It’s been five weeks since I got home from Fiji and other than the weekend in Memphis, they’ve all been spent at home (well, around Southern Ontario – which is home!). It’s been so great to be home because there have been some exciting things happening . . . starting with – Alexis and Kevin got married!! And it was a surprise wedding!! I was “in” on the surprise. They actually told me in early August, when I was still at camp. Because otherwise I wouldn’t have been in the country! I’d planned to go to Fiji and New Zealand but I couldn’t miss my sister’s wedding so plans changed. They were married on 10/10/10 – one week after I got back from Fiji. I spent that week staying at their house playing wedding assistant running ... read more

We woke up early Monday morning and made the decision to go. It was time to cast off the lines and set sail across the Gulf of Mexico. The preparations were done and the crew had arrived and everyone was anxious to get underway. So Jen packed up Kona and her stuff in the rental car and hit the road, driving across the country with the help from her dad, who was flying into Miami later that day. And the Rum Runner set sail for its final leg of the journey home, to a small coastal community in the Bay Area of Houston known as Kemah, Texas. Overall the trip was good, although hot... very very hot. The first day or two we were able to do some sailing, which was great. The highlight of the ... read more

I had not had a *real* vacation since April 2009, and I was going crazy for warm weather. Jason knew how badly I wanted to get away and gave me one of the best Christmas presents a girl could ask for - a CRUISE! I'm apologizing now for the lack of detail in this post as I'm actually writing this September 2010, I'm hoping the abundance of pictures will fill in the gaps! The weather didn't cooperate much and it was by far the rainiest cruise I have been on (my 6th total!) but who can complain when they are on vacation?!? We took Carnival's Fantasy ship on a 4 day cruise with a single stop in Cozumel. It was super windy and many of the excursions were canceled. Luckily we didn't have one booked at ... read more

December 2, 2009 ABC Jeep Tours Wednesday morning at eight we stood outside the Beach Club and waited for our ride to the ABC Jeep Tours office in Oranjestad. As folks waited for their daily tour bus out front of the Surf a giant custom monster truck off road vehicle came to pick us up to get us to the start of our tour. We quickly notice there aren’t any Jeeps at ABC only Land Rovers. Two bench seats in the back sit four on a side facing each other. Twenty-two people were divided in to three groups for each of the Land Roves for our day tour of the island. We were assigned to ride with Curtis our tour leader. To our surprise he then asked a person from each of the other two vehicles ... read more

Aruba, Marriott Surf Club November 29, 2009 Karen and I were invited by Kim and Jim to share their timeshare in Aruba the week after Thanksgiving. This was the perfect way of escaping the beginning of winter in New England. We stayed at Marriott Surf Club on Palm Beach in the High Rise District of the island. The island of Aruba is justly known for its great weather, fine beaches, and exquisite restaurants. Aruba is an interesting place to visit, it’s a desert island the size of Nantucket. The weather was always great at 87 and breezy every day. This is supposed to be the rainy season and three times during the week it clouded up rained for 5 minutes and then dried up about 5 minutes later. The population of Aruba is about 100,000 people. ... read more

Well today is Thanksgiving and we’re at sea. I got up early to go mass which was in the main showroom. Then went back to the cabin to get Lin and head up to the Lido for breakfast. She went out to sit on the promenade deck while I went to the cabin to give my fiancé a call. Then I headed to the Queen’s lounge for the Mariner reception. There weren’t nearly as many people as I expected there. There was one couple with 700 days and 2 with 300. The only medals presented were to a couple who had 100 days and one woman with the same who wasn’t there. So most of the rest of us must have been in the 100-300 range. They headed to the Dining room for Brunch so I ... read more

Well today was a sea day and was all about what sea days should be. I started the day with posting yesterday’s blog and then headed up to mass in the Queen’s Lounge. There was quite a group at least 60 people there and the priest said there were 45 at the one Sat night. He’s from Philadelphia and seems very nice. He has done mission work in Peru and with the Zulu tribes in Africa. I’m sure he has some interesting stories. After mass I grabbed a quick breakfast since I figured Lin would still be asleep but she got up shortly after I got back to the cabin. So after she had something to eat she headed off to the Port shopping talk while I went to Bingo in the Crow’s nest. Looks ... read more

I was up pretty early so logged in to check on some emails etc and soon thereafter John was online too (3 hrs earlier due to time differences) so we skyped some more. Lin was half awake during some of the conversations and did eventually pick up on the balcony when he asked about my surprise again. She was thrilled so that was good. Finally said goodbye to John which was hard since we probably won’t be able to Skype again till I get home next Sat. We got ready and headed down to breakfast which was a pretty good buffet. I hadn’t arranged for a shuttle to the pier and figured we’d just take a cab over about 11. When we went down they had one of the shuttle drivers take us over so ... read more
