The taxi ride?? PHEW!!!! We had booked the taxi bus for 8am, at 8.15 Andy asks when it's coming the response to this was 'later'. Andy: 'when later?', 'later'. Luckily, for them, it turned up a few minutes later and we still had half a bus to pick up. We had heard about bad drivers throughout Asia and how they put their faith in Buddha, but this ride took the micky! The driver even went to the shop, but to disguise this he shouts 'airport', but there was obviously no one waiting and we were already late! So after a hair raising drive through the hectic streets of Bangkok (melissa was saying her prayers) we arrived safe and sound at the airport, still shaking, for our penultimate flight to Hong Kong. The flight took just under ... read more

Hello people, its us again, yapping on about what we have been doing whilst you poor people have been hard at work!!!!! WE KNOW WE WILL BE DOING THE SAME IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS, after we find a job!! So we are still good, still having a great time. After our relaxing time on Koh Samet we got back to Bangkok in the afternoon and after arriving at the bus station we found ourselves a really friendly guesthouse called 'The four son's'. But not until we negotiated a long walk on the island, a fishing boat to the mainland, a 4 hour bus ride, a couple of skytrains followed by a ferry up the river to the backpackers area of Bangkok. Our final visit to the very likeable city of Bangkok consisted of a trip ... read more

So what did we do on this beautiful island? Not much is the answer. Our days consisted of lying on the soft white sand everyday, sometimes having lunch. Going back to our room to get ready for the evening and then going out for dinner, playing cards and watching the movies in the restaurants. We topped up our tans for our arrival back to sunny England. The island was quite stunning, white sand, warm water and we were lucky enough to have some truly great weather. On the island there was a mixture of backpackers, local and international holiday makers and quite a lot of pretty Thai women with big fat western men!!!! Its so crazy to see. Oh and there was also quite a large number of chick boys, probably more chick than boy as ... read more

So the rest of our time in Chiang Mai was a bit of a nothing really. We spent most of the days wandering the streets in the boiling hot sun, finding this much hyped city to be a little on the overated side. We looked at the treks to the hill tribes and rafting and stuff, but we decided that we had seen villages and hill tribes for real when we drove through the villages in Laos and visited an Hmong village. The only difference would have been they would be wearing traditional clothes and it would have been mega touristy. We also looked at Andy going on a fishing trip whilst I went to Thai classical dance classes, but that was the day Andy was taken ill. He thinks he ate something dodgy as his ... read more

We got picked up this morning for our trip to the elephant conservation centre which is way outside of town. The centre is run by a lady Thai called Lek, apparently she has been voted one of the most influencial woman in Thailand by some voting poll or other. It sounds like she has been rescuing elephants from abusive situations since forever. We found out that there are now 30 elephants at the park after 1 died of old age last night. The atmosphere at the centre was quite subdued and not just with the humans. The dead elephants long term friend was calling out and pining for her old elephant friend, it was really sad to see, apperently she had stayed at her side for weeks right up to the last few moments before she ... read more

So after a long bus ride, with only 2, 5 minute stops! we arrived in Chiang Mai. We got a tuk tuk just as it started to chuck it down. We checked out 2 guest houses and got booked in a nice one with friendly staff, called Bow Chiang Mai. After settling in we ventured out for some dinner as we were starving! We stayed out for a while, Andy rung home and then it was bed time. The next day we were up reasonably early, which makes a change, and after breakfast we set to walking the streets to check out our new destination. Chiang Mai is surrounded by a moat and the remains of a wall. So first off we walked in a square and to a non-profit shop selling crafts from the nearby ... read more

Our first South East Asian train was late!!! At 1:20 pm we were on our way to a town called Pak Chong, which is close to the khao Yai national park. The train journey was really nice if not long and uncomfortable, as this wasn't your usual intercity speed train. No this one had great big wooden seats. What it did have though was big slide down windows that gave us some much needed breeze as it was a hot day outside. The scenery as we started to arrive in Pak Chong was really nice too, with rolling hills, temples and statues of Buddha in the distance. On the train there was a constant stream of people walking up and down the aisles selling everything from drinks, crisps to dried out fish and rice wrapped in ... read more

AYUTHAYA. Where is it? 3 hours north of Bangkok. What did we do in Bangkok? Let me tell you. We had a nice dip in our rooftop pool, after switching to a cheaper room. This hotel, THE RAMBUTTRI VILLAGE INN, the staff are SO RUDE and I, Andy told the woman so, shame she didn't understand me!! We got a ferry down the river, which we had done before and is a nice way to get to the bottom of the city, then got the skytrain to Siam square, a shoppers paradise. We had a walk around the markets, where I think I just escaped being robbed?? As Melissa was unhappily haggling for a couple of genuine fake sports vests, I stood to one side on a raised step. I Immediatley thought I was in a ... read more
