It has been a busy cruise. A new director came on this week, so I’ve been training her. She’s great though and I’m actually excited to leave and let her do her thing now. And while I am very much looking forward to heading to the Triumph and seeing people there, I’m leaving great people behind here. One of the best parts of doing multiple contracts are meeting up with friends you know from previous ships. I’ve been able to spend some great time here with my friend Jason, who I know from the Destiny. It’s also been so good to see Moira and Dana again. The Camp Carnival team here is super, such sweet girls. I’ll miss them. Though it’s only been a few weeks that I’ve known them, I’ve spent a lot of time ... read more

We're back home now. Showed up in Columbus with 24 degrees and several inches of snow on the ground wearing almost nothing. Wandering around the long term lot at Columbus Airport trying to find the car, then finding it after 5 minutes of walking around, Jennifer an icicle. The thing was covered in a 4 inch layer of snow and half inch of ice. No scraper, umbrella handle had to do. Rear wheel drive, she would not come out of the space, some chiseling with the umbrella handle got us out. Ohio is great. We get back to the house. I geared up and shoveled snow for a half hour, got the car in the garage. Ohio is great. Welcome back. Just got Tama's message, too late, we had already flown back. New photos, videos and ... read more

Saturday, November 22, 2008 You know those stories you hear from people and you ask yourself, “How does that even happen? How dumb can you be?” Well, after yesterday, I will no longer be asking myself that. It happens . . . Sean and I are supposed to be on a cruise ship right now approaching Haiti, and instead we are currently at Newark Airport waiting for our flight to the Dominican Republic - yes, in order to catch up to our cruise ship. The good news - we are currently laughing about it and believe it or not, there were very few tears because seriously, how dumb can we be? Yesterday was Friday, Nov. 21. Sean spent the day working at home, and I spent the day running errands and cleaning the apartment for our ... read more

What a whirlwind turn-around! I arrive home from South Africa only 2 days before Christmas. There was some mad rushing around replacing things lost during my mugging (license, health card, etc.) before everything closed up. Then lovely holiday time. I’m so happy to have been home for a holiday, uninterrupted. Time with my family, including the extended family, is so valued right now. Lots of time with my best friend and the little guy I love (her baby). Jet lag really kicked my butt for the first week or so, but otherwise, it was just wonderful. However, less than 3 weeks later, I was already packed and again on a plane! 10 days ago, I signed onto the Carnival Fantasy. The Fantasy is one of our oldest ships and she is so small! Well, actually she ... read more

I have decided to start a travel blog to track my footsteps around the globe. I travel for a living. Working as an art auctioneer on cruise ships, I can make my own hours, so of course I never work when we are in port. This is my time to discover the land... From now on I will write about my adventures in each of the various ports I travel too. I will also add pictures to each blog. Today was blustery and breezy. That is so not a problem on an island where the temperature stil gets to the low 80s. Sam actually got up before I did (although to be fair I was awake, just relaxing) and so we started our day just after 7 am today. That meant plenty of time to update blogs, download videos and photos, and get breakfast'ed. Sam and I went down to the pool for some morning tanning time even though the clouds were rolling in. He actually thought he'd go swimming, but our pool is colder than the sea...so he worked on his tan while I worked on mine sans sunblock for thirty minutes. I am so serious about going home bronzed! And for me it's a labor of love (I am naturally about one shade ... read more

Monday December 21...do they know it's Christmas time? Evidently here on Cayman, they know it better than most places! I think the address is 389 South Church Street. This road changes names a lot but it goes pretty much all the way around the island. This particular place is right across the street from Sunset House, which is where Cathy Church's photography shop is (more on that in a bit). The light display is simply incredible. There's no way to describe this fully so watch the videos. They're short. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ATiB5-OO1hQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8IuhLjOWww http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7xwj2pT-mU They have every kind of light-encrusted animal from penguins to flamingos, all the moving ones like deer and polar bears, they have a dozen moving Santas (and one REAL one!!), a Ferris wheel, and literally hundreds of strings of lights ever... read more

We arrived safely Saturday and stayed one night at the Westin Casaurina resort & spa. Pretty much just your decent hotel room. I've gotten so spoiled staying in time share condos! We had to get an airbed for Sam and it took them over two hours to bring it after I'd asked for it, and, it was HUGE...easily a queen sized, and it was very thick as well, thicker than my mattress at home. Sam was very comfortable, to say the least! Activities Saturday included the grocery store run (they are closed Sundays so everyone needs to go on arrival and check in), liquor store (we needed to go to two because the first one didn't have "my" rum stocked, oh horror, but Mom saved the day at the Tortuga store), and of course some pool ... read more

Grand Cayman, December 20, 2008- January 3, 2009. This is my third trip to Grand Cayman. I love it here; the first time we came, March 2006, I instantly knew that I had found the place on Earth the renewed my innermost being. I feel that my soul finds its comfort here and is refreshed. It's something I smell in the air, feel in the sand between my toes, sip in the rum...I am at my happiest when I am here. Time flows differently on Cayman. We'll get to the beach and I'll feel like it's been hours....and only one or two hours will have passed. There's no hurry and scurry here. It's peace and calm and joy. A few notes to begin. First, please pronouce it correctly. It's Cay Man, not caymun or min. If ... read more
