On Friday morning, our last morning in Paris, we took the train to Charles de Gaulle airport for our flight back to London. On arriving back at Luton airport in London, we then made our way back out to Sally's place, where we were staying for our last couple of nights in Europe. The next day we had already planned: we were booked on a guided bus tour that took us out of town for the whole day - first to Salisbury Cathedral, then nearby Stonehenge, and finally to Bath, where we spent some time looking around the ancient Roman baths, as well as having a chance to see the rest of this quaint little town. Sunday morning came along all too quickly, and meant carting our luggage back out to Heathrow airport for the looong ... read more

Week 2 Had a fantastic week with the Catriona, Alastair, Iain, Robbie and Angus just out of Glasgow where we visited Mount Suart House and the Isle of Bute, Charles Renie Macintoshs' Hill House, rode their horses and hung out on their massive sofa. Then spent the weekend with Iain, Robbie and Angus at Tom and Marys' home near Girvin where we helped out at the church fair. Then went to a Stand-up comedy show at the Edinburgh fringe Festival.... read more

Seeing the coastline was the plan today, so after another lazy sleep in (you can’t avoid them here) we set out towards Donaghadee. Mum and dad always sing a song about ‘Kristelle Leigh from Donaghadee, did a pee under the tree, oh goodness me.’ Nice! I think I have one too, but unfortunately I can’t remember it, and nor can Ryan. Oh, yes he can…’Michelle Brown from County Down, went to town with her pants hanging down, did a fart behind a cart, and blew the bloody thing apart.’ Thanks mum - she yelled it out at the top of her lungs - knock yourself out! Anyway, back to the scenic drive. We stopped in at the famous Cockle Row houses, beside the sea in Groomsport. Dad used to come here as a kid for summer ... read more

Just a few quick photos of some little country excursions taken recently. Okay, I admit it. This is the worst summer weather we have ever experienced but we are determined not to let it put us off the UK! Some days it has been beautiful and we have been able to have some great walks. We have done lots of Thames walks, a short walk at Virginia Water Lakes and have also been out to The Cotswolds again. For the record... I'M IN LOVE WITH THE COTSWOLDS. There, it's out in the open now. Just wanted everyone to know.. We did the loop around Bibury / Ablington and only managed to get lost a few times. It was a very nice walk that took us past some of the most beautiful English cottages imaginable and across ... read more

Arrived this morning on time despite the hour + delay. Everyone in chairs slept miserably, shifting from one uncomfortable position to the next. Although people were relieved to arrive as scheduled I was a bit disappointed. Completely unfamiliar with the country, language, exchange rate, location of my arrival in relation to the port I need to be at in a few hours. So I sat at the Port cafe and oriented myself according to logic and observation. The coffee sharpened my thoughts and the brioche gave me the boost to get on and explore. With a canvas military style duffel bag and my backpack both weighing on me I walked at a slow snail pace. Admired and took in the architecture, it is port like, duh, and mixed with old and new buildings. I walked through ... read more

Saturday 4th August Day Nineteen, A nice lazy morning started our Saturday before setting off for Switzerland. We stopped on the way for our last taste of Italian coffee and a good few other times for comfort. There was some bad traffic so despite leaving at 11am we didn't arrive until 9pm! We stopped at a campsite a little further out from Zurich center than planned-tempted by its lights, concerned about arriving too late and preferring a quitter site. We were given a lovely spot by the river lining the site. In the cool mountain air we pitched up quickly and went to the bar's lounge for a quick beer and cards. ... read more

August 4, 2007 Croatia - A Vacation from our Vacation!! After 6 weeks of travel we were getting weary. We needed a vacation from our vacation. Aunt Debbie has a co-worker, Srjan, who owns a charming B&B in Makarska, Croatia on the Dalmatian coast. We were able to find a week that he had free to spend on the beach. It couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. After we left Plitvice National Park we headed for Split, Croatia. It was a short drive and we had gotten into the whole routine…arrive in town…park the car…get a map...orient to the town…find lodging… have fun! Well….that was June and July and now it was August in Europe when pretty much everyone in France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Croatia, Austria, and Great Britain go on vacation. Split ... read more

Oslo had quite a large main station which seemed to be housed in a number of separate wings, one of which included a shopping mall whilst others included cafes and various eateries. There was also a direct connection to the metro which we took to the Bed and Breakfast we were staying at out in the suburbs near a forest. We bought a 24 hour public transport ticket in Oslo which entitled us to free travel on the metro, trams, ferrys and buses for a full 24 hours. It was better than Melbourne's day tickets which expire at 3am the next day. Needless to say we made use of all four public transport modes. After walking around the CBD area on the evening of our arrival we eventually chose a place to eat at which turned ... read more
