So Mojo jojo and I decided that we were gonna take the underground or “The Tube” to go and see the “The Changing of the Guard”!!!! Which was an absolute fantastic idea at the time!!! So we got ready and made our way down to the underground and went all of 2 stops up the line and jumped off. And we headed through James Park and practically did the Queens Walk. The fifth was Kelseys birthday (hooray) and we got loads done. We started the day off with more shopping in Camden Market (apparently we hadnt got sick of it the night before). Then we were off to Picidilly Circus where we met some slavic guys who took our pictures for the day. They also served as fantastic tour guides. They took us to see Trafulgar Square, St. James Park, Buckingham Palace, Westminister Abby, Big Ben and the London Eye all within a matter of hours. As much as we liked our guides there is only so much one can take of stammering through broken english and guys that cannot pronounce their own names. So after a quick ride up the river themes we made up some bad excuse and took off. The night was just as ... read more

Again we stayed all weekend in Nea Styra. We went for a drive through the forest where the fire was. So much was burned. Then we drove to a beautiful beach across the island in the narrow part of it. There were some caves in, Nephew Alex and Nick went for a swim in the cave. I did swim in the entry, but turned around. The color of the water and the scenery was absolutely fantastic. We swam for a while and then took pictures. Nick's mom came with us and watched. We came back home and the next day had a beautiful cod fish with garlic sauce supper along the port and then went home on the very late boat after walking around. What a nice weekend.... read more

Summer has at last arrived. I do not make this statement lightly -- this summer has been very wet and very cold. Up until a week ago, we were still wearing turtlenecks and jumpers. But, this weekend it kicked in. Yesterday was glorious (but got away from me) and so was today -- bright sunshine and 30C/86F. Time to dig out the trainers and the camera and get walking. I knew I wanted to end up at the Tate, but very few of the published walks go down that way as it is in a bit of an ugly part of town. I finally found one that sounded interesting -- it followed the path of the, now underground, Tyburn River. Back in the day, London was a city of rivers flowing south to the Thames. As ... read more

Europe » France » Île-de-France » Paris August 5th 2007

Hello from my first post on the road. The computer I am at does not allow me to upload photos, so I will have to add those later. Paris was a beautiful city. Full of culture and history. I had only planned on staying 2 nights there but decided to stay an additional day. I am stopping at Paris again at the end of my trip and that is a good thing, because I didn't even go in the Lourve the first time. I have heard Paris called the City of Lights in the past. Yeah lots of lights and everything is lit up like Disney World. I however have decided to rename Paris as the City of Stairs. I climbed stairs at Sacre Coure, Arc de Triumphe, the Eiffel Tower, and the metro stations. There ... read more

So, since Lillie had such a long nap yesterday afternoon we were up early with a plan to go to the Louvre. There is no admission charge the first Sunday of the month, and since we just happen to be here the first Sunday of August, I thought we would go early and get in line. Once we arrived, however, I noted that the entire city appeared to have the same plan, as people were queued up for about 3 miles. Scratch that plan. We kept walking on toward the Marais district. It has a Jewish population so there would be alot of shops that are open, plus it's heavily gay which lends a coolness factor to many of the shops that remain open. Aside from all that, the Musee Carnavalet and the Picasso Museum are ... read more

We arrived in spain excited to tour both the countryside and coast! we were lucky enough to coincidentally catch movistar KITESURF PRO PKRA 2007 WORLD TOUR in Tarifa which was an amazing sight ...these men and women are going superspeed, jetting across the water barely missing eachother, then pulling on the kite wires to launch them 30 feet or more into the air while tweaking, twisting, and twirling about for points..neat stuff. From tarifa we drove along the southern coast, stopping to camp along the way and this is when the adventure really began. our little malbec colored car "malby" began to give us attitude and threw a tantrum that began with our electric windows in front not working at any given moment, then the wipers..gone, then the blinkers...gone, finally...we found that the engine would overheat ... read more

4th August 2007 Bonjour Bo & Dud, We’re here then - after all the planning, settled for the time being at a place just to the north of Saumur; called Vernoil. We left Sutton Scarsdale on Sunday 29th and had an excellent journey to Kent where we spent 2 nights at our usual pre-departure site in Appledore. We spent our first evening watching hot air balloons in the distance and a barn owl patrolling the field in front of us looking for his dinner. Monday started as an ‘admin’ day, phone calls to make and emails to send off. Howard was delighted when he spoke to Vodaphone, we now have 200 mb per month, which is double what we initially expected. Let’s just hope it all works well when we are over ‘the pond’. It was ... read more
