I arrived in Coromandel almost two weeks ago after taking a bus to Thames and then hitch-hiking from there up the peninsula, me and the hoop all orange and sparkly in the sunlight, both of us a sight to behold at the edge of the road, waiting for a ride....which was no problem at all to find. After a drive along the coast wit the velvet green mountains and rolling hills along side us, I was dropped off literally outside the herbal dispensary, my abode for the next month. I am slowly developing a real love for this country and its people and already I have found somewhere where I could quite happily get stuck for the foreseeable future. Heya zusammen, Ich habe mich dann doch mal dazu aufgerafft oder besser gesagt dazu entschlossen meinem letzten längeren Trip im Coromandel auch einen Bericht hinzuzufügen. Irgendwie fühlt sich das mit nur Bildern nicht so richtig an und da ich es nun mal mag, wenn es sich gut und richtig anfühlt und somit gibt es nun also doch noch was zum lesen… Immer wieder für eine Überraschung gut, auch wenn bestimmt einige schon damit gerechnet haben, dass ich das einfach nicht sein lassen kann :O) Tja, aber was gibt es so Neues? Hmm nach einiger Zeit, die ich nun ein bisschen zur inneren Einkehr genutzt habe bin ich also wieder voll da…ist auch besser so, denn sonst treibe ich Roadinfo womöglich noch in den Urin, nachdem ich letzte Woche das Survey Auto fast in Brand gesetzt habe ... read more

My number one advice that I learnt on this trip is that when you are travelling around a country by car, it is a good idea to have a spare Fan Belt handy to replace for when the car breaks down! Which is exactly what happened to me when I was travelling up to Matarangi on New Years Eve! Having to work on the last day of the year is a bit of a bummer, so I tried to be prepared the night before so I wouldn't need to get everything ready for the day that I left. On Saturday, we left Taupo and drove up to Hahei on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. We stopped at 'The Talisman' cafe in the Karangahake Gorge and noted that it was getting a lot warmer and more humid the further north we travelled. We arrived at the camp-site late afternoon, set up camp in the intense heat and then, typically, when everything (chairs, tables et c.) was out and all the tent doors were open, the sky opened and deposited a lot of rain on us. We are rapidly coming to the conclusion that it only rains: a) when we pitch a tent, unpack the car and leave all our gear out on the grass or b) when we have to take down and put away a tent.
