Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Out the gate and head down the gravel road near the T junction to see if the leopard is to be found. No leopard so head on down toward the Lower Sabie bridge. Stop at one of the pull outs and see a very beautiful Goliath heron down in the water. Then here come seven lions walking down the middle of the road. We think they may be the same group of young lions we saw a year earlier at this very same spot. Follow them and then they turn around and we are now right beside them and the largest of the young males makes a move toward our car. Fortunately was like a elephant false charge!Back to check out the leopard that was hanging out at the gully near the T junction to ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Number one at the gate and we are off. Head down the road toward the river and see two lions, one male and one female coming down the road and then they move off into the brush. Then we are close to the T junction at Skukuza there is a leopard down in the gully. Finally got into position and watched it try to catch a impala. No luck but then the leopard moved up into the tree and we realized the leopard already had one kill up in the tree.We then drive Numbi Road heading toward Shitlhave dam and pass a car and then see the car has stopped. Turn around and they have found a beautiful female leopard down in a gully. New rule when out on game drive, always check the gullies ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Decided to go into Koomatiport and try our luck with Vodacom data bundles since MTN is not working for us. Saw three rhino on our way out of the park. We also saw some giraffe necking as well as a giant eagle owl. Koomatiport is the easiest city to get to leaving the park. It is very close to the park and it is mainly fields of cane on the way to town and so it is easy in and out!Did our shopping and were back in the park in time to fix lunch. Went on afternoon drive and decided to head up toward Lubyelubye bridge and test our luck. There was a sighting jam and sure enough there were six lions strung out on the sand down in the river. One VERY big ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018Moving from Satara to Lower Sabie which is a fairly long drive. The road down to Tsokhwane was very quiet as far as the "hairly scaries" went. Went to the overlook to see what the water looked like and things were fairly dry. In fact, we did not see any animals moving in the distance which is very unusual.Did see four ostrich, and one of those nice to see antelopes, the reedbuck. Do not see them very often. We also were entertained by five ground hornbill moving through the grass and then some double banded sandgrouse which are also very rare for us.Continued driving and came upon a very big elephant on the side of the road. Stopped to watch him and he passed behind our car very close but we were being very ... read more

Geo: -24.9854, 31.6018lions and elephants close to each otherday leopard in tree 5:31 in the gate Since we knew where there was a leopard down the road, we headed in that direction in hopes of finding the leopard there a day later. But as we are heading down the road, there is a lion very close to the side of the road. It is kind of tricky in the early morning because it is still dark at 6:00am when the gate opens and so you have to be careful and be looking for things sitting on the side of the road like this lion.Got to the place where the leopard kill was and were able to be a good position to watch the show. It was a male impala he had killed and at one point ... read more

Geo: -24.9982, 31.5921drive timbavati road leopard crosses road and elephant goes on a rampagealso before that the giraffe using tongue to pull down leaves to eat.The day was overcast and windy but we decided to head down Timbavati Road to see what we could see. We really do love this road even though it seemed to be quiet that morning. We did see elephant, tawny eagle and ostrich as we were heading down the road.We also got to see a giraffe using its tongue to reach up and pull down leaves. It was interesting to see how long the tongue was and the ability to use it to his benefit. Also got to enjoy four ground hornbill walking down the road.Came to a traffic jam and people told us there was a leopard that had killed ... read more

Geo: -24.9895, 31.5857Get packed up and on the road and headed to Skukuza. Decided to take the tar road because would be the quickest route based on road conditions. The speed limit on the tar roads is 50kmph and on the secondary roads if 40kmph so observing the speed limits does make a difference. While planning this trip had read on SanParks forum about the death of a cheetah by a speeding automobile and did not want to be a part of this.Even driving the tar roads, you get to see quite a bit and this particular day proved to be an example of a great day on the tar roads! Took a quick drive down the road to the Sweni Dam but there were no elephants in sight but there were some hyena with a ... read more

Geo: -24.9895, 31.5857Don't know how we did it, but we were #1 at the gate at Satara. Since Satara is the big predator campground, the line to get out is usually past the service station when we get there at 5:50 am on a typical day.Decided to do the H-6 road which runs roughly parallel to the S100 but is a tar road. We saw tje five cheetah on this road and are always checking. Did not find the cheetah but did come across a female hyena and two young with some sort of kill. They were eating on the remains and up sneaks a black back jackal trying to sneak in and get some of the remains. The mother warned the jackal off and then they headed out. There did not seem to much more ... read more
