Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Out the gate and decided to take the Mondolovi loop for a change of direction. We decided to take the road toward the picnic area at around 6:20 a.m. and all of a sudden see two cheetahs walking along the edge of the road. Wow! We watched them head off hunting, climbing on mounds to check things out and just doing regular cheetah like things. We were not alone in watching them and it was kind of funny because we would all move forward and then stop as the cheetahs moved along. We watched them for over 30 minutes and then they lay down and we decided to go to the picnic area and fix some cereal for breakfast. Could see cars still watching the area where we had last seen the cheetahs so ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Still was raining off and on as we set out today. First thing we saw was the back end of a lion in the bushes on the side of the road. Didn't look like it was moving anywhere so we continued on. Saw lots of leopard tortoises crossing the road and you had to dodge to keep from running them down! There were also hundreds of millipedes crossing the road and you kinda looked like a drunk driver weaving all over the road to keep from running them down. We decided to splurge and go have breakfast at the restaurant at Skukuza since it was cold as well as raining off and on. They had a wonderful breakfast buffet that we took full advantage of and kinda really pigged out! The coffee was delicious ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Fifth ones out the gate this morning. First thing we saw were some hyenas sniffing the ground, looking up and appearing to be one the track of something. They ran off into the bush and we could not see what they were after. One of them had a collar on which we found interesting.Robert made a good spot of a giant eagle owl that we got to enjoy for a short while. Then we saw another hyena but this one behaved in a most unusual way! It came walking up to our car sniffing the front, then the tires and came over and looked in my window. It did not seem to be afraid of us and definitely did not look fierce at all! I thought for a minute it was going to put ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Raining again and we are moving to Lower Sabie. Decided to go for a short drive and see if the rain would let up. Saw one large elephant feeding on the side of the road. Came back and hiked the "rhino trail" around the perimeter of the camp. Was interesting and at one point part of the electric fence was sparking. Don't know what caused this!Packed up in the rain and headed to Lower Sabie. Decided to stay on the tar roads and had quite a day. Saw a great number of rhino on this road. There was one with a baby and some in the river. We came across a large group of ground hornbill. They are always so interesting to watch. Saw a mother and baby zebra. The young animals are always ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Up and ready for adventure even though it was raining. We decided to take a road to a waterhole but there was not much happening there. We were not able to continue on the road because it was blocked off. We went back and took another side road which turned out to be a great adventure road. Glad we have experience on this kind of road.We were coming down off a hill when Robert saw a bird fly into a tree and signaled for me to stop the vehicle. It was a pearl spotted owlet! They are very tiny and have what looks like eyes on the back of their head! Spent a little bit of time watching it as it was looking around. Came off the road and headed back to camp. As ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018 Today was moving day from Skukuza to our next camp. We were able to get everything packed up and still be out the gate by 5:45!We were heading for our regular places to check out when we saw a vehicle stopped and people looking out their window. They told us there was a leopard out there and then said there was one in a tree back behind us. 6:15(Writing this story some days after the event so there could be a possibility we actually saw 3 leopards in this one setting)We started looking and sure enough picked up the sighting of the leopard. It was a very large one and seemed to be intent on something. We watched it as it moved along and then moved across the road. It was very large ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Fire !!!!! Two years ago here in Kruger we experienced a power surge that fried the power adapter for my Dell laptop. We asked around here at Skukuza and as was suggested we Drove to a town outside the park, Malelane. They had one with many tips but did not have one with adaptor for our model. Drove on into Nelspruit to a mall and they had one. We bought a 220 V surge protector cube as well. Just now Laura shouted and I looked down, thedamn 110 plug end of the power adaptor we bought two years ago was actually aflame, as in on fire. This time hope to find one in nearby Hazy View. Just went in to get more internet data bundles on Monday. Good news is, since Monday....the ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Got up and out the gate. First we see a hyena and then another and then two rhino as the sun is rising. Then we come upon the hyena den with at least nine hyenas around and there were two mother hyena nursing. There was a great deal of caterwauling going on as well.King of the HillThen we saw what looked like rhino playing king of the hill with one rhino on top of a hump with three other down around this hump. There was a tour bus looking at them and am not sure if they were the first to see this or not!Went to the Shitlhave dam to check things out and saw some birds and then went back to check out things near where we had first seen our cheetah (getting ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018No more meat pies! We had been to Hazyview the day before and Robert had a meat pie for lunch and by the early this morning was not feeling so well.We were up for our early morning drive and were treated to a large and very powerful looking rhino come running past our car as we were driving down Waterhole road. We finished our drive down Waterhole and decided to head back and were treated to some wonderful mongoose on the side of the road. We also were stopped by a group of game drive vehicles looking at something. We finally got a sighting and it was a klipspringer perched on a rock. These are tiny little antelopes that perch on the tips of their hooves and are so very cute to watch.Back to ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Well, it finally happened. It appears we have run out of data time and must go get some more uploaded into the dongle. We decided the closest place was Hazyview and we were familiar with the mall where the MTN shop was. So was it a game viewing day or travel to town day?Drove the Waterhole road and the road we saw the cheetah in hopes of seeing some sort of good game. We did see some nice groups of elephants along the way and then were out on the main road again. We came on a group of rhinoceros; one of them seemed to be very young. Watched them for awhile and then continued on our way.Just as we left the rhino, a car came towards us. We waved to the people and ... read more
