Crossing over the boarder into Peru turned out to be quite straight forward. We were both a little apprehensive crossing a border by bus, but apart from one slight panic when we thought the bus had driven off without us, it was ok. I also nearly took my head off on some barbed wire, placed conviniently at head height just outside the toilets at border control. I was looking down trying to button up my flys and walked straight into it. There were a few people around that saw, so i was doing my best to try and act as if nothing had happened. I managed to casually stroll back to where pete was stood in the queue before i had to give the old noggin a bit of a rub to check all was good. ... read more

Mancora We left the bus station in Loja at 10pm, bound for the Peruvian boarder. We ran into this guy who turned out to be from Whiterock! It was so cool. We were talking about the mainland and I dropper a few names to see if he knew some people that I did. He didn't hahaha Anyways we jumped on the bus and ended up at the border at around 2am. It went smoothly and we got through without any problems. The only strange thing was when we got to the Peruvian side of the bridge (because we had to walk across it to the Peruvian office) there were about 80 chickens on the road, tied up and for sale! You could buy one, or a bag full of them. It was a crazy site, seeing ... read more

Ehka Tyyni Valtameri tosiaan on nimensa veroinen :) Toistaiseksi ollaan tyydytty polskimaan rantavedessa mahdollisten pohjavirtausten pelossa, mutta vahan mieli tekisi uida kauemmaksikin. Tuolla vastarannalla on kuulemma tosi hyva kiinalainen ravintola, missa voitaisiin kayda joskus lounaalla :) Tanaan toteutettiin molempien pi... read more

Our entry to Peru from Ecuador was problem-free at the border. Stepping foot in Piura after a long overnite bus ride was another story. The first thing that we noticed that was different from Ecuador is that in Peru there are no Terminal Terrestres, which are bus stations which hold spaces for all the bus companies. Instead, we were told that we had to take a taxi to a different station where our next bus would take us to Mancora. So we trusted our taxi driver to take us there safely for $2 USD. The moment that we began loading our bags into his car, a group of choros aka punks tried to rush us with pickpockets. They almost took off with Nolan’s bag if it wasn’t for our taxi driver’s cat-like reflexes. As soon as ... read more

Hello everyone, Sorry it has been a while since I last updated my blog. I have been busier than I imagined. I had 2 brand new blogs about Baños and The Jungle all written with pictures and everything but unfortunately, I misplaced the MP3 player that I had it stored on. I was going to update today but instead I have this. I might have to re-write everything unless I can magically recover it off of the laptop (which is unlikely). I´m in Peru right now and don´t really like the vibe. I want to see some Incan and Mayan ruins, along with Macchu Picchu and move on to Chile as soon as possible. Email me anytime you like, I love hearing from friends and family members and I´ll respond as quickly as I can. I´ll ... read more

When I sat in the bus terminal for three lonely hours waiting for my stinky, snoring filled and sweaty bus ride from Trujillo to Mancora in Peru to begin, it came to me that this indeed was the first time I was traveling all alone. This new awareness of my solo situation frightened me and thrilled me at the same time. When I arrived to Mancora I took a wasp looking ‘moto taxi’ that buzzed me directly through Sunday morning traffic to the Sol y Mar hostel without robbing me, (which I had anticipated happening after hearing dozens of stories of solo women travelers in Peru being mugged by taxistas). Although I was disappointed with the instant coffee and bad morning music (20 Fingers’ ‘I don’t want no short dick man’… come on now.), I was ... read more

Disaster! What a mission yesterday was.... We left Cuenca at 10am on a bus and arrived at the Ecuador-Peru border at about 3:30pm. We got off the bus and were hounded by money changers and many ¨amigos¨ trying to ¨help¨us. First they took us to the ATM to get out some money (we didn´t get any), then they took us to their friends to change the money into soles (we didn´t change any), then they took us to a uniformed policeman (not real) to convince us that they were legit, we were not convinced. Then we got taken to a ¨taxi¨(someones car) and driven to the peruvian side of the border and then on to the nearest peruvian town, the ¨taxi driver¨wanted $30 for his services, we payed him $5. We then got into a collectivo ... read more

11th July - 13th July Arrived 5am in the morning...straight to the hostel Sol y Mar! situated right on the beach, with its own pool, hammocks...it was a backpacker´s dream...i finally crashed! exhaustion from the previous days of tarvelling having caught up with me. When i finally woke up from my sleeping beauty routine, i headed straight to the beach...where sun and sand burnt my eyes! finally after 4 months of travelling, i hit a decent beach! God i miss the Australian beaches. Don´t get me wrong, it was a nice beach, but we do get spoilt in Australia! bought the tackiest possible towel, and just lay with my fellow backpackers and gloating in the soothing sun! finally attempted to start writing in my personal travel diary...some things just can´t be mentioned in a travel blog! ... read more
