We arrived in Christchurch, New Zealand after a short 3 hour flights and the 5am start around 3pm to pick up our campervan/home for the next 3 weeks. With baited breath we were shown our graffitted people carrier - thankfully it wasn't as bad as we were expecting considering we went for the cheapest thing around! After stopping off at Westfield for a snack and pillows etc we set our sights on Queenstown, only the underestimate the size of New Zealand and at 10pm, starving and after being up for 18 hours we were still looking for a place to stay for the night around a third of the way to Queenstown. Today I went bungee jumping. I know I can't just put it out there, I have to build it up, build up the tense, so here I go. This morning I woke up around 1pm. I had a massive sleep in, but I think I needed it. I honestly had no idea what I was going to do with my day. I thought I had done everything I wanted to do. Then I remembered, Auckland has the largest tower in the southern hemisphere. I quickly got dressed, ran down to the coffee shop across the road, grabbed myself a latte to go and paid for a cab to take me to the Sky Tower. We headed to Auckland on the 16th of March to join in with the fun and festivities of the Volvo Ocean Race, currently located till Sunday 18th March in Auckland, Teams from NZ, France, USA, United Arab Emirates, Spainand China are taking part in the round the world race, stopping off in the aforementioned countries along the way, and no expense has been spared to let the public join in with entertainment set up in the Rce village in the viaduct harbour. Most of it was wasted on me, but I did enjoy looking at the yachts, wow some of them must cost the earth! and the slant on teaching people about the need to clean up the seas, or as they put it, providing recycling and waste solutions. Na een paar weken, begin ik het hier goed gewoon te worden. Vooral door het weer voel ik mij thuis. Het is hier echt een Belgisch zomerweertje: 's morgen fikse regenbuien, 's namiddags forse regenbuien en 's avonds... plensbuien! Feels like home! Alhoewel, ik heb op het internet gezien dat jullie in België mooi lenteweer hebben. Tijd om dus naar huis te komen want hier zit er niet veel verbetering in voor de volgende dagen. Ik zou jullie willen vragen om een kaarsje te branden, zodat we hier minder wind zullen krijgen dan voorspeld. Morgen hebben we namelijk veel kraanwerk te doen en bij te veel wind kan dit niet doorgaan en lopen we dus vertraging op. Dan moeten we 's nachts gaan werken... Herfstweer was ons deel vandaag! Miezerig, grijs weer. Maar dat kon de pret niet bederven. Gisterenavond rond 23.30h (NZL tijd) is Groupama als eerste aangekomen en vandaag zijn de andere duiven gevallen. Bij de aankomst van Groupama was het uiteraard al donker en dat maakte alles nog spannender. Vanuit de duisternis dook de Volvo 70, onder verwelkomend 'gezang' van een Maori, op. Alle grote jachten in de haven lieten hun claxon horen en honderden lichtflitsen lichtten op. Rond 5 uur in de ochtend kon het zeiljacht uit het water gelicht worden. Tot dan had het team nodig gehad om alles van boord te halen, de mast te demonteren en water te scheppen. De Groupama was namelijk op de laatste dag nog tegen iets aangebotst.
