Four of us are off to Ecuador to learn Spanish for 4 weeks. We leave Auckland on 22nd July, flying to Quito via Santiago. Rosemarie is already in Canada with her family, and we'll meet her in Quito (that sounds exciting). After spending the night in Quito, we'll be picked up by the owner of the Spanish school, Washington, who'll take us about 85 kms north to Otavalo, a small town of about 25,000 inhabitants, where his school is situated. We'll cross the equator on the way, but I don't think it'll be equator-like temperatures, because of the altitude (2800 m). Otavalo's main claim to fame is as having the best market in South America (!) - and we'll be there for 2 weeks! We'll be learning Spanish in the mornings, and hopefully doing some voluntary
