I'm sorry I haven't updated in quite a while. I have been very very busy, and am making time at 12 am on a Wednesday morning to write the happenings of my last week. Now that I have made this blog a semi-world wide phenomenon (taste the sarcasm) I can't quit. Not that this is in anyway a burden, it just sucks when I don't have time and then have lots to catch up on. I hope that everyone hasn't given up on me. If it is annoying to keep referring back to this page to see if I have updated, try subscribing. I know that it will then send you an email every time I post a new entry. But now..... Where did I leave off? Thursday night? Thursday night some of us went out ... read more

So I've been bad and haven't updated this is WAY TOO LONG!! I've been so busy being a tourist and trying to see everything possible and then school started and AHH! So, I'm going to update it a tad bit today and then way more on Monday when I come back from IRELAND:)!! I'm going to Dublin today for the weekend until Monday and I'm very excited to see the Irish countryside and castles and try the "black stuff" for free! Before we leave on our plane, we're off to the Palace of Westminster for a guided tour of Parliament which of course will include good 'ole Big Ben! Did you know that Big Ben is the name of the bell in the clock tower and not the actual clock? Just a little bit of London ... read more

June and July provided good business for the Roma B & B here in London. We were fully booked and a few times double booked! Kate's parents were the first to arrive. They had already traveled though the west coast of America, Alaska and Canada so they needed a few rest days at first. Then we were able to take some time off work to travel with them. We went to the Charlston Manor Festival where we saw Kate's cousin Richard play the violin in a Friday night concert. It was beautiful, the concert was in a barn on the grounds of the manor. It was an intimate concert but of course it was extra special because of Richard. Richard had the next morning free to spend with us so we went for a drive along ... read more

Orientation has been this week and we finally registered for classes today. I have International Business Strategy, Organizational Behavior, Principles of Marketing, European Studies and Historic London. All I'm really looking forward to is Historic London - weekly field trips to all the major sites in London. I went to Hyde Park today which is the Central Park of London. Honestly, I was a little disappointed. There were gardens and fountains and statues but it didn't really do anything for me. Everything was man-made and the history behind the statues weren't always provided. It was beautiful but nothing was "real." I think I'm a mountain girl for life. I am going back though to see the Peter Pan statue and the memorial to Princess Di. We took a walk around the city from Hyde Park all ... read more

Tonight the university hosted a "Wine and Cheese Reception" for the study abroad students. I arrived with my friends (Natalie and Kate) fashionably late and by then there was very little food and a lot of wine! We met another group of American girls from Denver, Colorado and pretty much finished the remaining wine bottles. The study abroad officers gave us several questionable looks. The reception was supposed to be an opportunity to meet other students in the program, preferably from other countries. But I think everyone is still adjusting to being in another country and found other students from the same. Natalie, Kate and I spent a while scoping the room for either hot foreign men or Americans. Sadly, the Americans were easier to find. Hopefully that will change. The Denver girls were great though. ... read more

I finally have the internet set up! Now prepare yourself for a very long entry. Chapter 1: The Flight to London and the Struggle to Reach the Hostel I met Brian (a guy from Marquette) at O'Hare Wednesday afternoon. Before that, it took 3 airport employees to point me in the right direction. I swear I walked a mile from the terminal to the baggage claim. Our flight went well for the most part. We didn't get much sleep but the plane wasn't full so we each had a row to ourselves. After landing in Heathrow we took the Heathrow Connect to Paddington Station. This is where things turned bad. Brian and I spent about 10 minutes looking of the Tube map and finding the way we needed to go. Even though Paddington is a very ... read more

Sorry for not writing sooner. I'm not having the best of luck (with many things) and my current situation is not having internet (I'm on a friend's computer). It seems that I wrote down the wrong # on a sheet for City U and won't have internet until tomorrow(ish). Last night I bought 30 minutes of internet connection at the hostel and wrote a new blog entry for 29 minutes and it didn't save! So I'll save the LONG story for another entry. Believe me, it's LONG! I don't start orientation until Tuesday so I'll have plenty of time to write soon. Cheerio mates!... read more

I AM IN LONDON!!! I cannot believe that it is actually true, all of us keep saying that it feels like a vacation and that we're going to leave the beautiful city of London, but amazingly it is true and I'm here until December!! I thought that doing a blog would be a fun way to communicate with some awesome Americans:) Saturday was one of the craziest days ever, starting with Hurricane Hannah trying to mess up our flight. Everyone was nervous that our flight would be delayed or even worse canceled due to the torrential downpour and gusty winds occurring! We thought we weren't delayed but we ended up waiting an hour extra just sitting on the runway in the plane. Then because of all the delayed traffic from America coming into London, we were ... read more

Holiday is over - we're back in a rainy and grey London again. And believe it or not, I have a wonderful tan all over! Let's hope it lasts for a while. Sardinia with its clear blue sea and lovely weather already seems far away and almost surreal, but we have a fridge full of sheep's cheese and bottarga to remind us at dinner time. Enrico is depressed, he won't leave the house and in fact he won't even get out of his pyjamas unless I REALLY insist. But I am good at insisting, so right now he is sitting at the computer behind me at the internet cafe on Seven Sisters Road. Now it's time for job hunting, so I've spent most of today on Regent Street shopping for interview clothes. Grown-up trousers, blouses, a ... read more

After 6 months in Latin America I was sad to leave its amazing sights and culture. It would have been much harder if I knew I wasn’t going to return before this trip is over. I flew from Peru to a changeover stop at Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Our pre-dawn flight path took was over the Florida Keys, where the dotted lights below indicated the line of small islands and connecting bridges Shazza and I had driven over 9 months earlier. On landing, the culture shock of being back in the USA was startling. Apart from the outspoken and pushy people at the airport, I was once again selected for a “random” search and interrogation, beginning with the allegation that I had started another, rogue line-up for the x-ray machine. NYC From Florida, I took another flight ... read more
