We arrived in Foz de Iguacu today after a 16hour busride from Sao Paulo, the whole journey was pretty hellish as we were hungover and we got the metro with our bags in rush hour, never ever to be repeated! We then waited and waited for a bus to our hostel which never did arrive so were predictably ripped off when we flagged down a taxi in our wet, half asleep haze and then paid 15R for a 5min trip! On a more positive note it was well worth stopping in Sao Paulo as we went to stay with Guy. I was particulary impressed that he lives in a hotel suite so I was very happy to have a proper hairdryer and a bath the next day, small things! Sao Paulo actually impressed me more than ... read more

After arriving and checking into our hotel, we made our way to the Brazilian side of Iguaçu Falls. The falls are one of the largest in the world and definitely beat Niagara. The Brazilian side offers many wonderful views of the falls from a distance. We couldn't believe how grand they were. Tomorrow we will cross the border into Argentina to hike the falls of Iguaçu. We are hoping the border crossing is nothing like the Costa Rica/Nicaragua border crossing Mike and Jody know all too well. We also thought it is well worth mentioning Mike's medical emergency that happened today. During lunch Mike let out a girlish like scream. Jody though he had been bit by the raccoon type animal that was invading the picnic area. Instead, he had been stung by a bee. Call ... read more

Hola....... Sorry it has been a while we have been busy and camping a lot so not as much access to internet as before, anyway we are now in Brazil and spent the last few days in Argentina so I will update you on that whilst Dave is asleep by the side of the pool!! okay so I think we left you in Tupiza, Bolivia where we had a long and boring 2 day drive, bush camps and then boarder crossing to Argentina and 3 days of action packed fun in Salta. Although one of teh drive days was renamed 'happy truck day' so the boys got really drunk and were a bit poorly - dave included but I will let him tell you all about that if he ever wakes up!! The only down side ... read more

Hello All!! Its been a while since I got myself on one of these computer things!!! At the moment we are JUST over the border from Argentina into Brazil. We are right near the Iguassu Falls which we had a look at today from the Brazillian side. Tomorrow we view them from the Argentinian side (apparently the better of the two). Our journey up to here has been an interesting one. We have since joined a new group in Buenos Aires travelling up to Rio De Janiero. Leaving our last group was quite sad as we had all bonded so well and made some lifelong friends. We left out last group in La Paz and the majority of them continued from La Pàz to Rio De Janiero. Nick and I flew from La Paz via Santiago ... read more

The good news keeps coming as we quickly board the bus into town (R$2.10) and find our hostel. We check in to the Pousada Evelina and they are ready and waiting for us. Everything is so seamless that we are all done by 2pm and have time to head to the Brazilian side of the waterfalls taking the bus back to the airport and beyond to the falls. At this time is is quite empty and we are into the Parque Nacional Do Iguacu by 3.30 (Entrance R$20.50). At this point my descriptions will have to leave you as we were presented with a sight that words can not explain and pictures do not justify. It is simply breath taking with the amount of water coming down. We even stand under the waterfall and watch the ... read more

I left Bonito, Brasil by twelve hour bus to arrive at the city of Foz de Iguaçu. We head out to see the Iguaçu Falls on the Brazillian side. The falls have two side one is on the Brazillian side and the other is on the Argentina side. I decided to take the helicopter ride to get a birds eye view of the falls. The pilot took off and we soared through the air for fifthteen minutes while watching the spectacular Iguaçu Falls from above. From the air the falls look great but actually small. Then we headed by van to the entrance of the Brazillian side of the Falls. After entering you walk along a path while seeing Quati which are in the racoon family run around the place. You walk along the path viewing ... read more

Inden ... read more

Yet another long bus journey to get to Foz do Iguaçu but hey this time the trip was only 24 hours!!!! We arrived at around 3pm and after talking to the guys in our hostel decided to wait til the following day to visit the falls. The Argentinian side of the falls allows you to get really, really close to individual waterfalls, while the Brazilian side of the falls gives you a complete overview. We decided to do the Argentinian side first. So the following morning we had a yummy breakfast in the hostel and then walked the short distance to the bus stop to get the bus to the Argentinian side of the falls. The bus stops at the border crossings where you get the appropriate stamps, etc. Once we arrived to the park we ... read more

Hi all, Well we survived both the 3 hour truck ride and the 12 hour bus ride... to the border of Uruguay and Argentina, and then further to Brazil... Just a quick note to tell you that this is a thermal spa area. So after a very bumpy and exhausting drive, we found ourselves in this strange town, with waterslides and people strolling around in their bathrobes... totally normal..?! Anyhoo we then managed to cross back over into Argentina..with only one small mishap. The guards did not want to let one of our tour group through...so after a lot of persuading, and a very rushed taxi trip to the bus station, we finally boarded our 12 hour bus ride that would take us through Argentina, to Brazil. Now... we were unhappy to find that unlike our ... read more

7th July - from the Brazilian side Arrived in Foz do Iguacu after another night bus and had a couple of hours to rest before being taken to see the infamous falls. I should point out that we were now in Brazil - well, that’s where we were staying - we seemed to be going in and out of Brazil and Argentina endless times. Ranked as the world’s second largest falls, Iguazu is located on the borders of Argentina, Brazil and Parguay. The Iguazu River forms a border between Argentina and Brazil with the best place to see the falls being from the Brazilian side looking towards Argentina. Hundreds of years ago the area belonged to the Guarani people, before the arrival of the Spanish and Portuguese. In the Guarani language, Iguacu means ‘great waters’, which ... read more
