In response to: Msg #210851 Whatever places interest you can be best traveled solo. If you travel with others, you have to accommodate them. Also when traveling with someone you will most likely spend your time with them rather than getting to know other people. Reply to this

I've traveled solo for a long time and enjoy it thoroughly. I love the ability to make my own schedule and do things spontaneously. My suggestions: 1. start out in your own country. There is much to get used to with solo travel, and knowing the language and customs helps with this immensely. 2. Visit other countries with good infrastructure where you know the language before visiting those with language issues or more difficult travel. Build experience gradually and learn as you go. 3. Remember to blog it all for those back home. They will worry about you less this way. Reply to this

The first country I traveled in solo was New Zealand. Is it an amazing country and has solid public transportation. The beauty is endless. I would recommend New Zealand. Reply to this

In 1995 I travelled solo to East Asia and stayed in hostels and youth hostels and in more or less every city other people talked to me (even on the street) and politely asked me about my journey. This was the case as at least then European looking people were something new and exiting even in Japan.
In 1994 I stayed in youth hostels in Israel und 1997 in the US and Canada and there it was also easy to get to know other people.
In the last decades I stayed in hotels and I guess elder people don't approach me that easily as it was the case when I was younger, which is a pitty.
But still I am happy to travel solo as e.g. some partners or kids don't like a good cultural or political sightseeing program as I normally do, especially if the weather is quite hot. Reply to this

Thank you for your reply. Are you able to give more recent examples for people who are planning to travel now? Reply to this

I can give you two recent journeys of mine as example: 3 weeks Japan this year and 4 weeks Iberian peninsula in 2021.
So both destinations are very safe and very easy to visit for all kind of travelers including solo once.
But not one single person approached me and neither did I (I am quite shy, I must add).
So besides hotel, museum and restaurant staff I talked to nobody in that time.
And here I refer to my other statement:
For socializing I see 3 core elements: hostels (shared accommodation - which I no longer use since I left university), young age (it is easier to talk to students and students will more easily talk to you if you are their age) and if you are an attraction at your destination (like an Asian in a small German village or a European in a non-European environment - in China this was the case for me in 1995 but not so much any more during my second visit there in 2004) then people will approach you on there even if you are shy like me. ďťżA solo experience is a first-rate idea that guarantees non-public increase, adventure, and self-discovery. Choosing the nice vacation spot relies upon for your pastimes and preferences, however I'd recommend considering locations recognized for their solo-traveler-pleasant environment. One such vacation spot is Japan. Japan gives a perfect combo of way of life and modernity. Its efficient public transportation, low crime costs, and welcoming lifestyle make it a great spot for solo guests. You can explore the bustling streets of Tokyo, immerse yourself within the ancient allure of Kyoto, or relax in the picturesque landscapes of Hokkaido. Reply to this
