W Etoshy wcześnie wstawalismy i późno chodziliśmy spać, a dnie spędzaliśmy przemierzając park w poszukiwaniu zwierzyny. Poszłam do immigration cała dumna, ze mam kwit z ministerstwa i zaraz dostanę nasze paszporty, a z paszportami i kwitem - według ministerstwa - możemy jechać dalej. No nie wiza, wiem, ale ... read more

Smutni i zmęczeni dotarliśmy do naszego Caotinha Guesthouse. Postanowiliśmy pojechać jednak do parku narodowego Etosha oglądać słonie i lwy w sobotę rano - zgodnie z planem, i wrócić w poniedziałek.

The last leg of our two week journey was to go look for some rock formation that looks like a wave. 400km later we found the place to be closed. F that. That was a waste of time and gas money…stoopid…But we found ourselves back in Otjiwarongo at the cheap campsite enjoying a refreshing beverage after the longest part of the trip. Then along came a South African fella who really was just looking for company but his talkings turned quickly into race related topics. I pretended to go check my phone and came back to Matteo being all amped up. I then heard that Hitler created the perfect race so I left to sit in the bar. That’s where I met a few Namibian guys who were getting after it real hard and I had ... read more

The Himba tribe is a unique group of only 50,000 strong left in the remote northern part of Namibia and spreading a little bit into Angola. We actually got to the border of the two countries and tried to get across just for fun to check off another country, but they were very unrelenting in letting us step foot onto their soil. Oh well, continuing on to the town of Opuwo where we could grab a guide and he would take us to a Himba village for some cultural interaction. The only two things I wanted to see in Namibia were the Fish River Canyon and the Himba tribe so I feel so lucky that I got to do both! The Himbas live a traditional way off the land without modern conveniences. They are also the ... read more

We had to make a pit stop in Windhoek to drop off Zac because he needed to leave the country and go back to work on a game reserve in Botswana. Sad to see a fellow cohort disembark from a journey, but glad he came with and partook in all activities J We also extended the car rental from 6 days to 15 cuz theres so much to do and see in this country! Back on the road after a final meal together we decided to stop in the town of Otjiwarongo for some cheap camping. Cheapest ive seen my entire 3 months yet. The next day we made it to Etosha National Park for my second safari of this cross continental campaign. We saw soooo many animals but im going to list the good ones; ... read more

08 November 2015 About 500 million years ago the Fish River Canyon started forming when a fracture in the rock structure formed a broad valley which was deepened 200 million years later by the glaciers of the Dwyka Ice Age. Following further erosion and about 50 million years ago the Fish River started to cut its meandering way along the valley floor to form the two level canyon we see today. This morning we drove the 10k from the campsite to the edge of the canyon to be amazed by the sights highlighted in the early sunshine. Then it was a 70 k journey to the canyon’s southern end at the spa resort of Ai Ais. The rest of the day was spent enjoying the pools filled with naturally warmed spa water followed by a short ... read more

07 November 2015 There was a treat for us for the first 180k of our journey today, it was on a tarmac road! But in one respect it was the same as gravel, hardly any traffic on one of Namibia’s major routes. About 10 vehicles during its entire length. We had a coffee and apple cake, one of the local staples, at the delightful and amazingly remote Seeheim Hotel before facing another 100k of gravel which took us to our last major feature of our stay in Namibia, Fish River Canyon. Fish River Canyon is 161k long, up to 27k wide and 550m at its deepest. It reminded me of Arizona’s Grand Canyon, but being only about one third of its depth it was much easier to see the river snaking along the bottom of this ... read more

On the road again down to a place called Luderitz. This town is home to some of the fastest wind surfing on the planet as well as a ghost town lying on the outskirts. The ghost town is a ruminant of the diamond era which came and went in the area. Apparently it is also the home of the first x-ray machine used too. Probably to find the jewels people be tryin to sneak out. Ha. When we got to the ghost town it was closed so Zac jumped the fence to snap a few pics for us all J The other awesome thing about Luderitz was the hostel where I triedto camp at. The owner was gracious enough to offer me a sweet little dig instead of camping, as its super windy all ... read more

We are passing through an area of Namibia with a very small population. The place is empty except every 150k or so we come to minute settlements like this one called Helmeringhausen which have just a small shop, petrol station and possibly a hotel.
Interesting straw bale sign outside the hotel in Helmeringhausen where we had a delightful coffee stop
