I'd been invited to stay with friends of Michelles in the North shore as she was also staying here. Claire and Ian are both really friendly and made me feel very welcome during my stay. I suppose the only thing I've really done in Auckland since being here was going into the city centre to have a look around and also go up the skytower which is pretty much the same as the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, except you can jump off the top of this (connected to a cable). Michelle and her mate Claire had already done this a couple of days before and said it was amazing. Decided not to do it because to be honest I could hardly look out of the window without feeling giddy and also because myself, michelle and ... read more

Blooming heck … what a fantastic, crazy, happy, wonderful time I had on this woorlwind trip back to New Zealand, it was 12 full on days. And as the lady at customs said as I was leaving, ´what a short stay´, little did she know how much I jammed in. The trip back from Costa Rica took a turn for the best when I discovered I had one free entry into the Air NZ lounge in LAX, thank goodness because that airport is the worst and I had a sweet 8hrs to kill. Arriving into Auckland Thursday morning I headed straight for Petrina and Steve´s place to pick up my bridesmaids dress, after a quick chat I was on my way home. I pretty much headed straight out to get the dress altered, pick up stuff ... read more

Hey everyone Sorry it took me so long to post. My other blog was not working so I had to start a new one. I arrived in Auckland last Sat Morning. The flight was pretty long. It was about 27 hrs door to door. I arrived in Auckland at about 5 a.m local time which was a bummer cause I couldn't check into my hostel till 12:30 so I was stuck walking around with all of my gear. But the weather was nice and I was eager to explore. I decided to purchase a bus pass which allows me to travel over the entire country at my own pace. I just have to call the day before to book a spot on the bus and I am good to go. I spent my first two days ... read more

So today’s the day…all the last minute details have been dealt with and now it’s just waiting for the time to come where we hop into the car and take off for the airport. Mixed feelings of excitement, nervousness and a little sadness to leave some people behind, are all running through me- although, I have a feeling once I land and am situated over in New Zealand is going to be the time that it really hits me…that I’m really going to be gone for 10-11 months….and then I’ll be on the opposite side of the world…ha! Since I graduated college in May 2005 it’s been my plan and dream to do a trip like this…and a year later…it’s finally happening. I’m trying to go into this experience with no expectations and just take what ... read more

Got our Backpacker campervan. Drove to Paul's and had a nice roast beef dinner that his wife Debbie cooked. Then we drove all the way up to Paihaia at the Bay of Islands. Slept on the road overnight.... read more

Merry Christmas everybody! I miss you all a ton during the holiday, but I still had an amazing Christmas. I'm sorry that I've been sporadic with my email updates. I've just been living at a million miles an hour for the last couple of weeks and, although I got to check my emails for a few seconds as work, I have not been able to sit and write for quite some time. So, I think last time I had just got hired at Greenpeace. That feels like forever ago. I am loving Greenpeace work and doing it very well. The rest of the team (save a couple of outliers) have become my family and we hang out all the time. I have spent more days than I can count the last couple of weeks staying out ... read more

My first day in Auckland was really in Wellington, I was up at 4.15am to nip down to the British High Commission as I needed to drop my passport off for my Visa renewal, annoyance. However the process was very quick and they assured me it would be all done in 5 days, it was actually completed in 1 day and delivered back, so much for 10 working days which is what I was originally told. On the plus side I did get to see the Beehive, hooray! After getting back I had a quick lunch with Miss Cassidy before she went back down to Welly. Later that week I met up with Katie and Ants (who’s wedding I am back in NZ for), we dropped my bridesmaid dress in to be altered, and then we ... read more

I had been to New Zealand before, long story which I might blog about some other time, so I had somewhat of an idea of what the place was like. After an uneventful 10 hr flight from Los Angeles I arrived in NZ. I thought NZ Customs might hassle me a bit because they had the previous time. Relatively young age, shaggy hair, and traveling alone fits some sort of profile? Guess having shorter hair this time saved me the hassle. I had booked a shuttle(which actually turned out to be a large van) that was going to drop me off right at the hotel I was staying at, but the online site I had booked it with, just prior to leaving, crashed after I had booked it, so wasn't entirely sure it booked my ... read more

Well, its been some time since I wrote a Travel Blog to u all. I think it was when Diana and I were still in South America. Just to get u up to date quickly over the past 7 months. We flew back to Europe in May and picked up the Ford Escort van Steve, my son, had given me Sept previous, I had left it in Austria at friends and it had been buried in over 2 metres of snow over the winter. We put a new battery in her and set off to drive around the coast of Europe. Ended up covering over 7000 miles or 11,000 klms and visited Spain, to Gibraltar, around the coast of Southern France into Italy where we watched the final of the World Fotball cup with Italians in ... read more
