English: The phony start to my journey round the world with me making a quick X-mas detour via Finland to celebrate X-mas. Massive fog chaos at Heathrow though. Also featuring a very interesting bus ride from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 to catch our flight to Helisnki.Matkani valestartti alkoi matkalla Lontoosta Helsinkiin jossa vietin joulun. Lontoossa oli sumu joka on aiheuttanut aikamoisen kaaoksen Heathrown lentokentällä, mielenkiintoisesti meillä oli bussimatka Terminaali ykkösestä terminaali neloseen.... read more

Good afternoon, This travelling lark is dead easy. We were picked up in an executive limo (VW golf) from our doorstep and transported over 220 miles down South to a place called Locks Heath. Seems interesting enough and the natives seem reasonably friendly. We are staying with a local tribe so we have free accomodation and it seems ok, although they could perhaps turn the heating up a little. The head of the local tribe is a judge and works in a local courthouse and his wife is fond of red wine and various other forms of alcohol. In that sense, it seems like home for Mrs Deane. They have two kids, one called Student and one called Tall Liz. We'll probably stay for a few days before moving on for Christmas elsewhere. One thing though, ... read more

Escape Nightclub (a newish one near Colchester - replacing what was Kings), was our venue of choice for Wednesday night. I headed off early to Katherine’s house and had a really good chat, she did my make up (she likes that kind of thing!) and then we left to go to Escape. It was freezing (literally!) outside black ice in the car park and everything. The queue wasn’t horrendous and we got in easily (not asked for id phew- it was over 25’s night). The club has 2 bars and a dance floor. There are what look like igloos/padded cells on the side to sit in and cage things with poles in! The first stop was the loo - which was weird. The sinks had a giant curvy sofa next to them with a pole in ... read more

First of all we would like to thank all the GCA crew for the fantastic Basket of Goodies :-) and especially Ron who we hope is feeling better and has a speedy recovery. Well its the day before we fly, the news is full of fog stories and we are a tad concerned about our flight. We keep trying to be on the positive side but both of us still worry....like we do!! You never know you may get a blog from us on Christmas Day and we will still be at Heathrow!!!! If the worst comes to the worst and we are delayed we at least have a 10 hour stop over in Bangkok to play with and hopefully Alex, our wonderful travel consultant will be able make sure we still arrive on time :-) ... read more

Back at home now, and have read the "safety for travellers book" mum got me. Related the chapter on deadly australian box jellyfish to said mum, who suggested i went to somewhere sensible like france for a month. Things i've done 1) Got a passport yesterday (emergency one as mine wasn't valid and i hadn't checked) 2) Got a visa for Australia (didn't know I needed one until yesterday, got one this morning) 3) Got all my jabs and medicines. Just. 4) Transferred some money to useful currencies. don't know what they use in South America though. may buy a goat at the airport for trading purposes. 5) Booked somewhere to stay in Australia (My hotel). Am no longer sleeping rough I don't think. Haven't got anything confirmed by them though and was quite a suspect ... read more

We finally arrived at the airport this afternoon after almost a 4 hour journey :-( Many thanks to Ruth and the girls for taking us and hope that you have a better journey home. The Range Rover's Sat Nav just kept pointing out more and more accidents but the heated seats made life slightly more comfortable! When we finally arrived at the hotel we were accosted by the BBC wanting to know our travel woes but when they found out we were travelling tomorrow to Bangkok they were not interested!! ITV camera crews are camped out in the hotel car park and we just watched the 6 o/clock news bulletin live from Heathrow out of our room window. CNN are here as well and Simon is getting aggrivated by the annoying American woman with the mobile ... read more
