So, since the previous day Vic and I didn't make it to the beach and Vic seemed in a much better shape, I felt I could leave her alone in the hostel to read her book. I went out with Leila. As we were walking out of the hostel, Tana, a roommate of mine joined us and we went for a coffee just of the main square. She had Acasi (or something rather) a very thick purply drink. Yammy! She asked for bananas as a topping. Leila ordered a banana drink. I asked for a frozen capucchino. My drink came.. it was far from "frozen" it was bearly chilled... and there was I hoping for something like the frescatos in London during the summer. We waited and waited but the other two items from our order ... read more

Today's plan was to hit the beach. However, Vic was feeling pretty shit - feverish, throwing up,... as Vic would put it "not nice"... I wasn't going to leave Vic alone and had decided to stick around in case she needs me. I'm on holiday, I can chill anyway. I spend sometime looking at the surroundings near my youth hostel. Hopefully, you'll be able to see the photos. Basically, the building on the left is partially gutted and I can see the toilet... The building on the right only has some of its walls, and some of it is used as a parking. Our hostel is newly painted and may not be in the best state but, in comparison, it is great! The rooms in Nega Meluca are not numbered but are referred to in colours. ... read more

In the morning (5 Feb), we got up at 6:30am, as we were to catch a flight for Salvador at 9:30am. I looked around..and concluded that Vic and I were the ones making the dorm a mixed one - if you get what I mean! a few hot sexy bodies... anyway... We flew with TAM Air to Salvador (some kind of meal and drinks - had some sweet youghurty drink, which reminds me very much of Bulgarian airian with sugar). The taxi driver was waiting for us and took us to our hostel Nega Meluca. The hostel management were very kind - showed us around the hostel, gave us tips of what to do on our first day and so we were off to explore Salvador. It was an interesting experience... We are finally beginnig to ... read more

The Sad Truth. . .Favelas in Salvador de Bahia So, today was a gray and wet day . . . which on the beach means there isn't much to do. Bobby, my Brazilian boyfriend-at the time, wanted to go to a favela called Susuranna, to pick up his nephew and show him the beach. His nephew had never been to the beach before. For those who don't know, a favela is an area where people have built houses on government land to combat homelessness. The rule is that if the person resides in their home for five years they can claim it as their own. Favelas pop up all over the mountainside, and many of these homes are built in a day. Built brick by brick, the mortar hastily applied, the windows glass-less, they seem ... read more

Even though I haven´t exactly been slumming it or been travelling for a while yet, this homestay felt like a godsend. My own spacious room, clean house, freshly squeezed juices for breakfast...mmm! The freshly squeezed juices and coconuts out here are just so good... We all went for a drive around the town - Barra, Pelorhino, Vitoria, Garcia... the whole place is stunning. We should have come here for a school trip whilst studying Post Colonial literature for English Alevel - everywhere you go you see the crumbling ruins of what were once decadent colonial buildings... Anywho I´m off to watch some Brazilian tv,a nd my brazilian family should be back from church any minute. And thats another thing - religion is very strong out here - the amount of times i~ve seen the word 'jesus'painted ... read more
