For North and South America/Writing, I like The Carretera Austral (The end of the road...) by aspiringnomad. Jason meant that to be his LAST blog, but I'm hoping he'd be back as he writes well-balanced (with all the elements of adventure, writing and photography+ history) blogs. Reply to this

For Europe/Writing, another one of my favorites.... The Breath of a Thousand Strangers. by JonathanCampion. This monologue transports you right there where Jon was. Plus I find the blog title very imaginative that I want to pinch my nose.

This one qualifies for all 3 (writing, photography and adventure) but I will settle for Middle EAst/Adventure: The New Iraq by nickkembel. Sometimes, I wonder what Nick thinks is his best blog. Hard to choose from among his pieces.

Then there's Bowing before the feet of the Heavenly Leader by The Travel Camel for Asia/Writing (though this also qualifies for adventure IMO). Also Anxious Times at the Border for Asia/Adventure for making me so nervous reading through Shane's Nokor trip. Truly remarkable insight into North Korea.

For Asia/Photography: From the Golden Temple to Points South: Our Last Week in India by Jub and Anna. I love the people and human interest shots. By themselves, they tell one hell of a story.

For Africa/Photography: Lesedi Cultural Village - 'A man without culture is like a donkey without stripes' by AnnaAdventuring. Again, the people snapshots speak volumes about the place and its culture.

For North and South America/Photography: The cloudforests of Mindo by Katravels. Those close-up shots are really something!

And for Africa/Writing, I like Cape Peninsula and Cape Town by zsteve. Steffen writes this one like a true travel guide, rather than as a diary/monologue. It is something you'd want to download if you are making a trip to South Africa.

His fluent writing style accompanied by awesome photography make for a truly good read. But this one tops my adventure list : Africa/Adventure...... Victoria Falls, Livingstone by zsteve

That, plus this one - also Africa/Adventure (sorry, can't make up my mind): Meeting our distant relatives by Weir travels. Her blogs are consistently good, but I find this most adventurous.

So there.....I was on a roll. I rest my case for now.

The Real Iran by Nick Kembel for Middle East/photography. The photos on all his blogs are good - the ones from Turkey and Greece are excellent too - but I went for this one because I really like the portraits.

Interesting poetic piece on India from Nickkembel The Psychedelic Rajasthan Experience . It's brand new, published today and fresh with the smells from India😊 Interesting way to sum up the India experience!

The category would be Asia/Writing. Though Nickkembel does good portraits.
So Nickkembel's The Psychedelic Rajasthan Experience for Asia/Writing.

My nomination for Middle East/Adventure would be The New Iraq by Nick Kembel - photography, writing, and the dare to travel to North Iraq.
For Africa there are two blogs of Jabe that stand out - for Writing I nominate If 2's company and 3's a crowd, then 25 is too bloody many to fit in a freakin' daladala - which proves that even a simple bus journey can be an adventure in Africa, and for Adventure I nominate Trucking hell which describes what must be one of the worst border crossings in the world.

- How about we continue nominations until the 30th? That way I'll have time to sort out the winners' thread...

Yes, please extend it until the end of the month.

I have a nomination under North and South America/Photography for PA Leslie's Big Island, amazing golf and night diving! - though to be precise it is for the videos. The sight of the gliding mantas at night is simply mesmerising. Reply to this

Yeah, that is a great idea! I was just trying to figure out how to compose the thread, because I thought you wouldnt have time. But, great if you can do it... 😊

Thanks Shane, when do you start diving? And I agree with you, the video only worth the trip! Specially if you consider I'm equiped with a nice, but very basic equipment. In terms of videos, I'm even more proud of my little one of the Galapagos...that was something.

I'm still have the outer reef and coral sea on my diving wishlist...we'll make sure we stop in Brisbane.

Merry Christmas to all of you guys. We are heading to Havelock for few days on the 26th. Not much connection I guess there...great beaches, diving...and doing nothing...an art that I've got to learn to master a little.

Funny point, Havelock is only few miles from some of the latest isolated tribes in the world, you speak of bows and no clothing.... Reply to this
