Dar man reikalingas hepatito A ir meningokokinės infekcijos skiepas kur... read more

I signed a contract last week to begin teaching at the International School in Curitiba, Brazil. It is great to find such a wonderful job opportunity but disappointing that the language in the region is Portuguese when I have been studying Spanish for the past several years. I need to find some language lessons fast. Does anyone living in Curitiba care to shed some light on how important it will be for me to know the language when I get there?... read more

We´ve been travelling pretty quickly since Floripa, no time to upload pictures and do blogs until now. Finally have some time to relax and a decent internet connection here in Mendoza so I´ll try and catch up. Getting the car returned in Floripa was a bit of an adventure. Traffic is pretty laid back on most of the island but it is hectic in centro, where the car rental and bus station are. Lots of 1 way streets and intersections without stoplights or stop signs, drivers are crazy too. Luckily we made it to the gas station to refuel and then to the car rental place without any new scratches on the car. Success! We took an overnight bus from Floripa to Foz do Iguacu, on the border of Brazil and Argentina. Foz´s main draw is ... read more

Probably not worth mentioning this bit as the photos will speak for themselves, but just in case you really need to kill a few minutes of your day; First full day in Foz and we decided to spend it at theBrazilian side of the falls. Getting to the Parque Nacional do Iguaçu was easy from the main bus station, took about half an hour getting there. There's a bus that takes your through the park and along the way are different hikes and outdoor things you can do which sound pretty cool but are rather expensive. We got off at a couple of stops before the falls and did the Trilha das Cataratas which goes for about a 1km along the cliffs before getting to the falls, which had some amazing views. None of these compared ... read more

After surviving the 17 hour bus ride from Sao Paolo we finally made it to Foz Do Iguaçu. Maddy who I'm traveling with is at uni in Brazil and managed to get us accommodation with some students for the 3 night we're staying here. They picked us up from the bus station and drove us to their place. Very studenty house, looked a little bit like an American neighbourhood. Its quite a big bungalow and they got a pool table out back which is cool. It's nice staying with locals as you really do get a different view of a place. We arrived just after 1pm and didn't want to head straight to the falls as we probably wouldn't appreciate it as we were really tired. Instead we went to a place that I'd never heard ... read more

Of course we were excited. We always are when we reach any world famous site. Iguacu Falls being one of the examples. We said that before – we don’t like touristy places but they are famous for a reason. Their beauty usually exceeds the negative impact of being part of a crowd. We came in a low season, rainy weather being a norm at this time of a year. We waited few more days in Curitiba before coming to Foz to be able to take advantage of better weather. When we checked in to our hostel (Favela Chic Hostel – really great place, recommended) we were told that weather had been bad for a week or so. We crossed our fingers and hoped for the best;-) Actually within last 13 months we were pretty lucky with ... read more

Making New Friends, helping homeless dog and some historic towns of Parana ‘Known for its eco-friendly design, Curitiba is one of Brazil’s urban success stories – with pleasant parks, well preserved historic buildings, little traffic…Parana’s capital is a good pit stop but there is not much to hold your attention beyond a few days.’ Oh well, we beg to differ, at least with the last part of the Traveler Bible’s statement. In the end we got our attention occupied for a whole week in Curitiba;-) Read on to find out why. What took us so long to leave this place? People, of course, what else? One again we found ourselves in a very welcoming home of Curitiba’s CS-ers with loads on our agenda, with BBQs, concerts, pubs and some fine colonial architecture to see. Ju, our ... read more

Day 360 Friday 5th October It is funny how a day can start so full of hope and excitement and end in the sewer. Just about every trip we have ever had has had a day like we would experience today, and it always surprises us when our plans end in the sewer. The day started well with another great breakfast that included chocolate cake, which is the internationally recognised sign that we are near to Argentina. As we got ready Shelley discovered that the small tear in her cargo pants were getting larger but she figured today was going to be just a taxi ride across the bridge and when she gets to the next town she will throw them out. We packed our bags and headed to the foyer for our 10am check out ... read more

Day 4 we got up at 4 and travelled to Iguassu. Bit of an early start but it meant we packed a lot in. We decided at last minute to take a helicopter flight and it was amazing, Steve liked the bit where we banked over I couldn't believe Iguassu was so huge. Travelling to the falls through the forest was beautiful but the falls are breathtaking. Widest falls in the world and the sun did shine and words can't describe, neither can pictures, you have to be here. Great crowd we are travelling with and as our Aussie friends would say it was awesome. On our return to the hotel we visited a bird park where we sat in the cage with the parrots and parakeets the birds flew around us as if we were ... read more

The show must go on, despite the fact one of our heroes bites the dust for 5 days with a most unfortunate eye injury! As a result of this incapacitation, some of this blog will be skimmed over and only vague second hand accounts of events be given. However, much fun was had post injury, much fun indeed (and no references to LOST this time). In trying to escape the island (or in reality leave of our own free will via boat) a series of unfortunate events did befall me. It was another glorious day, as does befit such a place, and then I go and scratch my eye inadvertently while adjusting my cap. Cue, pain and temporary, monocular vision! One the rather choopy boat crossing back to the mainland the vision began to clear up. ... read more
