Well, since my last blog I have now travelled through central Australia and made it up to the capital of the Northern Territory Darwin! I have had a fantastic trip and seen some more great sights. The highlights were swimming in the thermal pools at Mataranka surrounded by hundreds of fruit bats, eating green ants and kangaroo tail while learning how to throw spears on an aboriginal experience day, a yellow river billabong cruise only topped by a jumping crocodile cruise and a hike in Kakadu National Park. Now arrived in Darwin for some much needed air conditioning after temperatures reaching 45 degrees! Not nice when you are camping. Had a wild night in Darwin last night and now have a few days to chill before I head to Cairns!... read more

We finally got aroung to having a house warming party at the beginning of November. It was also a goodbye party for Liza & Micah who are going to do some travelling and work in Canada for a few months (you can check their blog out at Liza & Micah ). We were lucky enough to have decent weather for the event. We had fairy lights, candles, and even a fire to create a party atmospehre. There were lots of people, lots of drinking and lots of dancing. That was until the police dropped by, after some complaints from the neighbours. Ooops. (The neighbours were actually at the party as was pointed out a number of times, but I guess the old people's home down the road didn't appreciate the music too much!) So the party ... read more

We arrived in Sydney on Nov 3rd. After such interesting navigating, we managed to find our hotel/apartment building. It was about a 10 minute walk from the outskirts of downtown. For those that know Vancouver, picture you apartment being on Hastings, just one block before Hastings turns into the really bad part of town. On Thursday afternoon, after checking into the hotel and taking a little break, I decided to head out for a walk and walk I did. It was about a 60 minute walk from our apartment to the Sydney Opera House. I got my bearings straight, checked out an internet cafe and planned my activities for Friday and Saturday. On Friday me and the family went to the Sydney Aquarium. We spent about 2 hours there and I was a bit disappointed. I ... read more

alright cobbers, just wanted to check in once again, just finished work late again after yet another wedding function, i say this with all honesty, the guys tonight where the most boring bunch of people i have ever heard speak. it seemed as if they all wanted to give a speech but they all said the same boring shite. plus they were 36 & 39 so everyone there was pretty old and alas pretty minging, nothing gets the shift ripping by like a bunch of good looking girls. so pretty much i've been hanging out and doing very little else, i'm going to go down to phillip island where they have penguins, kangaroo's and koalas, so that should be cool i could get pecked, punched and severly scratched by possibly the cutest animals on the planet ... read more

Well, i landed in Brisbane to be greeted by Emma (and rain!). A crazy, slightly tearful reunion on my behalf (its amazing what a long haul flight and the realisation of what you're doing can really have!). Anyway, once we had composed ourselves, Em gave me the guided tour back to their house in Upper Coomera. The journey mainly consisted of me saying "wow" every five minutes.... I mean how often do you see a flock of cockatoos and other amazingly colourful birds just sitting on the fence as you drive down the highway! To say the least I was very excited! So my mini adventure in Brisbane began......well I'm afraid there's no real gossip but that's pretty much all we did. Em and I had plenty to catch up on and poor Gav had to ... read more

Dear Diary, (that's all of you people...) It is officially one month to D day. I am sitting in my very small college room lamenting about the price of beds in small rooms all over England, and in Paris and New York. I think i have begun this fine art of travelling down to its bare bones, but i think there is still alot of meat, and unnecessary (but tasty) fat to go. What do i mean? Well i am, as most of you know, obsessively organised: case in point - a diary entry 1 month out, (yeah i know, as i said obsessive but i figure that most of you won't read it till i go - so there.) But even i have been finding it a bit of a struggle to get on top ... read more

Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Fraser Island November 3rd 2005

After finishing in the Whitsundays and returning to Airlie Beach for a couple of days, we set off on another midnight bus southbound. Desination: Hervey Bay and Fraser Island. Upon arrival @ our Beaches hostel we are introduced to the group we will join for a 4-wheel expedition of Fraser Island - the world's largest sand island. Holden elects to be the group leader - only after no one else speaks up. Thus the 3 day/2 night journey begins. The group consists of eleven members: 2 french women named Sophie and Cecille; a Frenchman, Thomas; a German named Andreas; Nathalie, from Canada; and an English contingent of four - one couple(Adam and Sarah), Graham, and Will. We were all strangers at the beginning of this trip, but not for long. We are quickly asked to decide ... read more
