Feeding Program: Our team was able to feed 400 children 1 meal a day for two weeks. As a part of that program we had a chance to pour into their lives and share with them the word of God, basic hygiene and valuable life skills. Distribution: For the month that we were there we distributed 3 tons of rice, a quarter ton of clothes, soap, laundry detergent, mosquito nets, and tooth paste and tooth brushes to 500 of the neediest families in the camp. Medical treatments: People in the camp are in great need of medical assistance. We were able to pay for dentistry and medication for such things as malaria, pneumonia, anemia and worms. We were also able to pay for two surgeries. The first surgery was on a 6 year old girl ... read more

I had never visited a Presidential Library before or even been in a city which was home to one. As a result, since I was in Atlanta I took advantage of a few hours to go tour the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. Known for his human rights work during is presidency and after, there are several displays relating to his work in that area. Great showcase on the history of the Presidency as well as his 4 years. There is also a replica of JC's oval office on display as well as his Nobel Peace Prize. Several personal items of the former President are also on display. When I was there, they also had a wonderful photographic display on Alaska which was a limited time exhibit. Also, had a great downhome meal in the cafe located ... read more

It has been a while since Karen and I have taken a trip together. Wayne needs a break between 38 years of work and retirement. We will be driving to Atlanta, Georgia to visit Karen's Brother and sister and families. We then plan to head for the South Carolina coast. If the weather is warm we will drive North To the North Carolina Outer Islands. If it looks like cool temperatures we may go south to Florida.... read more

For my last summer before a full time career (hopefully!) I will be working at Yellowstone National Park. I will be a Guest Service Agent at a yet to be determined location. I would love to get placed anywhere other than the Roosevelt location simply because I love indoor plumbing. Based on all my research, the vast majority of seasonal employees at YNP love their experiences and aside from the lumbering hand of Xanterra it appears all is well with the employment. I will begin on June 24th and stay until October 6th. I've mapped out a route for the way there that will let me lunch in Nashville, visit the Arch, see the Corn Palace, take a photo op with Mt. Rushmore, and finish a large chunk of my "states I've visited map." It looks ... read more

Day1 - Atlanta Preview The plan for the 1st day was for both Mingji and me to arrive in Atlanta ~2pm, check into the hotel near the airport, and hit up one or two spots in the city before dinner. Well, I guess the plans are made to be broken... The first offset was that it started raining with lightening. The second and a bigger offset was that the hotel shuttle took almost 1hr to get us. We were waiting by the curveside, sending off shuttle after another for all hotels but ours, as the rain started to fall harder and harder. Not off to a good start... Since the rain calmed down and we had a bit of time before dinner, we walked around the Capital & CNN Center. But shortly after, rain started to ... read more

Happy St. Patrick's Day, y'all! Well we are just one day away from our southern most stop on this journey - Clearwater, Florida! The day started with the folks having breakfast at Bob Evan's in Greenwood. Then we just started down the highway, when the "low tire" light came on again! My master stopped and pumped up the tire and off we went. It stayed off until we were about 20 miles from Dalton, Georgia where we are staying tonight! After checking into our Days Inn for the night, my masters went to get it checked. There was an Exxon garage just down the street and a mechanic was on duty. He examined the tire and found a 1" screw in the tire. In 10 minutes, it was patched and the folks then headed to supper ... read more

Hello from The Rally in Perry, GA. The Rally is one of the largest (if not the largest) RV rallies in the country. Today was the first day of the event. I began by getting a “tour” of the Georgia National Fairgrounds thanks to some of the volunteers not understanding the registration process. I followed the directions in my packet and went to the parking area for folks like me who aren’t camping in one of the lots surrounding the fairgrounds. When I asked where registration was, I was told to get back in my Jeep and drive to the other side of the facility to “will call”. I knew that didn’t sound right, but I went anyway. Turns out my instincts were correct - they sent me to the WRONG PLACE. Those folks sent me ... read more
