Well most everyone has left London by now with the exception of a couple Marquette girls. It was strange saying goodbye to my floor mates, knowing that I probably won’t ever see them again. It’s kind of like summer camp in that way except it lasted three months. My dorm feels a bit like The Shining now. But I have had this week and the rest of it to finish my exploration of London. I spent all of Monday hiking around the city. I went to the Cabinet War Rooms and the adjacent Winston Churchill Museum in the morning. It’s pretty amazing. When the war ended, the rooms were locked up and nearly everything in the museum is exactly as it was on August 16, 1945. The rooms and living quarters of Churchill and his staff ... read more

Hi Everyone, I know that I have been a terrible correspondent lately! I am very sorry! But I wanted to give you a quick overview of my adventures from where I left off, which was the Paris Airport, check in completely down. I stood in line for two hours, at least, waiting for someone to tell us what was going on. As usual, that didn't happen. I made several friends, none from the US and all with dual citizenship, which by the way I am still baffled by. Anyway, we make it onto our flight, and flying into London Luton about 2 hours late. Poor Abigail had to wait around for me all night. After one train ride, we were reunited! It's crazy seeing your friends in new places! Abby brought along two of her friends, ... read more

It's 3:50pm London time now, so I haven't gone out to celebrate yet, but I want to write a mass thank you to everyone who has sent birthday emails (even if you were pressured by my mom). I'm going out with friends tonight to a club called Ministry of Sound. I'm about to take a power-nap to prepare myself for strobe-lights, fog machines, European techno and the metal detectors you have to walk through to get into the club...it is said that London is the most watched city in the world. Thanks again for all the birthday wishes!... read more

So the election was last night (this morning for me). I went to a party hosted by a group called “Meet Up” that organizes events for Americans all around the world. I didn’t get back until 6:30am and I’m running on 4 hours of sleep and one latte so forgive the typos. The party was pretty amazing. We lucked out and found a spot right in front of the projector screen. And then we stood for 9 hours watching the coverage and laughing at the British news anchors. The BBC did a nice job with the exception of a few correspondences that either made themselves look stupid or managed to find the most unintelligent Americans to interview which made us look stupid. But the BBC also did a poor job of being nonbiased. There were so ... read more

Hello Everyone! I hope you are all doing very well. Let me start off by apologizing for the huge lapse in time between this post and my last. A lot has been going on here that has kept me extremely busy. My last post I believe left off right before my visit home in August. Let me start with that then: Home - My trip home was great. It was great to get some time off from work and relax. I didn’t have a care in the world for an entire week which was awesome. Big positives from the week: Got to see my family, got to see Amanda, got to drive, ate American style food, ate real American beef. What’s not to love? I really missed driving a lot. Negatives from the week: didn’t have ... read more

Just to finish up last weekend’s adventures, I went to Regent’s Park on Saturday afternoon. The park has an outer ring called the Outer Circle, which has Regent’s Park Lake, The London Zoo and London Regent’s College. The Inner Circle is Queen Mary's Gardens, which is by far my favorite part of the park. Even though it is October, there were still blooming roses. The garden is made up of hundreds of “blocks” of roses in a circular shape. Each block has different roses and its own name. Some of my favorite names were Lovely Lady, Smile Always and of course Her Majesty. Also in the Inner Circle was this miniature lake with small bridges that led to a tiny island that had walking paths and mini waterfalls all around. It was incredible. I went to ... read more

Well, it has been a while hasn't it? I'm terribly sorry. I have been busy, and I've got quite a lot to update before I go to Dublin today!! Being able to just jet off to a city for the weekend is a wonderful thing. I have been working on my schoolwork, never fear. I've also been working on getting my ballot in on time... grr... I have still not received the one that was sent out supposedly on October 1. Now, I know that it takes time, but not that long. After a couple false starts and utter despair as I thought that I would not be able to vote at all, Brenna miraculously found the emergency ballot website late last night, and I printed it out and filled in the entire ballot, president to ... read more

Well, I guess this is why I always failed at keeping a diary when I was little because I'm not so good at keeping up with them. Oh well, I'm going to try as best as I can:) Tomorrow, the entire UConn group is hopping onto the Eurostar train and going through the chunnel to PARIS!! I'm super psyched to go back because I had such an amazing experience the first time:) We are going on a Seine River Cruise which I didn't get to go on last time, so that's exciting! And of course we're going to do the Eiffel Tower, which I'm obviously excited for again, since it's the Eiffel Tower, DUH! As for everything else, I might be revisiting some amazing monuments, churches and sights and seeing some new ones as well! It's ... read more

I was feeling a bit homesick last night, so I bought all of the "Greek" episodes on iTunes to watch and it helped. But today I had a great adventure in London! I don’t have class on Friday’s so I got an early start to my mini fieldtrip. I took the Tube (which I have now mastered) to Covent Garden. There are shops, restaurants, theaters, street performers and more. It’s like the Power & Light District, the Plaza, Westport and Brookside combined. There is also the Convent Garden Market which used to be an actual fruit and vegetable market but is now used for cafés, stores and art studios. I bought a small piece of art by an artist who is an architect, painter and photographer and combines all of those talents to create pictures of ... read more

Hi there! First off, I want to say hi to Brian's mom. I recently learned that she has been reading my blog so I hope I'm keeping you in the loop. Mrs. Sara told Brian and me at the airport to look after one another but I think he's working the hardest on that. Besides the fact that I'm still every unfamilar with the Tube, I also haven't quite registered that cars drive in the opposite direction, even though I'm trying really hard! There have been a few times when Brian whipped out the "mom arm" to stop me from walking into oncoming traffic. In my opinion, he has become the ring leader of the group. I find myself walking behind him, just assuming he knows where he's going. So Mrs. Sara, your son is doing ... read more
