Kangaroo Island From Adelaide we did a one day trip to Kangaroo island, used to be inhabited by many kangaroos. Now there are more koalas. So many that the government started birth control and sterilisation programmes to reduce the number of koalas. So we saw koalas, kangaroos, walaby's and seals. The coastline was also nice and the remarkable rocks, so called for their funny shapes. We vertrekken ... read more

On Wednesday I caught my flight out of Perth for Adelaide. The actual flight to Adelaide doesn't usually take that long, but I'd booked a ticket with a stop over in Melbourne. This added an extra 4 hours to the time it could have taken so I rocked up in Adelaide at about 9pm. Managed to find a shuttle bus, I was the only one on it and I got a guided tour from the driver who was pretty cool. Met up with Rob and spent the next couple of days checking out the city, overall there wasn't a lot to do but it's a nice city. On Thursday I found out that I got the scholarship I was after in Newcastle, was pretty chuffed about that as it means I won't have to worry ... read more

Well, the clock's-a-ticking and there is heaps left to do. I guess going fishing last Sunday when Amanda had lined up a whole heap of work on the Kamper and Prado, wasn't such a good idea. Not to worry, while the water was a bit rough, any day fishing is better than any day helping the wife organise the Kamper. Opened up the Kimberley Kamper for the first time last weekend, since before Easter and everything was mouldy from moisture. I wonder if having the beast on the back lawn next to the sprinklers was such a good idea, but too late now. At least we are getting some of the wet stuff from the heavens and the Kamper is getting cleaned every so often, daily at the moment. Damn near forgotten what that wet stuff ... read more

Finally the rain came and the week after we headed to the hills to see the colours of Autumn. You really can't go past Mt Lofty Botanical gardens - it has a large number of northern hemisphere trees that put on a stunning display - and it aslo includes part of the Heysen trail. You can revisit our last blog about the gardens Apple picking and Mt Lofty Botanical Gardens We saw numerous glimpses of southern brown bandicoots - see pictures scurrying around the place. Rat-like but with short tails. We visited Fern gully - although it took quite a bit of effort to get there - and found it as delightful as ever. This "Dan says..." is a video as he has gone to bed and if I don't get these blogs done now - ... read more

I have to apologise for my lack of blog writing but we are in the process of just settling down now after all of our exploration in Asia. So, with family life as the norm now, we have a little time to ourselves to blog what we missed out. This is our mission for the next couple of weeks. I will be reminiscing about the latter part of our Asia trip and hopefully fill everyone in on what we have done with our first week in Adelaide. Sorry for the wait, i promise we'll be up to date ASAP! x... read more

Made it and still alive…what trip would not be complete without breaking 2 cameras and having your wallet nicked, and splitting your head open? …I am having the worse luck this trip let me tell ya...I am in Adelaide now after a long 6 day tour on a bus through the outback….there were 17 on the bus and it was quite fun….i got to do the things I wanted to do, like sleep under the desert sky in a swag, the unnerving bit were the bugs that also sleep there, we had a massive scorpion in our breaky tent about 20 feet from where I was sleeping….but with my keen ability of losing things I have determined I am the only traveler that has a pak that keeps getting smaller and smaller…. We went to ... read more

Well, the first week of Australia was a pleasant one and one that went far too quickly for my liking too. It appears that once back in semi- normality, the concept of time slows down momentarily and then quickly speeds up, so by the time we fully realised our position in the world, one week had already passed. The reason for this was primarily due to being quite busy in the first couple of days, which i suppose sets the wheels in motion and sets a precident for the following weeks. We arrived bleary-eyed after catching our transfer flight from Singapore with our lovely Singapore Airline carrier and hostesses. The flights were average, nothing special to report, except that we were probably the most uncomfortable we had ever been during our travels. Comfort just wasn't on ... read more

Tuesday 10th April - Wednesday 11th April From one small town to another……..today we caught our penultimate greyhound bus to Mission Beach, a small coastal town just south of Cairns. The plan was to stay here for two nights using the time to relax before hitting the busier city of Cairns and its party scene. Unfortunately for us the weather over these two days was not ideal, remaining pretty overcast and damp for the duration. What is more, the beach here was a little disappointing compared to others we had encountered along the coast but understandably so as this town had been hit by a cyclone the previous Summer and the beach had still not recovered. I think all three of us will agree that Mission Beach will be most remembered for its first night, ... read more

So have been in Adelaide for the past 5 days, I think after leaving cairns. Pretty uneventful flights, 1 was a bit bouncy particularly when taking off and landing, but we all got off alive. Have been staying in a half decent hostel, well the people there are cool and have been having a laugh with em, but the area is somewhat a bit suspect. Have been told that adelaide is the worst city for crime in australia, and the street i'm staying on has the highest number of murders, so have been a bit cautious when i've been out, have to say that I still haven't come across any adelaide rap or the rappers. But really haven't been out too much, have been staying in and reading alot during the day, then getting some ... read more

My last full day here in OZ today, fly out back to Dubai tomorrow night, and have to be honest, am looking forward to getting home and back into the swing of things.
