August 11 was a day filled with lots of events. We woke up early and went to a botanical garden. There was many people there, we had to wait outside for someone to leave so that we could park. Walking into the botanical garden, there was a parallel row of tents. Each tent had its own advertisement, and sample of product. Once we walked passed the advertisement, and received all the flyers, we walked pass vendors selling fresh fruit and an assortment of juices. Pass the juice was finally a house, were we were directed to walk through. In the house was an expo of oil paintings of all the flowers that were in the garden. After the expo, was finally the garden. The garden was set up as a circle, with various islands of flowers ... read more

I begin with apologies and promises. My mind is very blurry as the ensuing entry will enlighten you about so just ignore any glaring spelling and grammer mistakes (that one was deliberate just for banter). Also there will be photos of cowgirls for all those that don't believe my following account of the horse parade. So Medellin, 3rd-12th August was the 50th Feria de las Flores the biggest event in the calendar. Those who speak Spanish may be wondering why a "flower festival" is such a big thing and questioning why i stayed an extra week just to be here for the end of it. But this is South America and even a Flower Show can be turned into a serious party which explains the serious pain in my head, not to mention my scratched legs...all ... read more

I wake up to the sound of men screaming avacados. My shower is no longer freezing...if I stand there for a good 5 minutes the water gets burning hot, but last about a minute. So I had to take a shower with speed. We went to el weco... which is downtown medellin. There are building surrounding the city and vendors all along the street. It looks much like a flea market! We went in search for harolds guajiro boxers but found them no where. We did manage to get the kids their gifts and serval medicines that my mom was wanting. After all our shopping my mom took me to her friends dr. office. He is a dentist his office is a very small room, and all of his instruments look like those of the 70s. ... read more

Rock hard bed and no air conditioner, crick in my neck and lack of sleep, what a joy my first night. Last night was difficult the comfort of my soft cushion and feather pillow, oh how I miss. My mom woke me with fresh squeezed OJ at 7 am. So I woke up and got in the shower. OH MY GOD, the water was freezing. I had to stand there putting one hand in at a time. Trying to shower my entire my body without getting wet. After my polar ice shower, I was served arepa, pan de queso. We left at around 10 to Santa Elena. Going there, there was alot of traffic. we had to stop the car in the middle of the road, and walk to see las ferias de las flores, sigettteros. ... read more

I had full intention of getting 8 hours of sleep. However, my sister and the baby were at my house. Making me late to do my hair  Before goring to bed I set my alarm for 3:30 in the morning. I was nervous and so 3:30 came quickly. My mom was already up, she was much more nervous then me. She stayed up late planting an aloe plant and chatting with Ofelia ( her roommate). Before I knew it my brother was there to pick us up and we were standing in line to get check. We got onboard at 7 am and the flight lasted 3 hours. During the flight my I-Pod died…how sad.. Once in panama we were stuck in the airport going up and down the terminal. We ate at a horrible ... read more

nth and a half was spent at Zales outlet in Orlando. During that time, I was welcomed into a family. However, my last day of work for the next 5 months was on Monday. Though the joy of having freedom, consumes me, I will miss those ladies. Thankfully, I finished my orientation on time! And I got a list of my class plus a nice list of 10 books which I need to purchase and take with me onboard. Seeing that, the Scholarship is a full service program they do offer the option of mailing these lovely books to my cabin on board. However, this service comes at the additional cost of $200 not including the cost of all 10 books! So because I don't have $200 to waste on the luxury of having my books ... read more

Yes five weeks, 2 more to go. Surely a nice place, interesting, lots of sites modern and old. Nice beaches, islands, good food (cheap). The people are very nice, warm and friendly. The old city inside the walls is a dream. You really think you step back 500 years. At night it is like a stage when dancers, musicians, vendors and coches with horses are everywhere. Inside the old city it is very safe. Lot´s of tourist police. Outside the walls and especially in some streets and plazas it is very dangerous, for tourists and locals alike. Here are some pictures.... read more

. It´s strange but all the blog entries except the first one on MIAMI were lost due to a crash at travelblog.com. Tomorrow I'm flying back to Miami from Bogotá, so that would be my next blog. Now I can just redirect to the first one. Some of my photos from the boat trip along the Amazon River from Iquitos, Peru to Leticia, Colombia are at the kodakgallery.com website. I should say WERE available. If you use kodakgallery.com to store your photos, note that after one year if you haven't purchased anything, they delete your album. Some photos below. ... read more

So i would have written a blog entry ages ago but this website has been down. The horrific news is that they hadn't backed up properly so i have lost all my blog entries. At this moment my dad may have managed to recover all of them (THANKS DAD!!) but if any of you have saved them (OK VERY UNLIKELY) or printed them off please please let me know because i don't want to lose my work! Right onto Medellin. Before i came i knew two things about this place, firstly it was home to Pablo Escobar or El Patron the daddy of all cocaine dealers. I can't tell you all the stories but he paid for the metro system, he was running for president, he offered to pay off Colombia's foreign debt to the ... read more
