Well, it 's just a couple of weeks until the start of my vacation with my daughter, Carrie. Nothing as serious or historical as previous international trips posted on travelblog, but hopefully fun and relaxing. We are headed out on NCL's Norwegian Spirit from New Orleans with stops in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize. All countries where I would like to spend a full week exploring jungles, archaeology, and culture. Oh well. At least I get a full day at each port! And warm weather! We have shore trips planned that include beautiful hike to waterfalls, seeing Mayan ruins, and a river trip. And a beach day, of course. The ship itself was just refurbished in November, so should be nice and clean and fun. I joined Cruise Critic, a cruise community online, and will meet up ... read more

Today is our last day at sea. We were up pretty early as the we keep gaining an hour as we travel west. We again met Larry and Henna for coffee and breakfast. We enjoyed our balcony, watching the fish and seagulls. Time to think about packing but not wanting to. We lounged by the pool; it is another sunny, warm day. After lunch we played cards with Larry and Henna. Funny times since only Larry knows how to play cards. Ken and Larry make up their own game and it was fun. They still have to come up with a name for it. After that Ken and Larry play bean bag again. Their final record is 8 wins, 3 losses. We go back to the room to pack, shower and get ready for dinner. We ... read more

Today is our second last day :( We slept in today and then met Larry and Henna at the Coffee shop. We seem to be on the same schedule without planning it. We always see them there in the morning! After breakfast Ken and Larry went to the bean bag game and found out they are finally (after suggestions from everyone) doing a tournament. The bad news is they already have enough participants and will not allow them to play :( The day is sunny and warm. I will update you later.... read more

Booze Bags I enjoy beer festivals, events or any event where the soul purpose is to get wasted on an assortment of beers. I guess you could say a bar is the same thing, but bars are often filled with lonely souls, kids that shouldn’t be there and predators of both the male and female variety and very rarely are you treated to a deal or a heavy pour. A beer festival is the best event possible, because the people putting it on share the same goal as the people drinking. They just want to get us as drunk as possible and we want to be as drunk as possible. I started the day with a mission statement, “12 beers, 3 hours, get disgustingly drunk. I attempted to keep track of how many beers and what ... read more

In an effort to catch up I’m combining Monday’s Cozumel port day, and part of Tuesday’s Belize port day. Cozumel is one of the ports my beautiful bride and I have looked forward to on this cruise. Back a few months ago we booked an excursion call “mini jeep and snorkel tour”. Our excursion was scheduled to start at noon so we woke and showered about 8 AM and went to the Red Sail restaurant and had a nice breakfast buffet. At 11:00 AM we walked off the ship and down the dock to find the place where our guides would be waiting. After we checked in we still had about 30 minutes before the tour started so we walked around port and bought some sun screen. Purta Maya, one of the main ports in Cozumel, ... read more

The ride on the tender was fun. My beautiful bride and I watched as the ship became small and distant. A beautiful site she is. The dark, Duke blue, water surrounding her as the sun lit on her starboard side. Soon we could hear the sound of the reggae music coming from port over the drone of the tender’s two outboard engines. .After 10 minutes we were on the dock, through the security gate and walking through the shops. Shopping in Belize is like most of the other ports. There were lots of coffee cups, tee shirts, shot glasses, and average everyday people trying to make a living off the tourist. The one thing that stands out is the presence of thousands of fake purses and designer items. My beautiful bride being knowledgeable of fine purses ... read more

Geo: 18.8335, -67.8735 Today we were at sea. We all planned on sleeping in but, the sun now comes up on our side of the ship so it was pretty bright and I was awake at 6:30. I decided to run down to the laundry and see if I could get some wash in. There were a few washers about to finish so I waited. By the time the laundry was done it was 9:30 and I thought it was time to get to get the girls up so that Raymond could clean our room. It took them some time to get ready but we made it to the Promenade Lounge by 10:15 for the family craft. We made masks. After the craft we went to Shutters to see if we could find the photo of ... read more

Just got back from sailing in paradise! What a great trip, we left out of Brooklyn, NY on the Caribbean Princess. It was a HUGE ship with way too many people, but everything was great, the food, the atmosphere, the entertainment! My sister and I buddied up with some crew members from Bulgaria, Macedonia, Australia, Canada, and England, everyone was hilarious and let us in on the fun all over the ship. We stopped at 4 ports, San Juan Puerto Rico, St. Thomas, Tortola, and Turks and Caicos Islands. Gorgeous places, San Juan was full of history and culture. We ate at a real Mom & Pops type restaurant with delicious Puerto Rican food and homemade sangria :) In St. Thomas we I took a ferry to the Island of St. John and did an ... read more

We are currently on route to Aruba and an announcement has just come over the public address system that Travelscope Holidays went into Administration yesterday. Currently we have no more information as to what will happen for the rest of this cruise and understand that the ship's owners are in discussion with ABTA regarding the completion of this trip and the next world cruise. You may see us sooner than expected!! This may also explain why we stayed so long in the Panama Canal yesterday.... read more
