As most of you know I've been working all summer, so I haven't really had time to dwell on the fact that I'm actually going to be living in another country, speaking a language I've never spoken for more than an hour at a time, and living in some strange person's house for 3 1/2 months. So now it's a few days before I leave, more than a week since I've worked and let me tell you, I've had plenty of time to dwell. Don't get me wrong, I'm super excited to be going, but I'm super nervous about everything, too. I am really going to miss my family. Luckily, this summer I was able to visit with almost all of them. Right after classes got out in May, we went up to Austin for a ... read more

Well, here we go. I’m cheating a little because I’m still in the states, but I’m a little bit more than 24 hours away from boarding a plane headed to Dublin. I figured I’d kick this off while I still had plenty of time and enough sense to introduce this blog business. In the past few days I’ve packed my life for the next 3 months (and some change) into one green suitcase and my L.L. Bean book bag that I’ve used since 8th grade. I’ve also passed through Greenville to drop a few things off in my apartment for the spring. My stop at Furman was like a teaser trailer for what life would have been if I were staying there for the fall term: there were a lot of dark glimpses of people I ... read more

Here we are in Atlanta! It is nice to be back in my hometown any time I get the chace, but I am always amazed at what a global city it has become! The airport is a sea of humanity...good people watching. We are getting ready to depart for San Diego. Our only worry right now is if all of our luggage will fit in the truck of the convertible...hmmm.... ... read more

My husband Rich and I began planning our trip back in February. Fresh from our honeymoon and skipping our annual January vacation we were looking to plan something big. August 25th is our one year wedding anniversary so we started with that date in mind. Today, we have really started getting in to gear with the plans. It goes something like this: Fly from our home in beautiful and historic Savannah, Georiga to San Diego, California. Grab our rental car (a Mustang Convertible) and spend 11 days driving north to San Francisco. We will be treking up coastal Hwy1 to see some of the most scenic views in the country for part of our trip and also exploring San Diego, LA, Big Sur and San Francisco. Departing in 2 days!! ... read more

So it's a little past midnight on Saturday, August 17th and I'm wide awake just thinking about my upcoming departure from the states. My confirmation on nwa.com says 22 days til departure so I will be leaving soon : ( This past Thursday I went to the Japanese Consulate in Buckhead to apply for my visa which I have to pick up tomorrow, and this past Friday was my last day of work at Bank of America in Midtown. It was quite sad to end my year at Bank of America but I will hopefully be back next year upon my return to the states. After work on Friday some of my co-workers went out to Ten Pen Alley in Atlantic Station for some drinks and bowling. I had lots of fun as you can see from ... read more

Well, Dad never thought he would own two places at once. Especially since one is in Florida. Beautiful area, near St. Petersburg. However, he went to vacation in the mountains of Northern Georgia and voila! He bought a little place in Hiawassee. So I have been visiting a few times and plan to go back next month. Hiawassee is a little town near Lake Chatuge. It has beautiful scenery, shopping, boating and all that goes with that; two years ago they added a roped off area and created a sand beach for swimming. It also has a playground area for children, and a small concession stand. Been there several times, very peaceful; though the kids loved when the boats and ski-doos whipped past and sent in little waves. The beach is right across from the State ... read more

Hello world! My flight to London, England leaves this Friday, August 15. I'll be landing in London next weekend. I'm going to visit a few sites before taking the Chunnel to Paris, France on Wednesday, August 20. I'll be there for a few days with a couple friends, then it's off to Siena, Italy. Classes start Monday, August 25. The anxiety is starting to set in. I've been reading and listening to Italian the past few days and brushing up on my French. I'm sure I'll have a few moments of utter confusion, but it's going to be a learning experience! I'm excited and can't wait to get settled in my small apartment in Tuscany! -Chris... read more
