Great Shot of Stonehenge Hello Everyone!
I hope you are all doing very well. Let me start off by apologizing for the huge lapse in time between this post and my last. A lot has been going on here that has kept me extremely busy. My last post I believe left off right before my visit home in August. Let me start with that then:
Home - My trip home was great. It was great to get some time off from work and relax. I didn’t have a care in the world for an entire week which was awesome. Big positives from the week: Got to see my family, got to see Amanda, got to drive, ate American style food, ate real American beef. What’s not to love? I really missed driving a lot. Negatives from the week: didn’t have time to see all the friends I hoped too, not enough time.
Work - Once I got back to my humble home in London, something outrageous happened. I don’t know if you all have been paying attention, but there has been a bit of a financial crisis going on throughout the world. Work since returning has been panicky and taxing. But busy
is good and makes the days go by really quickly. On top of the stressful workload, I started a class on information systems with a tutor who told us we all would be getting C’s. This is always nice to hear. So I had to bust my butt at work and school which has left little time for any rest and relaxation.
Amanda - At the end of September, Amanda landed in the UK to start her internship at the US Embassy. It’s a great opportunity for her and she seems to be enjoying it. She just finished an application for employment has been extended the opportunity to take an exam proving she’d be able to handle life in the Foreign Service (as a diplomat).
Travel - I went to Bruges, Belgium with Amanda and my friend Sarah. We took the Eurostar train to get there so we hit the Chunnel. Bruges was really nice. We saw a lot while we were there. I also got a chance to touch ‘Jesus’ Blood’ if you believe in holy relics of the church. We ate waffles and mussels a must in Belgium. We also made a wet and rainy
stop to Brussels on our way back. I wasn’t impressed with Brussels; however, I did get to see the little peeing boy fountain.
Family - My mom, Grandma, and the Fishers (family friends) all came over to visit for a few weeks. Unfortunately, work and school have eaten up a lot of time I wish I could spend with them. But they soldier on and are seeing what they can. I did manage to go on a tour to Stonehenge and Bath with them. It was a nice little trip, except the Bath portion had very little time allotted to seeing the city. I got some great shots at Stonehenge and a few at Bath. I did a Jack the Ripper tour with them as well and it was really great. The Fisher girls went home this past Monday. The Fisher ladies go home tomorrow, and my Mom and Grandma are going home next Monday. I think we are going to go to Canterbury this weekend to top off the trip for them.
Other - I went to the NFL game at Wembely Stadium this past Sunday thanks to Mitch making tickets available to me. It was a
really great time. I met up with my co-worker and his mates. I went with my roommate Matt. It was his birthday and we had a great time with lots of shouting and drinking. We met this guy from Philly who has been working in London for 8 years now. After a few drinks and telling him we are rooting for the Phillies in the World Series, he gave us some free Corporate Wembely Club tickets, a 70 pound upgrade in seat. It was a great game if any of you watched.
In the next few weeks, Amanda and I are going to Paris for 3 days. I just booked the hotel room and it will have a nice view of the Eiffel Tower. It should be really nice assuming the weather isn’t crap. I am going to Munich at the end of November. I am also going to Colmar, FR in December before I journey home for 16 days! In between those trips I have class every other weekend so this fall should fly by! I also just got my program dates for the portion of my MBA that is in Thailand. For those of you interested in
visiting, I get there the 20th of April and Graduate on the 25th of July. I am looking to do about 2-2.5 after that exploring China. If anyone is interested in doing this with me, please let me know so we can begin planning.
I will post pictures of Stonehenge, bath, and Bruges as soon as I am able. I hope you all are well. I hope to hear from you all when you can manage. I miss you all! Leave some messages to motivate me to continue posting!
Cheers,
Aaron
