We're looking for the best blogs that have been added to TravelBlog this year, and we need your nominations...

Which blogs have you most enjoyed this year? Who wrote them, and where from? What makes them so fantastic?

We want to find the best stories and photos to have appeared on TravelBlog in 2009. In two weeks' time we will put a thread with links to the most popular nominations on the front page, where it will stay until February 2010.

But first, we need a shortlist!

It could be the quality of writing or the photography within them that caught your eye - or the adventure of the events that they describe. So our three categories are: Writing, Photography and Adventure.

The six regions are: Europe; Asia; Africa; the Middle East; North and South America; Oceania and 'Oceans and Seas'.

Based on your nominations, we will decide on a winner and runner-up for each of the 18 combinations of region and category. There won't be an overall winner or prize, but we hope to reward each nominated blogger with some extra exposure.

How to nominate blogs:

- Post into this thread a link to the blog(s) you want to nominate, using the code (with the individual diary code instead of the Xs - for example, the code for Ali's Diving with Whale Sharks - OMG! is [diary=418298] .

- Tell us the combination of region and category that you are nominating the blog for (eg. Africa/ adventure or Oceania/photography).

- Briefly say what the blog is about and why you are nominating it.

So, to nominate Ali's "Diving With Whale Sharks - OMG!" for the photography category, you could put:

"My nomination for Asia/photography: Diving with Whale Sharks - OMG! by Ali - stunning pictures of whale sharks in Malaysia."

- You can recommend any blog (apart from one of your own!), as long as it has been added to TravelBlog since January 1st this year.

Note: only one nomination per member, per Category/Continent combination will be accepted.

Over to you....

For Africa/Writing, I'd like to recommend A trip on the wild side... by Elizabeth Weir.
Thought it was really bold travel and intelligent writing.

Oh, I just noticed that my choice for Africa wrote the blogs last year. I will choose another. 😊

I nominate Bargaining With the Gods for Africa/adventure. It was difficult to choose a blog to nominate, because they are all good. The A to Z plan is fantastic. Using the A to Z plan to force Labarnham and her partner to get off the beaten track may not have been completely the initial plan, but that is exactly what it did, which is what made it so cool, in my opinion.

I would have liked to choose Labarnhams most recent blog about reflections on the trip to nominate, but it was written in England.

For adventure/Middle East, I nominate Discover Iran 2008
I thought I was being adventurous by going to Iran at all, as a woman. This blogger takes that one step further by going to a small village in Iran which rarely/never sees tourists, all by herself. Reply to this

For Europe/adventure, I nominate Ed Vallance's Metro Zombies. Having spent a bit of time in Moscow I really appreciate his representation of the city and his attention to detail. Reply to this

Catherine Easterbrook's Learning Spanish in South America for Americas/photography - I think it could be nominated for all the categories, so good is the writing and sense of adventure, but the pictures are especially fantastic. Reply to this

For photography/Europe, I nominate French Riviera: a swirl of Provence and lots of Fun!
This blog reminded me of the reasons to travel in Europe, rather than always cross the globe to more far away destinations. Reply to this

Another one that's hard to categorise as it's so superb in all ways! I nominate Nick Kembel's The New Iraq for the Middle East/adventure - a unique and rewarding journey, written about with real class..

Here's my two cents!

Asia/Adventure: Bowing before the feet of the Heavenly Leader by Travel Camel - I second this nomination, a fascinating account of the most secretive country on the planet.

ME/Adventure: The New Iraq by Nickkembel - I also second this one, an interesting adventure to somewhere no one really knows about.

ME/Writing: Dead Wadi Petra by Hutcho - I'm a bit biased here because he's my friend, but I love sharp clever writing, which abounds in his blogs.

Australia/Writing: Private space and peace at last (Darwin, NT, Australia) by Livingthedream - highlights well the pros and cons between life in Australia and in Asia - in order and in chaos - and the love-hate relationship we have with it.

Europe/Photos: Unbelizeable: An Italian Wedding by laandal - great collection of photos summarising the best (and worst! one pic in particular!) of the stunning Amalfi Coast. Reply to this

For Asia/adventure: The Land of the Thunder Dragon... ten days in a picture book by Weir Travels. A well-written account of a country that is virtually unknown in the west.
