I am a 60 year old adventurer(mum and grandmum) and I am about to begin the next stage of a chequered life.I have sold my house in N.Ireland to emigrate to Bulgaria. I will be traveling across Europe visiting family and friends on the way in a campervan - height of luxury as I have always camped under canvass previously.Knowing no Bulgarian and travelling on a shoestring I have already had many adventures(laced with problems)last October my 1st visit ever, but was so taken with the country and people I would have liked just to have stayed put -however yet again money reared it's ugly head so I had to come back to sell up.I have 4 grown-up kids none of whom were keen to go to the 'arse end of nowhere' so I'm off on my own again with just my large orchid collection for company!!I am looking forward to meeting up with both bulgarian and expat friends made in October 2006.I intend to buy 2 houses for myself and hopefully a further 4 for investment/rental.My 2 main bases will be in the mountainous country close to Sofia and on the East around/between Dobrich and Varna.Once settled I hope to receive friends and family and also return on holiday myself to friends and family in UK 2 or 3 times a year.I already have many insights to offer about life/transport etc in Bulgaria and hope anything I glean could be of use to other travellers.

Cleaning large carpets
It was nice to have a use for my large terrace other than sunbathing.Georgie and Meta make full use to get their carpets cleaned after the invasion of the grandchildren was over
I've entitled this blog waiting as it seems to sum up my life currently. Firstly I am waiting for my funds in the UK to reach my bank a/c here so that i can 1)Pay for my extensive double glazing to make life so much warmer and cheaper. 2)The same funds will provide for jeep insurance and winter tyres as necessary - need both before travelling to Uk on 28th November. 3) For Stan to provide his billhead for the repairs to Yunets and independant assessment that they have been completedThen the insurance money should come. 4)For Monday when I will [View Full Entry]

home sweet home Europe » Bulgaria » East » Boyana
Much has happened since my last entry.Kids visit went very well, enabling me to be a tourist again and also passenger in my own car most of the time. Thanks Stu. Dog had a type of mildly virulent mange and has progressed well after a series of vet visits and medication.travelling to there in car was messy BUT EVENTUALLY WITH PERSEVERANCE WE MANAGED A TRIP TO kAMCHIA,YUNETS AND BOYANA IN ONE DAY with only dribble to contend with! Will aim to take her on small' pleasant' runs in the future from time to time to keep conditioning going whilst maintaining her semi-wild status. Onwards and upwards Europe » Bulgaria » East » Varna
At least I think it should be upwards.Looking forward to family visit - not long now and have devised possible excursions to use time wisely.Travelling will have to be early am or later evening as in between is a nightmare with our weather. We are in the process of laying down plum Rakia for winter cold offsetting! Never fear there will be some for Belfast at Xmas and Cornwall in June!! Even we can't drink 50L of plum and of course grape to follow.Gillian and Peter got good weather with some nightime storms and we have had the odd one since [View Full Entry]

Brief report Europe » Bulgaria » East » Varna
So after a uneventful(barring thunderstorms) trip back I'm now in the middle of sorting out finances, visiting family, cars and properties - ie nothing changes. However have managed 2 trips to Varna beach, once to meet pete and family and once (yesterday ) with G for company. Just as well as needed him to push start the white car(john's). Now killing time whilst key and starting lock are sorted. At least it's not as hot.Yesterday it was 34C on beach(fortunately with light wind to help cooling. )In an hour's time I'm meeting up with an old friend who waitressed in the restaurant [View Full Entry]

Well not only did the car give no trouble I got to cornwall in double quick time(14 hours early).Despite the diversion(Romania would you believe) which having sent you on they conveniently decided not to issue further signs and took me 2 hours with the aid of my map to complete, I had managed to bypass the scene of all my troubles last year! Not! After a lengthier road session I ended up at the desired town and confidently proceeded on my way.First feelings of discomfort came with a road stop cafe by an electronic warning statement, that looked exactly the same as where [View Full Entry]

ready for off Europe » Bulgaria » East » Varna
Well not quite but working up to settling all outstanding debts and problems so i hope to have a reasonably OK trip to Cornwall.Car had a full service and now only requires 3 tyres(waiting till found).Insurance payment for outside Bulg( relay etc insur for 30 days) to be paid next.Rental continues smoothly, tho at the mild nuisance value of watching Man U games- yugh! Small price to pay for money which as expected more than covers elect and water at both properties.Elect is at last up to date and hopefully will be easier to cope with. They have started to read it each [View Full Entry]

Well the snow was gone by 4 days that time and I was aware that J+J were arriving on 22nd Feb and would be dissapointed that they had no snow. Again I found myself waiting for the next pension payment, as on top of the expenses I alsom had got 50Lv for G+M's electricity and 140 Lv for mine. However when i went [View Full Entry]
