I spent most of last week and weekend resting. Kameron was crook during the week (and still recovering) so we tried to keep our activity level to a minimum especially since it was her birthday. I enjoyed the change of pace and we were able to celebrate Kameron’s birthday with a nice dinner at Bin 272 (or some number like that) on Rundle Street. I had calamari and it was delicious (thanks for reminding me to taste test the fresh seafood here, dad)! I spent Valentines Day making chocolate covered strawberries (the strawberries from Hahndorf with Cadbury’s white chocolate-Cadbury’s is the chocolate of choice here)…just what the doctor, I mean… chemist ordered for Kameron’s sickness. I was also fortunate to have a taste of Hershey Kisses and conversation hearts on Valentines Day. My supervisor had a ... read more

As most you know by now, I have arrived safe and sound in Melbourne. Sorry it took me so long to write but the past week has been pretty busy, settling in and learning my way around. The flight over was very long but otherwise uneventful. In all I was in the air for a little over 21 hours, but suprisingly the jet lag wasnt that bad at all. (Tip for those thinking of coming over, make sure you fly in mid to late afternoon. It makes a huge difference.) Originally I had wanted to fly directly into Melbourne but now am glad I had a stop-over in Fiji. I was very impressed with Fiji from my brief encounter. Not only did the people seem very nice, but it was absolutley gorgeous. At the airport ... read more

What a day... Full of adventures! In the morning we left the beautiful hostel in Wanaka, said good bye to all the travellers, and headed south to Te Anau, in the Fiordland. Our first stop on the way was Arrowtown. We didn't find what was interesting in the town except that we managed to shop AGAIN :-) (some beautiful jewlery, yes, again. They have stuff made of a shell called Paua shell, and I fell in love with it). On the way we stopped for WC, and only thanks to that, completely by chance, we saw the steam train that is still opearting in a place called Kingston. For tourist only of course... but still nice. We arrived to Te Anau and booked an evening trip to a cave with worms. Yes, cave with worms, no ... read more

And so to the land down under.. flying into a wet & sticky Brisbane, it was with great pleasure that I was met by my old uni chums - particularly Mark Currell, whos wedding we were to attend that weekend. Now Cuzza has really landed on his feet here - not only is Justine lovely, smart and a thoroughly delightful person, but her family are very much Brisbane glitterati - and that made for a quite spectacular wedding week. Initially the boys headed down to the ever lovely Byron Bay for a couple of days of leisurely drinking and beach cricket while the girls stayed in Brisbane for the hens night, shopping, nail painting, discuss inane celebrity gossip, praising their boyfriends and whatever else women do when I'm not around.. Byron is now an uber trendy ... read more

This was a real fun day! First of all, no driving :-) I needed a rest from that... In the morning we went to a museum in Wanaka called Puzzling World. It has a great exhibition of illusions, a maze, and mind cracking games room. We were actually first to arrive to the museum and we had the illusions rooms all to ourselves. I attach pictures from the giant and the dwarf room, illusion used in Lord of the Rings movie. See me and Shiri exchange our heights :-) One room presented holograms, one room had 168 faces on the walls, and they all seemed to follow you when you walk. The illusion is so real, it was amazing, although after I understood the trick it didn't work anymore :-( The last room is built slanted, ... read more

Well after 2 days of travelling I have finally arrived in Christchurch although I can't complain, the trip hasn't been bad.. While travelling here I met up with a group of medical students and some doctors from the USA who were on their way to India for a missions trip with an organization so I hung out with them quite a bit during layovers. We had an eight hour layover in Singapore which was really nice. The airport there is amazing, very beautiful and they even had free internet for passengers, showers and an outdoor rooftop pool if you wanted to swim between flights! They also offered two tours for free-one was an island tour and a city tour. We didn't have time for the island tour by the time so we did the city tour ... read more

Well, in Te Anau. Stormyish weather has dictated no glow worm trips of mysticalness for me. Of course they deceided this after I paid, and also after we set off. Much overcrowded tourist seasickness, a demonstration that the boat is far from watertight - but all in all a fun, free experience. It was way wilder than jet boating... Will be trying again tomorrow, between coaching and cruising Milford Sound. It really is a hard life isn't it? Have switched accommodation styles to cabin (cheap room with a block to sleep on) from hostel (cheap room with a bed but far too distracting for any sleep). Queenstown, advenutre AND party capital was the final straw. The UK boozehounds were on fine form, ensuring they came home superdrunk every half hour just to alleviate the chance of ... read more

WHEW! Per my sister's request, I'm adding a very short entry....It's been a crazy couple of last weeks trying to see everything here. I just got back from trekking on the Milford and Routeburn Tracks in Fiordland in the South Island. It was absolutely fantastic and beyond beautiful. I can't really describe how great it was to be surrounded by such intense green and glacier water and mountains and valleys carved out by glaciers. There were waterfalls tumbling out of the mountain sides, green trees swallowed up by green moss surrounded by green ferns, and of course the glaciers at the top of the mountains. Incredible. It's a feast for the eyes and soul and I was a glutton. Of course it was raining for quite a bit of the time I was in Fiordland, but ... read more

We were warned before that the road leading to Rob Roy track is terrible. I knew I had to cross some creeks with the car... and that the unsealed road is bumpy. Well the creeks were not too bad (in the first I felt I am driving an amphebian car, but I got used to it). However the 32 km of this road were bone breaking. I started out driving 20 km/h so I don't break the car, but then I understood that you feel much less the bumps ("coulisses - is that a word in English???) if you go 80 km/h. The noise of the stones hitting the car was horrible though :-) I drove and prayed that everything will be ok :-) Anyway, it was worth it because it lead to a most beautiful ... read more

We actually arrived yesterday (Friday) but didn't want to add to the already huge post. This is where the diarised journals stop and the interesting only stuff appears, we'll keep it updated as much as we can and will include photo's as and when we can. We arrived at Nadi (Nan-dee) International Airport around 1pm, it was a 3 hour flight from Auckland and we gained an hour too, we're now 12 hours ahead of GMT. The heat instantly struck us, it had just stopped raining and the humidity was as hot as I've ever felt, it was only 25 degrees but felt about 35+. We've arrived in the hot and wet season, the other being warm and dry, it averages about 29 at this time of year with a humidity factor that is in to ... read more
