Hello, It has been a while since we have blogged so this one goes back to June in the middle of the summer (which seems such a long time ago now). We made the journey for our first summer music festival and what better than braving the elements in the lush fields at Glastonbury. We started off on the Wednesday for the 3 day music festival in order to get a spot in the fields to camp. The journey that was meant to be 3 hours started off okay with the great news that Kate was accepted for a new job that she had applied for. The job is a full time position at the Haringey Integrated Community Therapy Team. From there she has also successfully been accepted to do her masters degree which is for ... read more
The Roma B & B has been open for business with a busy spring season. Spring certainly arrived fast in London and we took advantage of the lovely weather and did lots of walks on the weekends. The daffodils in Green Park were particularly stunning as they carved out beautiful garden beds, and we were not the only one's out enjoying the spring time, everyone was having picnics, walking their dogs and eating ice creams in the sunshine. Kate's best friend Marianne came to stay in March which was not only a fun time, but it was also quite a reunion for them both as they had not seen each other since Mari was Kate's bridesmaid at our wedding. So almost 2 years, which was incredible as before that they had always seen each other every ... read more
The Roma Christmas was exciting again this year. The family congregations were spread over a few days and we indulged in more turkey, pudding and yummy goodies than required. We had Christmas day in London and then another gathering in Birmingham on Boxing Day. We have never indulged in so much kareoke in my life than in that one night alone! But it was fun for the kids and the 'grown ups' all singing along together, letting our hair down and dancing the night away. The occasional song brought a tear to the eye (not sure if it was the choice of song or the singing), and of course it was just nice to be able to be away from London and spend time with the family. But after Birmingham our holiday started. We'd hired a ... read more
So August was a nice and relaxing month where the B&B was closed which meant we had some time to ourselves. We took advantage of this and managed to fit in a few nice days out. We thought we'd head back to Windsor to go to Legoland. It was a fun day, although we didn't expect it to be quite so children focused. We almost hired a buggy to push around just to fit in! But there were some great rides, probably the water rides were the most memorable. But the highlight was definitely the lego exhibitions with famous buildings from around the world on show. Nothing from Australia sorry, but the England (particularly London) contingent was amazing with Big Ben and the Houses of parliament, Tower Bridge, the gerkin, Buckingham palace, Piccadilly circus complete with ... read more
June and July provided good business for the Roma B & B here in London. We were fully booked and a few times double booked! Kate's parents were the first to arrive. They had already traveled though the west coast of America, Alaska and Canada so they needed a few rest days at first. Then we were able to take some time off work to travel with them. We went to the Charlston Manor Festival where we saw Kate's cousin Richard play the violin in a Friday night concert. It was beautiful, the concert was in a barn on the grounds of the manor. It was an intimate concert but of course it was extra special because of Richard. Richard had the next morning free to spend with us so we went for a drive along ... read more
Sorry it has been a while since we have been in touch but as usual the schedule has been hectic and a lot has been happening. So this is going to be a highlights special! After our trip to Stockholm we had the pleasure of Croft and Abi visiting and telling us all about the news from home. It was great to have them stay, we had a chilled out day in Camden - nothing like an apple Shish, we had some time just wandering through London central, and Mark was able to take a little time off and go to Brighton with them. On their last weekend they went to Paris while we had planned to visit Kate’s friend Caroline in Brussels. Unfortunately Mark was held up at work on the Friday afternoon so despite ... read more
It has been the most unbelievable start to the year - nothing like normal life or living! Christmas Roma style in London was a blast! There was so much food, Wii competitions, and we have never seen so many presents in all our days. But it was honestly just so much fun. We spent Christmas day at Mark's cousins, Tony and Lisa's house and they put on the full Roast with all the trimmings. And it actually felt like a proper Christmas. Now don't get me wrong, Christmas at home is great, but with the cold weather outside and the ice on the cars, it felt like we were experiencing the real thing. There was no snow and it rained most of the day, but it's true that after a couple of hours there was a ... read more
It was very unfortunate that we had to leave you all with such bad news, but for those of you who haven't heard, Kate made it home in time to say goodbye to her Grandma and she was able to be at home and celebrate her Grandma's life with her family. She was also able to catch up with some good friends and rekindle her Adelaide spirit! While she was away Mark went and watched the Australian Football team play in Fulham - yep nice and close to home. You can imagine that Mark had a slightly croaky voice the next day from all the Harry Kewell chanting! But since we're now well and truly into winter we have been enjoying strolling the frosty streets, looking at all the wonderful Christmas lights and decorations that have ... read more
There were many reasons for us moving to live here in London - travelling, international work experience, building our indepenence, providing accommodation for travelling friends... but another important reason was for us to be able to build relationships with our families who are in Europe. And this has been the pinnacle of our time recently. On Saturday 6th October we rose at a dreadful 2am to be on the night bus at 3am to get to Stansted airport at 5am for our 7am flight to Eindhoven in Holland to arrive at 9am local time and to be greated by Kate's second cousin Ingrid. Wow what a start to a very emotional weekend. The reason for our trip was to attend an annual family reunion. As some of you who read our blog know, Kate's mum's family ... read more
Well September certainly has been a month to remember! I'm not sure whether it was because we were away from home, or because we are newly married, or just a series of amazing coincidences, or just because... but I was spoilt rotten for my Birthday! When we were camping (as we mentioned in our last blog), Lisa organised a Birthday cake for me, and in the fresh air of the countryside I got to blow out my first overseas birthday candles. A very sweet gesture! So we arrived home on the Sunday, it was work as usual on the Monday and Tuesday it was my day, so we had organised to take the day off work! After phonecalls home we went to meet Tania and Miles who had arrived in London the day before. I was ... read more
