Yep, no jokes, we finally tied the knot! Sorry that we had to keep it a secret but we didn't want certain family members dropping everything & flying over here - we would have loved to have had family & friends here with us, but we felt it wasn't fair to ask at such short notice. We applied for approval to marry in the UK as part of Kurt's visa application & when we returned from our trip home it was here waiting for us. The only catch was that it had to be used within 3mths, and it certainly got us thinking & the chance of a summer wedding in london followed by a croatian honeymoon was too good to pass up. The other deciding factor was that if we didn't do it now, then ... read more

Hey guys, sorry about the long time writing but the internet is not all that readily available in eastern europe (weird huh?) and the places that it is available is really expensive. Actually I was pretty suprised overall about the cost of everything here (except beer - it is more expensive to get a small soft drink than a pint of beer!!). Anyways i had all these blogs written up but since nothing is in english and i can't figure out how to edit photos in other languages i shall just publish these things and will add some photos later ... sorry but otherwise i will forget what i am wanting to write so here goes. well Turkey. ok so flew into Turkey and started my tour with Imaginative Traveller which is a tour group based ... read more

Now, you know how I like to be doing what all the kids are doing. Well, all the kids in London go to Ibiza, so obviously, I had to check it out. It’s not my fault that I somehow ended up attending a bucks weekend (I didn’t know when I booked the tickets - promise). Luckily, I am one of the blokes - and … there was another girl. We both adopted boys names for the weekend, so it was like we weren’t even there! Now, obviously, what goes on tour stays on tour, so I can’t write that much (thank goodness I hear you say). What I can tell you is: • We went to three clubs - Pacha, El Divino and Space - the sound systems are all that - awesome! The clubs are ... read more

When most people think of the Czech Republic they immediately think of the wonderful majestic castles of the capital Prague. However, there is much more to this country then this tourist mad city. Decin is a small town about 30 kilometers from the German border which has the beautiful Labe ( Elbe ) river running through it. The northern area of the Czech Republic is much more rugged than the southern side with grand cliffs and great national parks filled with pristine fresh rivers and tall pine forests. The summer has not been the best I have been told but most of the days that I have spent here have been sunny with fresh cool breezes. The city itself is rather small and can easily be seen in a few hours but if you are ... read more

After several jam-packed days, it was decided that Thursday would be ‘lazy day’. We all felt like doing different things, so after a sleep in, and no rushing about to get ready, mum and I headed off for a spot of shopping at Bloomfield’s. Dad and Izzy went for a bike ride around the Bangor coastline and Kb and Ryan hit the shops in Bangor. It was great to have a day of doing whatever we liked. That evening, Margaret and Dave came around for some home-cooked spag bol, and a few drinks. It was a really interesting evening, as I had a lot of questions from the day before, about Ireland’s history. The oldies were great at filling in all the blanks, from King Billy to the current day situation. Ireland has a very torrid ... read more

Our flight from Toronto to Amsterdam was relatively short, but felt much longer due to the group of 40+ teenagers who felt no need to be quiet or even sit down during the red-eye flight. Luckily, KLM’s entertainment system is fantastic and we were able to catch up on several movies each while trying to get a little sleep. We transferred planes in Amsterdam - nice airport, but since smoking is allowed at their restaurants and bars, our gate area was filled with smoke. Once we landed in Barcelona, we claimed our luggage quickly and found the train station. The train took us directly from the airport to the centre of the city… but of course, it couldn’t be that easy! We were rather directionally challenged and turned ourselves around several times before finding the right ... read more

Another Friday night and Chicagos beckoned! Ian was driving (again) so picked Wayne and me up and we headed to Chelmsford. We started off at Jan's flat for a quick hello before heading out to town. Our first stop was the Hot House, it was def Hot! The place was packed and we struggled to find somewhere to perch. After a shot and some drinks we headed out into the cooler air of the streets. We walked down to Chicagos via the cash machines. Jan and I were disappointed to find our hard earned money was not forthcoming. How annoying, when you know its there but you just cant have it for some reason. Fortunately we both had enough on us (just) for the night and the boys looked after us well (as usual!). We went ... read more

For the geography challenge (which would include my parents) prague is the farthest east we will go on our backpacking trip. Laura's backpacking on a shoestring book told us that the Czech train conductors will often try to intimidate tourist on the train by threatening there to be a problem with the passengers ticket. So we were a bit nervous when we crossed the border and this tall man sternly asked us for our passports. The train ended up being uneventful as we spent most of our time talking to an American couple who were there for a wedding in Cesky Krumlov. This turned out to be a good train cart to sit in because the womens motherly instincts kicked in and she fed our "starving" backpacking bellys trail mix. That afternoon we arrived at our ... read more

Friday 3rd August Day Eighteen, It was a grey start to the day so we decided to move on to Venice. After a short drive complete with spells of rain and a camera crew asking us about our journey we arrived at our peaceful site in Oriago, just outside of Venice. By the time we had pitched up and enjoyed a late lunch it was 3:30. We realised it would be perfect timing to go straight into Venice- cool but sunny and we'd see day, evening and night! We took the bus from outside the site to the central station where we got a waterbus up the Grand Canal. Our first stop took us past the Venice Casino to the Jewish Ghettos. Here people were speaking Hebrew, the houses had many floors with low ceilings from ... read more
