Essex derives from 'East Seaxe' so, land of the East Saxons. The County of Essex - one of the 'Home Counties' - falls in the East Anglian region of England. It has an extensive coastline with the usual maritime features, and ranges from traditional small villages in the north to London suburbs in the south.
