Matthew Lees

I have only been outside Europe once. I can barely get through a day without forgetting at least two or three important things. I have no idea what I'm doing and may not have been properly immunised.

Thai-break

Right- here we go again. Flew to Bangkok, didn't sleep at all. Arrived at Bangkok where it was very very hot. Hotter than i initially expected Got potentially death-taxi which drove into the centre of town through the tiniest backstreets he could find before stopping outside a little market to ask for directions. went down some more random tiny streets before bumping into the hostel. turns out it was really nice. Dumped the bag, had a few beers and a fish curry for about two pounds, and went straight to sleep. exciting stuff. next day involved going to town on the [View Full Entry]

Eventually arrived back in Rio and got a cab back to the Wave hostel. Only for two nights so didn’t really mind where. Got a shower and got changed before meeting the girls for a late dinner in a restaurant where amusingly there was a mental woman being arrested for nicking someones handbag. Very entertaining. Had a lovely long lie-in the next morning, and headed to the beach for some last minute rays. Weather wasn’t that great though, so ended up coming back to do some shopping, buying a few pairs of havaiianas for my lucky relatives, as well as a [View Full Entry]

Seems like a while since i did one of these, however here goes... Ended up heading to an island down south to learn some scuba-skills, which involved (or so we thought) getting on a bus outside our hostel, and everything beign sorted out for us. Not the case when the entirely useless man working in the hostel doens't actually book anything, and keeps telling you it will all be fine. Well, daniel, it won't be. idiot. Turns out that the bus we'd smugly been telling a couple of swedes that we were going to get came and picked them up, but [View Full Entry]

Hola... First off, weather has been shite. Got here on tuesday after monster journey that started in Quito (after watching spiderman 3, not very good), and just got taxi straight to airport around 6, flew at 9 to Lima, then time went a bit funny and after a 4 hour flight to Sao Paulo, it was about 8am, so went forward 3 hours, which meant i had a very short nights sleep. bad. was already tired as had had shite nights sleep the night before. Once id arrived in Sao Paulo airport, i then had to use my newfound (or indeed [View Full Entry]

Hello. First, photos that accompany this are at Equadorphotos Have been nowhere near internet this week, this is the first computer ive seen since I left Quito! The bus to Latacuñga was uneventful(mostly because of the boatload of immodium i shovelled down before we set off, but got to town fine early enough and went for good pizza in town, before being in bed very very early, to compensate for being mildly silly and naughty the night before. Next morning was a bus ride to a place called Z [View Full Entry]

Hello Last night out with the group was really good fun, Corina the witch was on superb form dancing with Carlos the hamster of a tour guide and there was some very enthusiastic karaoke singing and shape throwing generally (my first peruvian worm). Next morning was interesting, and didnt really happen for me, until check out at 1pm and the official end of the tour. Checked in to a hostel in town called the flying dog with colin and the three girls, then went to get some food, before retiring to bed to lounge and read. The next few days were [View Full Entry]

Word to the herd. Bus journey was rubbush, and was only made passable due to the three prescription sleeping tablets i knocked back. Win. Arrived in Nascar in remarkably bad mood not aided by Corina the moaning german moaning about everything. this was annoying. What wasnt annoying was it being my turn to have a double room in the hotel to myself, and therefore being able to get a few hours sleep before breakfast without falling out of the stupid midget sized peruvian beds. After breakfast headed to the aeroport to have a flight over the world (but not me) famous [View Full Entry]

Got to Arequipa, had time to do some light internetting and have a lie down after a cheeky vom (not hungover i dont think, just generally knackered and dodgy food), followed by going into town for meal cooked in traditional incan way and served in hot stones (by traditional incan way i think they meant ¨with loads of salt¨. I ate a guinea pig. Served like it had just been scraped off a car wheel. complete with legs, paws, head, teeth etc. odd. And overpriced... anyway, main square was quite cool, but after dinner was straight to bed, up at 7 [View Full Entry]

Incaredible.

South America » Peru » Cusco » Inca Trail
Hello everybody, probably not a very exciting report (I know, hard to imagine) as we´ve just got back from Machupicchu, which as it turns out is pretty cool. Quite big as well, and a complete pain in the arse to get to. Which explains why it was only found about a hundred years or so ago. Anyway Think i didnt finish the last entry on Ollaytentambo (this is not how you spell it), which was an incan site in the sacred valley. Had a look around there for a bit with Jeremy (our guide for the Inca trail as well [View Full Entry]
