Ana and I arrived in Rio having begun the journey without pause 30 hours before. We left Lisbon on the overnight train to Madrid, said goodbye to Rachel (who we will see in a few weeks in Buenos Aires) and went straight to the airport to check in for our flight. Then flew to Brazil. Iberian air is a bit of a misery. I do not want to use this blog as an endorsement or name and shame forum but this flight was funny. We are absolutely convinced that after the first meal, the captain turned on the seatbelts sign just so the cabin crew could lounge around for 4 hours! During those 4 hours, there was not an iota of turbulence. People were sent back to their seats despite wanting to go to the toilet, ... read more

Hey again guys! Just wanted to say that we have managed to get some more photos up in the last entry we made. So you can check those out! We have also tried to upload some films, however not sure if it works to watch them?? We know some of you are not used to this site, but you can all leave comments just as in any other travel blog or "resedagbok". It is always appreciated! :) Will try to give you more news soon, next time will probably be in Africa though! Hugs and kisses PS. Hearing from back home that you have had temperatures like -5 in the morning, we can cheer you up and say that in Rio it has been raining the last few days. A LOT!... read more

I'm not gonna talk a lot about Rio, mainly because we didn't do an awful lot. What we did do was have a lot of fun and I would recommend anyone to go. The only problem with Rio is that it's pricey; if you want to go out its as expensive as the UK. That said we did cram in the major sights and spend a good while on the beach. Both Copacabana and Ipanema beaches are fantastic; on the weekend they are packed with tens of thousands all in speedos or thongs regardless of shape, size or age - power to the people, and there are plenty of oppotunities to embarass yourself playing kick-ups with the Brazilians. The Favela tour is well worth a look - again its expensive but really informative and a real ... read more

Wow so this is what Brasil is supposed to be like! Music, friendly people, cheap drinks, safe streets, and nice beaches! Last night we went to the street party in Lapa and had a blast! We partied in the streets, went in and out of clubs, danced our faces off, consumed a few too many beverages and arrived home at 4am! We left when things were still going strong too ... the bars go all night here! They're alot like Canadian bars, but less "fuss" - really, all the people want is a place to shake their booty. We met a ton of people, foreigners and locals combined, and discovered the Caipirinha (a stong concoction of sugar, lime, liquor and ice). After two really cruddy days here, it was nice to finally get some reassurance as ... read more

Oi todos!! Hope you are all well and happy! After 32 hour on planes, different airports and buses we recently arrived to Rio de Janeiro from Cuba. A LOT have happend since last time we wrote so we´ll have to give you the short version. We will at least try! Back to Jamaica. Before we left lovely Port Antonio we went on a rafting tour on Rio Grande, slow and peaceful but very nice. It would have been very romantic with a partner :) After a few hour in the packed sweaty local bus (where you litterally got very close to the locals), we setteled down in Ocho Rios for one night. We spent the night out and went to the beach the day after with some swedish guys that we met at our guesthouse. The ... read more

Oi (Hi) We have finally arrived at our destination after a long and adventurous journey. Not a good flight as I had a small panic attach when in the middle of the night on the plane two men put their rucksacks on and one crawled!!!! up the isle and the other ran behind him and dissapeared through the curtain! Where were they going! Everyone was asleep except for me and Louise cos I had to wake her up and tell her. We argued about who would go and ask the stewardess and when neither of us would go Louise went back to sleep. Managed to get to our hotel in Rio without being mugged and/or kidnapped. But we do still have Peru to go where it is rife! So we are told... Stayed in Copacabana and ... read more

Hello, We arrived save and sound after a very calm boattrip to the mainland again, where a bus took us to our hotel Santa Clara in Rio de Janeiro, a few blocks away from Copacabana beach. The end of the trip for many of us, so our tourleader Hugo suggested to go to a local disco in the favellas in the evening. We gathered in a minivan by eleven o clock in the evening, a guide took us to that megadisco, and by five o clock in the morning we arrived back in the hotel. The next day we walked the boulevard on Copacabana, and just relaxed for the rest of the day. At seven o clock in the evening a new Gapgroup was formed, so now we are ten people with a new guide Jose ... read more

The Brazilians are very proud of Rio de Janeiro. So proud that they believe the big man upstairs actually created the world in 6 days and spent the whole of the next just on Rio. They have every right to be proud, it is a truly stunning city. Situated on the edge of Guanabara bay amongst various mounds of rock and tumbling wooded mountains it is a city to rival Cape Town and Sydney for natural beauty. Add to that the Brazilian party spirit and we had great spot for our weekend city break. But before we arrived in Rio, we had some other stopovers to make. Having left the state of Bahia we headed south on an 18hr bus ride to Rio State, to the coast about 200km east of Rio itself. Still keen to ... read more
