Shopped Around the old Medina Treated ourselves to local hammams. The caretakers of our Riad took my husband and I to the local hammams they frequent. they were located at opposite ends of the Medina but each of us got quite The scrub With coffee grinds The best part they costed less than 70 MDR We are not sure how we got there right left straight left right and thru a narrow passageway and a metal door and voila you have entered a vaulted space. With white slippery tiled floors and steamy hot. I came out feeling 5 pounds lighter for shedding /Scrubbing away dead skin. If you have the time treat yourself to one.... read more

Hassan Tower Mausoleum of Mohammed V Necropolis at Chella Ville Nouvelle Today we visited all of the above sites Walked thru the boulevards of the ville nouvelle and sipped on cafe Au lait in a laid back cafe The atmosphere of the ville nouvelle is a far cry from the bustles of the old Medina The boulevards are wide and flanked by mostly white art nouveau buildings similar to the parisians the rabatians afford themselves the occasional laid back experience of a cafe seated in rows along the walkways facing the streets and observing the comings and goings of daily life Some discuss passionately and some sit in silence sipping on a cup of coffee served in a small clear glass What is striking about these sites are the tile work the mosaics the plaster and ... read more

It has been a long while But our long time dream of visiting Morocco Has come true the Riad had arranged for a driver to pick my husband and I from the airport at different times My husband arrived in the afternoon and I arrived at midnight As I drove thru The city, I was not sure how to describe it Modern? Traditional? Old? Safe? Crowded? I was dropped off at the entry to the old city and was greeted by Ibrahim the keeper of the Riad We walked thru the old city, dirty, full of trash and stray cats, I wondered what I got ourselves into this time The alleyways were being cleaned But at this late hour the activity was overwhelming we walked thru several dark alleyways, before we arrived at our Riad Ibrahim ... read more

Rabat – Capital city with a thousand cats (& kittens). A Travel back in time experience……. The Start - Flying out London Stansted to Rabat We fly from Stanstead Airport with Ryan Air to Rabat – they only fly Tuesdays and Saturdays which is a bind as we will arrive in Morocco in the last two days of Ramadan. So being in the country for the end of Ramadan and Eid itself we thought, should be an interesting experience. The plane leaves 45mins late and is ok, despite the irritating screaming kids whose Moroccan parents don’t seem to give a toss about the noise they are making. The flight time is about 3Hrs. In Rabat, Passport/Immigration Control is fast and efficient and could have been quicker had the airline given out the Landing Cards to fill ... read more

25.- €, alles in Ordnung.

... read more

Day 8 & 9 8 is a sea day sailing from Barcelona to Casablanca. Booked a massage (Elke’s was good). Went for a hot tub. Only crazy Canadians will go into a hot tub in cool weather with a gale force wind blowing. Played scrabble and went for dinner to the buffet restaurant (we had never done that). Elke had Cioppino which wasn’t quite as good as the Pelican Club in New Orleans. 9 we are up early for a tour of Casablanca and the capitol Rabbat. The tour guide spoke to us only in Arabic for a good 10 minutes until some people started asking for English. Nuri the guide answered in English that this was the Arabic tour. Best part of the tour. Bus headed for the King’s Palace. I have very little internet ... read more

The sun breaks through and it's a fabulous day in Rabat. Yesterday we did have a quick look at the souk. Gus, who has been setting the fashion agenda this trip, decided he needed a new pair of trackies. He has discovered that all you need are tracky pants. You can wear them out to the best restaurants, wear them for sightseeing and sleep in them. Like a carefully planned police operation we sent in our Chief Negotiator, Becs. Starting price was DHM150 final price was 40 plus a cigarette, the Moroccons are always a sucker for throwing in a cigarette. For some reason it works best on the kids. Rabat is a lot more orderly than Marrakesh. The markets are a lot of fun and have a much more local feel to them. There are ... read more
