Hey there all!! Have finally made it home to Australia and in one piece. The flight was long and tedious (with not working tv for 12 hours), but it was great to be home at the end of it. The weather is gorgeous here and am so glad to be out of the heat of Dubai. Last night it was actually nice to be abe to see the stars!!! No pictures for this entry, because i have only been here one day!! I will send some soon however.... read more

Adelaide is probably the best example the grid style city. I've noticed it in a few cities before, like Christchurch and Melbourne, but in Adelaide it's even more evident. The perfect rectangular of the central city is criss-crossed with a symmetric grid of streets and carefully placed squares, while all streets start in the central avenue. The center city is completely surrounded by parks that separate it from the suburbs, with roads going out through the parks in the nine symmetric directions. The suburbs themselves are smaller separate grids. The whole city is painfully planned. My immediate thought was that I'm witnessing here very new cities, much newer than those I know in Europe, and that's the reason they are so planned. See what I did with the title there? Poor really wasnt it? A sense of relief has overcome me as I slide into the computer seat and finally get to writing up about Adelaide. I seem to have been meaning to write it for days, infact I have tried once before, but without much success due to it being after an evening at the pub earlier on the road. Best to leave it, we thought... So we stayed just around the corner from Rundle Mall, which is the main shopping area in the centre of Adelaide. The YHA was nice, with a good atmosphere ... read more

I have seen a variety of wild-life throughout my trip, but nowhere it was as concentrated as on Kangaroo island. Penguins, seals of different kinds, platypus, koalas, wallabies and kangaroos, of course, to name a few of the animals we saw. I believe I've already commented about the way wild animals seems unusual to me, and it was even stronger now. Walking near the farm we were staying at and noticing a big lump on the tree that turned out to be a Koala seemed even more strange and special. But I really understood that when we got to the "pelican circus". In Kingscote, the bigger town on the island, there's a guy who feeds the pelicans there every evening. I don't know how did it start, but clearly it's more for the tourist than ... read more

Time spent travelling along the Great Ocean Road from Adelaide to Melbourne. Stunning coastal scenery and cooler temperatures, made this part of my trip really enjoyable. Staying at hostels along the way we visited the areas coastal attractions, including the'London Bridge' and the 'Twelve apostles'. Whilst in Melbourne I visited the famous MCG Cricket staduim and spent some time chilling out and recouperating after catching a cold. ... read more
