Ok, so it's finally all falling into place. We had movers packing our apartment on Thursday and on Friday they loaded it all up and took it away. We were left with an empty apartment and still no travel plans!! That changed within a few hours, when we found out we did in fact have seats on a flight to Germany. Mittens and Inmate also have their places reserved, so we can breathe easy knowing that we can all get on the same flight. There were hardly any seats left though so the only two together were somewhere in the middle of the plane. Bummer. Could be worse though!! We thought we'd 'rough it' and sleep in our sleeping bags in our empty apartment until it was time to head to Atlanta. In theory, the idea ... read more

So I suppose I’ll carry on to Ravenna in Italy, and bring you up to speed of our group’s time there. We had taken our first train ride of the study abroad program to get to Ravenna, and it had also been our first test to see if each member of the group and baggage would make it into the right train. Oh, and get to the destination if we had to switch trains as well. Our last Venetian morning did indeed dawn bright and early (a likely recurring theme), but the time was to be added on for rolling all suitcases around to the train station. I could see the bus station from my hotel window, but I had to maneuver my suitcase and backpack up and over a few bridges and walkways with the ... read more

Well this might come as a shock to some and not so much of a shock to others, but after 10,000 miles on Isabel of solo travel from Atlanta to Lake Superior to Canada and down the Continental Divide (Epic), the headwaters of 4 major rivers, Mississippi, Missouri, Arkansas, and the Rio Grande and ultimately across the border into Mexico...Classic run on there...After a few days on the Mexican Riveria, I decided that it was time to let this adventure rest for a while. I drove out of Mexico pretty fast and rode all the way back to the Atlanta traveling about 90 mph plus back to my girlfriends apartment in Buckhead. I don't think anyone past me and it is a blast to pass the Harley/Street Bike crowd on a dirt bike!!! Pavement is not ... read more

D'autres photos suivront....... read more

How do you know when it's almost time to leave? When you have already shipped the majority of your clothes and the movers have taken all of your long-term storage items! The cat is running out of places to hide and poor Inmate is down to only one toy! Only his Piggy will keep him company on the long flight :) Thursday and Friday the movers will be here to pack and remove everything else in the apartment for shipment. Unfortunately we still do not have any travel information!! Talk about coming down to the wire!! We're trying to get an extra week or two to allow more flexibility in our flight, but we've hit a dead-end. Our only contact for this type of request is a very unprofessional (and lazy!!) man. Since we haven't ... read more

As soon as we left D.C. and entered Virginia, confederate flags started appearing on cars and homes, indicating we had officially made it into the south. As a "coloured" car, Shazza was a bit concerned about coming down here, after hearing the history about how the civil war was waged primarily over the south's right to use black slave-labour. After some reassurance, we drove west to the Skyline Trail and Blue Ridge Parkway, both renowned as scenic drives to take in "Fall" to see the coloured leaves. Despite the dry season, the stories of amazing colours were true, with a full range from green through to fire-red on both sides of the road. It was surreal driving along in the evening, as the sunset lit the whole forest with a warm glow, despite the chilly air ... read more

So the clock is ticking and we still have a zillion things to do!! Before we can get any travel information booked, Andrea needs: * TB test * medical screening (which occur only once a month!!) * an anti-terrorism brief We'll also need to: * arrange for a car to be shipped (Yup, 'car.' As in singular...only one!) * sell a car! * find out the date, time, and airline for our trip * arrange with the still unknown airline to bring Inmate and Mittens onboard * get both pets bi-lingual health certificates so they clear customs! * get Romas' passport, which the bitchy mail carrier sent back to wherever it originated after he paid extra to have it express mailed!!! * decide what will be brought as luggage, sent as unaccompanied baggage (limit 600 pounds), ... read more

We're back in Columbus after a whirl-wind vacation! We started by flying into Phoenix for a surprise party. We spent about 4 days hanging out and soaking up the sun. We flew home and started our East Coast road trip the very next day!! We made stops in Virginia to meet Romas' niece, Lina. We spent a day with Uncle Bob touring Manhattan and then headed up to Cambridge and Cape Cod. After a couple days relaxing on the beach and a Red Sox game, we started our trip back to Columbus, via Richmond. Romas and I now need a vacation from our vacation!! Instead, we're planning our departure to Schweinfurt, Germany! We still don't have a departure date but as it stands, Romas has to report November 1 so we'll be leaving in about 3 ... read more
