It’s been another fun day in Georgia. I obviously don’t comprehend what I’m in for at the Rally the next couple of days. This morning there was a mass exodus from my campground with folks leaving to camp on the Georgia National Fairgrounds 14 miles north of here. There were some sights with electricity, but I think most will be dry camping. Of course dry camping in a modern RV is very little different than staying in a campground. You may need to run your generator some and watch to not fill your gray and black tanks, but they are large enough that several days without a sewer connection is not a big deal. When I passed by the site on my way to Macon, the RVs were lined up to “move in” to their campsites! ... read more

Welcome to day two of my journey down memory lane. Today was forecast to be mostly cloudy with a slight chance of showers so I opted to change around my outings around. Even though an overcast sky provides a great “softbox” for macro work, I decided I wanted to visit the gardens when it was sunny. So today I visited the Museum of Aviation at Robins AFB in Warner Robins, GA. Any of you who enjoy military history and aviation should definitely put Warner Robins (approximately 100 miles south of Atlanta) on your to visit list. http://www.museumofaviation.org/home.htm The two military training aircraft (well the ones they used 30 years ago when I was in pilot training smile) I flew were on display. They have lots of aircraft on display outside as well as 3 buildings with ... read more

Hello from Georgia. I finally made it out of service and out of Florida. I spent lot of time in Florida since the first of the year, but didn’t get to do any real sightseeing. Except for the bird photography workshop in the Titusville area I didn’t capture many images. Well today I finally got into the sightseeing and photography mode. I made a visit to Plains, GA and visited the Jimmy Carter National Historic Area. Not only did I get to explore “downtown” Plains, the train depot that was his campaign headquarters, the old Plains High School (which former President Carter attended) which is now a museum, but I also visited his boyhood farm home. In addition, I caught a glimpse of the Carter’s home since 1961 (where they currently live). I saw the Baptist, ... read more

Since most of my family lives in either Finland or San Diego, I'm always buying airline tickets to those destinations. In the previous blog, I wrote about Travelpapa for international fares, well I found a site that has GREAT domestic fares.... www.ifares.com. It was fast, easy, and best of all, CHEAP! I actually have money left over to spend on souveniers! Yay! Hope it helps out with the rest of you travel junkies! San Diego is the place to be! I lived there for many years and I still go back and find new things to do, new sights to see, and always end up meeting new people. Disneyworld, Universal Studios, & Sea World are MUST SEES! I'm leaving to Jamaica with my best friend on Monday! I got a GREAT price on a hotel/cruise via ... read more

Well, this is the first post. I just found this website and thought it would be pretty cool since I'm planning on doing a lot of travelling. So far I have booked a trip to Egypt, where I will visit Cairo, Luxor, Aswan, and Dahab for 14 days from July 27th to August 9th. I hope to arrive in Egypt earlier than July27th so I can check out the western desert and Alexandria, and if I get really lucky a neighboring country as well. Hostels in Egypt are dirt cheap, which is exciting and bothersome at the same time. Oh well, we'll see. In addition to my Egypt trip, I am also planning to go to the Bonnaroo music/arts festival from June 12-15th. Unfortunately, I waited to buy the tickets and now they're $277, not including ... read more

NOTE: I AM CURRENTLY SENDING THIS FROM BANGLADESH IN THE MIDDLE OF FEBRUARY, 2008! I MADE IT HERE A LITTLE OVER A WEEK AGO, SO THE INFO IN THIS EMAIL IS ALREADY WEEKS OLD. BUT, BETTER LATE THAN NEVER, RIGHT? A SELECT FEW OF YOU ALREADY HAVE A VERSION OF THIS.......... The day I left Peru, after 4 months volunteering in Pisco and a bit of traveling afterwards, I spent the day with my friend Santiago in Lima. After a filling and fabulous Chinese dinner at a restaurant overlooking the city at sunset from the 18th floor (used to be the highest building in Lima), he drove me to the airport where he stayed with me until it was assured I could get a seat on the plane. What a gentleman! I was flying on a ... read more

Hello Friends, We are starting to get ready for our African Adventure and doing a test of this travel blog thingy. I will set it up first by listing the cast of characters as well as some initial plotlines and then add an itinerary. Cast of Characters: Dan I have been to South Africa (SA from now on) several times and loved it. This time I am armed with some real camera gear and about 30 lbs less body weight to drag through the bush. I am hoping this combo will result in teriffic photos and less huffing and puffing. I am most looking forward to roaming around Rooi Eils where my Mom has a home on the sea, hitting the wine country in the area, visiting Capetown -- the most beautiful city in the world, ... read more

Every year, more than 400,000 revelers converge on Savannah for our Saint Patrick’s Day parade and celebration - the second largest in the nation. Partygoers dressed in the requisite green attire and “Kiss me, I am Irish” buttons watch the annual parade of Irish folk dancers, marching bands, floats, and city eccentrics then consume large quantities of green beer and libations on River Street while enjoying live music, people watching, and generally making fools of themselves. If you are planning to join in on Savannah’s 2008 celebration, here are a few things you need to know: Parade date changed - Although the Saint Patrick’s Day parade usually takes place on March 17th to coincide with the Feast of St. Patrick, the Catholic Dioceses of Savannah has changed the 2008 parade schedule to Friday March 14th. The ... read more

Hiya everyone! This first blog is really just a test to see if it works. I'm not gone yet. I will be leaving at the crack of dawn tomorrow for LA. I would say I'm about 80% packed. I have everything out. It's just putting it in a suitcase for right now. So I will be using this blog to keep in touch with everyone back home. Instead of me sending a massive e-mail everyday, y'all can check it as often or little as you like. I'm going to try to keep it updated at least once a week. Right now I am very nervous in an excited way. Never been this far from home before for this amount of time. I just need to keep a positive outlook. This trip is going to be an ... read more

"Federal law requires compliance with posted plackards, lighted signs and crew member instructions." So, what's so hard about understanding that? People, please. When you fly, please follow directions. Engage the brain and think! If the captain turns on the "fasten seatbelt" light, he's doing it for a reason (e.g. we would like to leave the airport, we are going to experience some "mild turbulance", the flight attendants are sick and tired of looking at you in the aisles). So the problems today on my flight from PBI (West Palm Beach) to ATL (Atlanta Hartsfield Jackson) on my favorite airline: 1. When you board the aircraft, find your seat. That would be YOUR seat and not the seat you have always dreamed of occupying. We are not flying the colorful planes operated by an airline with the ... read more
