Arrived in Rio this morning after a decent flight and good sleep on the plane. Had to hang around for 5 hours for the room to be ready, but not such a big deal. Had a look round Copacabana this afternoon, but a windy and overcast day meant not a lot was going on and nobody on the beach. Just about to go for our first caipirinha and early to bed as the time difference is catching up. Adios.... read more

So-there we were at the airport..me with my stupid cable that was so not working...Jess..with her thousands of pounds and nowhere to go. a comedy of errors in sued. To calm things I suggested a pint. The amber liquid was pure..however needed to be consumed at the correct boberage..so that the Jess and I could make the long trek to the boarding gate. need we have wasted those last few precious sips!!!NOO!!! The blasted airport was at a standstill after 3cm of rain!I mean come one people..its the UK..it rains..it rains a lot! Surely a developed country can handle the gentle pitter patter of raindrops..a gigantic 747 cannot wade through a wee puddle that my puny little pommey mother in her spanking new gum boots can wade through!nOT SOOOO! We must wait..yup..not just the normal ... read more

At the Copa, Copacabana with music and laughter and love ever after at the Copacabana!! Yes we´ve hit Rio and we´ve hit it in style!!! Guys, we thought Florianopolis was hot, well Rio just got a whole lot hotter!! We´re staying in the legendary Copacabana, which in itself is a nightmare as the song just plays in your head constantly!! Getting here was pretty kool as we had to drive through all the mountains, though we had to change buses again!! However, we had to change buses in Sao Paulo - Sao Paulo is probably one of the most dangerous places in Brazil, full of car jacking, kidnappings and the like - a proper ghetto! So we were somewhat nervous about getting off there and waiting for our connecting buses, the drive through the city was ... read more

We eventually arrived at 17:30pm Brazillian times last night after a monster of a journey - 18 hours! We both had totally underestimated the length of it - we thought it was only 7 hours from Madrid - its was actually 10 and a half. The plane was really nice though - we got fed about 4 times and ....free bar!! The cabin crew tried to get everone to go to slepp by shutting the window shutters and dimming the ligts after lunch and everyone did seem to fall for there clever tactics! However we rebelled aginst this and got steaming much to the disgust of the poor women sat in frount of us - we drank 4 bottles of wine each out of plastic cups - class and had a bit of dance - ... read more

In Rio angekommen!!!! Mein erster Eindruck von ... read more

WHEN MY BABY...WHEN MY BABY SMILES AT ME I GO TO RIO...DE JANEIRO!!!!!!! After a relaxing ferry ride from Ilhe Grande and then another interesting bus ride where I sang Peter Allen and Barry Manilow songs about Rio all the way....at the Copa Copacobana...you know the rest of it...I arrived in Rio De Janeiro full of excitement about getting to actually explore this city and try not to get anything stolen. I had met a couple of Aussie guys, one who had been there already, so things were easy to start with because I just followed him into a taxi and to our hostel. Being a tight arse and Brazil being expensive I chose the 24 bed dorm and thought that I'd see how it went. To fit all the beds in the bunks were ... read more

So the fun in Rio continues... the Peixotos organised for a couple from their church, Isaias and Legia (who run a tour agency, and are studying for their final law exams!) to take us around their city. The first day we went west to Barra da Tijuca, a long stretch of lovely beach, and sipped the juice from a coconut. The drive down there is spectacularly varied, with lush hills surrounding you on every side, the valleys filled to overflowing with residential and commercial development, the favelas (more on these later) overtaking more and more of the hills, and the double decker highway which comes out of one of the hills to hug the coast, giving amazing views back towards the east to Ipanema. We passed big shopping centres, one in particular which is called ... read more

OK, so before we get going with Brazil, we thought some of you might like to know our itinerary from here... Rio De Janeiro, Brazil Lima, Peru Cusco/Machu Picchu, Peru All over England Paris, and south of France somewhere... Italy, all over, TBC Egypt Uganda Rwanda Mozambique South Africa Then back to Oz! And the blog... One last NYC subway ride, our first NYC bus ride, all the while pushing buttons on our Electronic Yahtzee furiously to try and beat Kit´s high score, and we were at LaGuardia Airport. We were doing an overnight American Airlines hop from NYC to Miami to Rio de Janeiro. After having seen the chaos that can be associated with American flights (mainly domestic to be fair) with up to 50 standby passengers and majorly delayed flights, we were a little ... read more

Well it’s now the 4th of April and I’m sure you’re all wondering why I haven’t emailed yet. And the only excuse I’ve got is that I’m having a good time. Feel free to read on if you’re interested and if it becomes to draining or depressing for you please feel free to have a look at the STA Travel site, they may have the deal for you. So after arriving in Rio de Janeiro (river of January) on the 9th of March (36 hours later after leaving Brisbane) we were pretty shagged, (the Qantas club lounge showers in the USA were the only saviors) decided that the first thing we had to do was to check out the Copa, Copacabana, where music and passion … blah you get it, and it was huge. That ... read more
