Well, I'm already on the flight back now, and it's only three and a half hours to go now. As with most vacations, it all seems to be both short and long, regarding the time since I was on the plane the other way around. But this time the variation was really outstanding. I sort of feel I had about six different vacations since hanging around with friends in Boston was very much unlike the family oriented vacation in Chicago, which in turn bore no resemblance to the desert holiday for two in Palm Springs (which I didn’t have time to tell you about). Even the first long leg of travel, from Boston to Chicago, going through frozen Cleveland and the Great Lakes area felt very different from the second and longer from Chicago to Las ... read more

Ok, Las Vegas is a but too much for me. Seems everything I do goes wrong. I guess you can't really go against the flow here Anyway, when you overhear two people in the street saying "Let's go find Elvis", and you don't know if they're kidding or not, you know that you're in a weird place. . I need to get out of here.... read more

A view from a bus

So glad I've decided to not take the night bus to Vegas and instead stop for the night in Salt Lake City. The views were absolutely amazing, and I got to see some REAL snow just before I lose it (almost) to the end of my vacation. And it's especially nice since up until now, even before the Great Plains, there wasn't too much to say for the view. And now, mountains everywhere! So without further ado, here are some photos of very big chunks of rock. ... read more

I've often heard and used the terms fast-food and junk-food, but I've never really understood them. Till now. The way I'm traveling, makes it sometimes quite hard to eat properly, especially on the bus. So I'm left with all the McDonald's lookalikes, and worst (BTW, I still want eat in actual McDonald's, for reasons I no longer remember). And really, it is fast. In a standard unfamiliar to me. A whole bus goes in a fast food franchise somewhere in Indiana, we have only 15 stop, and everybody eats and still have time. Then another bus gets there, and dealt with as swiftly. But, of course, what we actually eat is total junk. Tough meat, dead vegetables, unrecognizable sauce. And everything with fat cheese and dry bacon. But the worst things are the beverages. They give ... read more

When a man finds himself one night in Des-Moines, Iowa, he should really examine the decisions that led him there. For me, it made me think luck and chance. Despite the fact that this whole trip seems kind of made up at the last minute, I've actually planned it pretty well. I had a full itinerary from Boston to Los Angeles, with a couple of possible variations, that's it. I knew what I've wanted to do on the way and whom I meant to meet. Everything seemed to be ordered. But as usual, chaos had something to say about my trip too. For instance, when I've decided to reopen this blog I didn't know that a certain faithful follower of this blog (Hi A!) will notice I'm in Boston, alert her son which was also in ... read more

When I've boarded the first bus back in New-England, it was half empty, quiet and had wifi and electric power. All this changed when we left New-York at Buffalo and entered the Mid-West. Now the bus is less new, no electric sockets, and instead of the neat kid from Rochester, I'm sitting next to some weird old guy who smelt funny and tilted his seat right on the poor guy behind him. But on the Cleveland to Chicago bus I really got the Full Monty, especially since Toledo . And I'm not just talking about the resident crazy guy, self (and loudly) proclaimed to be an air force officer, gay, porn star, up and coming Hollywood actor, holding top secret proofs to alien presence on Earth, and believing in God (but not the Devil). All in ... read more

As I'm leaving Massachusetts I want share with you my way of remembering how to pronounce the name of this beautiful but unpronounceable state. Remember Pikachu? From Pokémon? Well, it starts very similar, but instead of "Pika" you say "Masa". And then? Then you just say "sets", like in "the sun sets". That's all - "Massa-chu" and then "setts". Massachusetts. Had a lovely time, thanks! Here I come, New York! ... read more
