Everything is just wonderful, finally! After 5 days of wishing I was somewhere other than where I was, five days that included excruciating stomach pains, dizziness, heartburn and homesickness, multiple trips to the bathroom, a failed trip to the pharmacy, a long wait in the emergency department and finally some antibiotics, and yep things are once again wonderful. But let me tell you, for a while there I just wasn't so sure. Bacteria infection for those who were wondering, lets just hope it was a once off and that my stomach isn't just super weak or these last 5 weeks are going to be well painful! that or a great weight loss program/look good for Europe plan!! I'm in Huacachino just four hours south of Lima and yes I took the Cruz del Sur, after all ... read more

Being in Lima, a city that is more developing than developed, has brought back that bit of ‘crazy’ to my trip. Everything is just that extra bit different from back home. It’s the worst traffic in a city that I’ve seen in the past 5 months. Any time we tried to go anywhere it was like a wacky race with everyone creating their own lanes and going bumper to bumper when they brake at the last second. Evidently they often get this wrong as we witnessed one crash and could count on one hand the amount of cars on the road that didn’t have an adornment of dents and scratches. Next we arrived in Huacachina, a place that is smaller than some hotel complexes I’ve been to. It consists of 3 small streets that surround a ... read more

March 22  So i decided to just spend the day and catch a night bus to nacza. I walked around the town a bit found a place selling civiche,so good, then just hung in the plaza catching up on here and wondering around a bit more. There is something going on here because all the school kids are in the plaza dressed in their uniforms with flags and theres a military band and some people possible protesting something.  So while walking around I found a coffee shop so I popped in for a bit. Then wandered around trying to find a place for lunch well I walked around for ages looking for some pig meal but everyone was sold out. I ended up having a pretty nice lunch overlooking the plaza. I started with choclo y ... read more

Huacachina, near Ica, Peru. After doing our time in Loki, Cusco, the next destination was the much hyped sand boarding, like snowboarding, but in the desert. We time our exit so that all our friends from the hostel come along, that made Jane and myself, Grif the Yank, Drew the Aussie, Joe English, Cass and Joss, also Aussies. Grif had spoken to other travellers who had already been sand boarding and learned that not only could we hit the slopes, but we could camp the night between the dunes and under the desert stars, with bbq and music to boot. Arriving by bus at Ica, we all managed to squeeze into one cab, as Joss and Cass would be following the next day, and headed to Huacachina, a small village of restaurants, hostels and tour companies, ... read more

A unos 45 min.

Huacachina day 1 At 1 pm we started to enter Ica where we got off the bus, thankfully as we didn’t think we could take much more. The bus continued from there for another 7 hours to Lima. From the bus stop we hailed a taxi and were given a good price for the short journey to our next destination Huacachina. Huacachina is a desert oasis, which is set around a green lagoon and surrounded by huge sand dunes. The main draw for coming here is to sand board down the sand dunes. We found a hotel with a pool and spent the rest of the day making use of the pool having a walk around the lagoon and exploring our options for acheaper place to stay for the next few nights. day 2 and sand buggy ... read more

I can see why Cruz del Sur is the recommended busline by many guidebooks - very efficient and most announcements bilingual but it didn't seem any more safe or comfortable than Movil or the other one starting with E which I can't remember. We arrived in Ica to meet William (956408699 tigretours_15@hotmail) who assured us that the 4 of us and our luggage would fit in his station wagon with his wife and 4 kids. It was surprisingly true and very nice to meet his cute kids who practiced their English with us on the way to Belle Sands where the staff were nice and the dogs friendly. William picked us up the next morning in a very jovial mood and shared with us the reason for his good cheer - apparently he got lucky thanks ... read more

hey everyone, these are pictures from yesterday... when we got to huancachina, we decided to buy a beer, and climb up the biggest sand dune around, and drink the (warm) beer watching the sun set.... 10 minutes in, anyone in their right mind would want to sit down and settle for the ok scenery... but we are stubborn so we trekked all the way up, and WOW! It was so worth it, and so beautiful... we went picture crazy, it was hard not too! hope you enjoy the pics. Today we went dune buggying and sand boarding, completely different then the skiing we are usually doing this time of year and it was sooo fun. we are going to try to post the videos tomorrow.... were still too busy getting the sand out of every crack... ... read more
