Once we felt comfortable that we had slipped the authorities in Mount Gambier, we could enjoy the country side. It was raining off and on again and it was not long until we could check off our daily rainbow. Then we got stopped by a ferry river crossing that was not shown on the maps, but that gave me time to snap my daily windmill shot. Before long the scenery really changed to flat, and I mean reall y flat. Stopped for a bite to eat in a really quaint little town and shot one of the many stone churches...they are gorgeous. The country side then turned to what for a lack of anything else...a golf course that went on forever...it was beautiful. Shot a picture of Kangaroo Island before sunset, and one as we left ... read more

sorry for the delay in writing guys, but i have been a bit.....well..... lazy!!! My apologies for all. NOW!!! Onwards we go towards South Australia. We head along the highway towards Mount Gambier. This quaint little place is actually a volcanic crater surrounded by 3 lakes. The most photographed of these is the blue lake. Now, no one really knows why the lake is blue. Some say its because of some kind of bacteria that grow there, others say its due to light affecting it. I think its probably bacteria. Anyhow, there's actually not that much to see here otherwise. You can dive the blue lake, which has amazing caves to dive through.......................but we didn't fancy this much, and wanted to continue through. So we thought we'd get the camera out, take a picture of the ... read more

The morning gave us the opportunity to grab the free bus and get the lay of the land. Adelaide is a perfect example of someone really doing a great job of laying out a straight forward grid system with prominent "squares," but....traffic engineers have managed to make a mess of it with one way streets and no turn designations. Anyway, we're really likeing the AUS cities. they have a lot of character and plenty to do. And they have an amzing amount of greenspace that really gets used. The free bus system lets us tourist get a handle on things. Off to the Botanical garden. I really enjoyed seeing all the classes of kids in the gardens and they were all wearing hats. This garden is only a couple of years newer than Melbourne..they are ... read more

...So we are in South Australia... on our tour one of the first things we saw was a car just off the road...in a tree! it was mad the car had swerved to miss a kangaroo at 100kmph and ended up in a tree! We saw some more massive egales this time they were really close cos they were eating a dead kangaroo on the side of the road. Just before we arrived at Coober Pedy we stopped at the Longest Man made "structure" on the planet...longer than the great wall of China! its only a little fence but it stretches nearly the whole width of Australia and was used to keep Dingos away from Sheep...so we played the sheep and Dingo game to illustrate this! lol. We eventually arrived at Coober Pedy named by ... read more

Round Two! Since this blog is following on straight away from the last one, if you haven't read about my time at Uluru and Kings Canyon flick back a blog and read it first otherwise this one won't make much sense! We'd finally got used to getting up at a ridiculous hour of the morning to catch all the sunrises so we all felt pretty spoiled when Micah allowed us to sleep in till 7am, though it's not an easy thing to do when your feet have turned to blocks of ice in a swag! After breakfast we hit the road to get going to South Australia. One of the first things we saw on the road was a car completely mangled in a tree - a reminder to everyone not to swerve if you meet ... read more

Lady C has not only departed but has arrived- at this stage in Anchorage. Travel, arrival & hotel all A.O.K. The only glitch was in the departure schedule. I had planned to dump herself at the airport drop off zone, depart without any parking fees, and return via Kelsey Cottage for a celebratory meal. Her outdoors put a veto on this and we had the meal on the way down whilst she was still with. Dampened the celebration somewhat but at that stage she was still the one who had to be obeyed. Some of you have visited Kelsey - for those who have not - Come stay with us and we will take you. - Take & if you twist our arms pay for. Regards to all and as things move and info is available ... read more

The Great Ocean Road is a gorgeous piece of coastline which I would put on a par with the West Coast of the South Island in NZ. The sort of place where you load Bic Runga or Damien Rice, onto the iPod, and listen to the music as you observe the scenery passing by while thinking and discussing deep philosophical thoughts! I am lucky, in times like this, that Damien prefers to be the driver - I can be the observer (and DJ!). One of the many beauties of Pearl (our 1995 Ford Falcon stationwagon), is that she doubles as an accommodation block. Depending on your choice of public carpark, truck stop or camping ground, you can wake up to million dollar views! We have fitted roo-shoos onto the car. They look like a type of ... read more

This page is dedicated to all my workmates and the pics are from my leaving drinks on Sat 26th. I have got to know some of you really well and I will miss working with you. Thank you to you all for everything- laughing at my jokes, letting me beat you at pool, cheering me up when I was homesick. I've had some great laughs with you and hope that you'll remember me (like you have a choice!). If any of you ever come to the Uk make sure you get in touch, I'd love to see you again. Before I say goodbye just a few special messages: Brendan (aka Beaver Cheeks!) Sorry you left before we got a chance to get a pic together. I think you're great and will miss you and your ... read more
