Not quite sure how things are in news dept as blog seems to have lost 5 entries!!Suffice it to say I'll start on the weekend before Sam's arrival and hope that there is not too much repetition! My warwound on the shin(ex. flatbacks) was really aching so on the 20th I decided to stay at hope for RandR so locked the car Fri night and did not go back to it till Sun am when I decided to check on my e-mails in Dobrich. Set off and because Dobrich rd is reasonable decided to play CD. - surprise no CD player only wires!! On parking in Dob and checking doors locked found the passenger lock floating free! no prizes for guessing how they got in. Next day went to Kapital to get help to make a statement ... read more

apparently the travelblog server crashed and all of my previous entries were lost - if anyone happened to save any, please email them to me and i'll repost. (mom and sue, could you please copy and paste these into word so i have a backup copy?) i'm currently in munich, eating lots of cheese and nutella, so much for the 6 pack happening in europe, it'll have to wait until africa. ....leave barcelona for basque country, high pyrenees. camp in heusca spain for the night, rent a mercedes benz (yes a mercedes, it was the cheapest car) buy lots of heavy food (we have a car!). drive into the pyrenees, lots of sheep, cows with huge bells, pigs in the road, cheese for sale. castles, waterfalls, forests, tiny switchback roads, villages with less than ten houses. ... read more

This is the blog entry we wrote a few days ago. Fortunately, we had saved this as a draft email first, and so did not lose this one along with everything else we wrote during the big Travelblog.org meltdown. We are still in the process of finding a better blogging site, but in the meantime, here is the entry on Valencia. Enjoy... slow boat to Spain The 9-hour boat ride turned out to be better than we had expected. Instead of the endless frothy waves of seasickness we had expected (which is what we got in Greece), the Palma-Valencia ferry was nice and slow, and very steady. Overpriced salty Spanish sandwiches aside, the trip was actually quite enjoyable, with Sandra and I able to catch som Z's, do a few crosswords, and enjoy the vast expanse ... read more

Argh! The server crashed, and I lost my last two entries. Serves me right for holding them until I got a chance to do photos. This is only a short note, because I haven't written for ages. I've been in Hungary, heading not just to Budapest, but also Eger with it's famous wines, and Szentendre, a city up the Danube. Next was the ukraine, and this was an experience I am unlikely to forget. Even doing nothing was tiring, as you had to still translate everything in your head, back i°nto latin letters. Then decide if you could or couldn't read it. After that Slovakia was a dream, I could almost converse with people. Poland was fun, got to meet a lot of Polish people, and eat a lot of polish food. Helsinki was wet and ... read more

Hey everyone, It has been quite an exciting few days for us here in Europe, but unfortunately it has also been a frustrating few days out in cyberspace. Many of you have let us know that you could no longer access the travelblog.org site to read our blog. In fact, travelblog.org itself was down from August 1-5. It's just come up today, and after reading the tech support forum, I can now tell you what has happened. Unfortunately, the story ain't pretty So apparently on the 1st, the one single (not backed-up) server that hosts the entire travelblog site got hit by a Denial-of-Service attack. The owner/admin of travelblog, in a state of panic, attempted to restart the mysql database. Unfortunately, he's not very good at mysql, used the wrong command and wiped out thousands of ... read more

You may have noticed but the blog has been down recently and we just got access this morning. It is 7:43 am in Zurich and we have a few minutes before hitting the road towards Grindewald and Lauterbrunnen so here is a quick play by play of what we've been up to the last few days. Wednesday - We visited Worms where Martin Luther was called on to recant his views that started the Protestant Reformation. We saw the Holy Trinity Reformation Memorial Church which was very modern but a neat little place. We headed on to Rothenburg which is a medieval village with cobbelstone streets and the whole bit. We spent the evening there in a gasthaus hotel and took a sunset stroll along the stone wall that surrounds the village. Thursday - This was ... read more

Geo: 47.4987, 18.7475Hey there,Well we have been truckin' around Budapest. It is hot here! Only in the 80s technically but friggin' hot when you are in the sun. The first night was pretty low key. We walked down to the Chain Bridge which they close to traffic on the weekends in the summer. Booths set up selling all kinds of stuff. They are very big into wood. They have these giant pencils everywhere.... I wanted to buy one for Steve #2 but Steve #1 wouldn't let me. We ate at Menza (I think it means cafeteria). All decked out in 70s decor. Quite cool. The food was ok, we sat outside which was nice. They give you bright orange blankets if you get cold. Check out www.menza.co.hu for more info. Yesterday we went to St. Stephen's ... read more
