Ok, where to start...
I'm 26 and from the Highlands in Scotland. I decided to start this blog because I'm heading off travelling for a while and I figured that friends and family could check in whenever they wanted rather than me bombarding them with emails every week - but I'll be completely gutted if no-one reads it!
I'm following the well trodden path round Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Singapore and then onto Oz and New Zealand. My adventure starts on 27th November 2006 and I've no idea when it will end but I'm so excited (and a bit scared) about whatever waits ahead.
And so it begins...!
Kia Ora! Just watched the video of my bungy I've attached to the blog and feel ever so slightly queasy! Can't believe this is my last blog from New Zealand, the time's just zoomed by! In the morning in Wanaka, Heather and I spent a couple of lazy hours strolling down by the beautiful lake while the others went to Puzzlingworld. We then all met up and headed south towards Queenstown, passing round the edge of Lake Dunstan. Our first stop was at the Kawarau Gorge which is famous for its bridge which was the first commercially operated bungy site in the world. Loads of the bus decided to give the 43 metres bungy a go but since I'd done the 50 metre one in Thailand last Christmas I had decided to save my money for

After a fond farewell to Les we continued our journey south, stopping for one of the many random tours you are obliged to do on the Kiwi Experience. This one was a tour of the Bushman's Centre in Pukekura. The tour showed us how people make a living in the west coast and it was quite funny to see footage of guys throwing themselves out of helicopters and landing on deer to catch them for farming - especially when they missed! Francois was lucky enough to feed the massive boar that lives in the centre but didn't feel so lucky once he ran out

We were up and away early the day we left the beautiful Taupo and took in some gorgeous views as we drove round the eastern shore of the lake before heading to Turangi (the trout fishing capital of the world and a fave spot of Jack Nicholson's, though I never saw him!) for lunch. We then drove to Tongariro National Park and some of the bus went for a walk while others, me included, opted out since our feet were covered in blisters from the eight hour hike the day before. Instead, Heather and I amused ourselves in the village of Whakapapa, taking pics of the sign which

But first things first. Following on from the last blog, our night in Waitomo was spent tramping through the bush in the pitch dark looking at glow worms and practically crawling through caves which was a bit random but a lot of fun. The next morning was spent lazing about since some of the bus were doing black water rafting, something I gave a miss to save some cash. Then we headed off on a two hour journey to Taupo during which I became more and more depressed because it was raining and I was convinced I'd not get to

After a sleepless night thanks to some extraordinarily loud snoring, we got up to find it was absolutely hammering it down with rain in Auckland. We jumped back on the Kiwi bus, met our new driver Mar, and got taken up to Mount Eden, one of 70 dormant volcanoes in the region, which usually gives excellent panoramic views of the city. Not on that day though since the cloud was so low we could barely see five foot infront of us! So we headed south and stopped at a small town called Thames for lunch, named by Captain Cook because the Waihou river that runs alongside the town reminded him of the Thames in London. Luckily by

I was so sad to say goodbye to Oz but as soon as I was in the air I started to get excited about what lay ahead in NZ. After the usual dramas at the airport (I must look well dodgy, I always get my bag searched! Mind you, this was the first time it happened when I was getting off the plane!) I was met in Auckland by my mum's cousin Betty who had very kindly offered to put me up for the night. I spent a lovely afternoon with her getting shown some of Auckland's sites and hearing

It's a very weird feeling to have gotten to this point after being here for eight months, I'm not so sure I want to leave! I've had a total blast travelling around Oz, have met tons of fantastic people, a fair share of complete and utter weirdos, and what seems like the entire population of Ireland! The last few months in Sydney have been amazing, I absolutely love the city and think it might even beat Melbourne as my favourite city in Oz (controversial I know!). I can't say I've done anything too productive since I've been here but I have definitely mastered the art of making the perfect jager bomb, a

Out of sheer luck my friend from home Laura arrived in Sydney a few days before me and without knowing it we booked into hostels straight across the road from each other, spooky! Since Laura and her boyfriend Michael were planning on staying in Sydney for a few months we decided to try and find a flat together. Easier said than done though, so we were resigned to staying in hostels for at least a couple of weeks. We were staying in the notorious Kings Cross, a pretty shady area of Sydney but the one with most of the hostels, so once again I had lived up to my tradition of landing in

Loading up the car with seven loads of backpacks and other items (such as Leanne’s crutches!) was a bit of a mission but after a bit of effort we got the bags and the people in the car and we were off! First stop was a wee visit to Pin Oak Court, perhaps better known as Ramsay Street to most of you, since the others hadn’t seen it yet. No filming going on for us to have a peek at unfortunately but once again I ran round the street like a little kid, delighted to be there! After that we were back in the car and heading off towards our first night’s destination, Eildon, Victoria. We had decided to take a slightly unconventional route to Sydney

I had planned to make life easy on myself and shamelessly plagiarise Ant and Emma’s blog but since the blog site crashed the other day most of the blogs have been lost. After being close to tears I managed to salvage mine but I don’t know if everyone will be so lucky. What a complete and utter nightmare. So I’m a bit hesitant about continuing with posting blogs on the site but I’m going to persevere and just make sure I back everything up! Anyway, on with the story of my adventures! On leaving Sydney I flew back to Melbourne. I had booked the flight because I had thought I’d be going on to New Zealand
