Feb 12 2013 Utopia! How fitting. Yesterday me, Corndog, Adres and Carl came to serendipity beach in Sihanoukville. We checked out in Otres beach and found our way to Utopia. Literally, the hostel is called Utopia. Im in desperate need of work and serendipity is the place to be! Everywhere has signs advertising for western staff. It was impossible to work anywhere in Otres Beach because it was soooo dead. Nice for vacation, but not for poor/broke me. I fucking paid $3.50 for friend rice!! 3 fucking 50. Oi gioi oi!.. Now I find myself in a little backpackers paradise and a bit more civilized than these hippie ass places I’ve been. I went out looking for work and came back with a few prospects, but luckily I actually ended up getting a job behind the ... read more

Feb 9 2013 Today can only get better from this bus journey… and it did, like times a million! Have to say this was like the best day ever. We shared a tuk tuk to Otres beach with Phillip, the Australian guy who witnessed to bus horror. We were looking for cheap rooms and found this great place ON THE BEACH. $8 for a room with 2 double beds. Easy to fit 4 people. So the 3 of us will share, sweet! I’m so nervous though because I only have $45 left for the rest of the trip. Little to my knowledge, Phillip paid for the room! So considerate of him. It also helped him ease his conscience about not giving me his seat on the bus. Side note: we’ve had really ... read more

Feb 8 2013 It’s about to be the longest day ever! We’ve been going to Angkor Wat the last 2 days so by day 3 it gets tiring. We arrive at 6:15 for a very anticlimactic sun rise. No pink sky, just a gradual lightening of the sky. BUT to be fair, it was still an amazing experience to see the main temple of Angkor Wat in the light of dawn. It’s truly an remarkable sight to see. After that we went to the next temple, Bayon. WOW! This is me and Radhika’s favorite one. It was such an impressive temple with endless spires filled with faces. Seriously straight out of Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider. And it was so nice to be able to cycle around all this beauty and history. By the time we ... read more

On passe ... read more

HE SAID... We woke at 6.30am, breakfasted on the riverbank at 7am and jumped into our minibus at 9am. We were leaving Kampot and travelling west to Sihanoukville, which was only a two and a half hour trip. We had a quick stop at Veal Renh at 10am and snaked our way through a fascinating roofed market that fronted the main road. We jumped back into the minibus and continued our westward journey to Sihanoukville. We arrived at 11.30am and drove straight to the Starfish Bakery and Cafe for lunch. I had a grilled chicken sandwich and iced coffee, while Ren had a tuna sandwich and iced tea. It was a fantastic and very filling lunch, as the bread was made from sticky rice. We also had an enormous cookie each (which was part of the ... read more
