For those of you who have been keeping up with our blog entries, you know that in the last entry from Melbourne we said we were off to Tasmania and didn't know what to expect. Well, this is another one of those places where we were soooooo glad that we did because we both loved it! We rented a car for a week and decided just to drive around and stop at places that looked good to us. We made it a whopping 15 minutes outside of Hobart before we stopped for the night in a town called Sorrell. We got the spa room in a place called The Barracks, which you can guess by the name what it used to be, but is now a quaint B&B. I think it was built in 1829. A ... read more

Sophie and I wanted to fill up our valuable 2 weeks together so we took a 2hr train ride to Katoomba from Sydney and spent three days touring, hiking and partying in and around The Blue Mountains! We met a couple of other pommie girls and a few randoms at the local pub. Thanks goes to Jamie, our hostel manager and personal tour guide! Oh and his crazy friends Shane and Joe. We even rode the mountain climbing tram... and the explorer bus was wonderful and impressively reliable! :-) Once again, a good time was had by all!... read more

We stayed at Mission Beach for 3 nights. There's not much there except for a big beach but we mainly stopped in order to go white water rafting in nearby Tully. The rafting was good fun, though would probably be better in the wet season. Many of the rapids were more like puzzles ( finding gaps big enough to pass through ) than they were white knuckle rides. Still, we enjoyed it and it was a good way to stay cool and Sara only fell out of the boat a couple of times.... read more

Well, after waiting and waiting to find out when my work commitments here would end, I finally found out that I am free FFRREEEE!!! So, I booked my ticket straight away and gave myself 3 days to pack and organise. Less time to worry. I leave early Friday morning, so I have a lot to do in the meantime. This is a little constrained by the fact that I seem to have pulled a muscle in my left shoulder. A 21 hour plane flight is a bit troubling at this stage! My thoughts are mainly focused on the fact that I am leaving my beloved husband and cat for three months. I will miss them both terribly. I am also extremely worried about the squalor the house will descend into with Adam living on his own! ... read more

Ordinary Days Well, we had just another ordinary weekend. You know the type - - daily trips to the beach, a few hikes over sea-side cliffs, a Guinness Book bungee attempt, the world’s largest airplane and of course a battle with a new nasty bug. Just your basic weekend down under - - where nothing is done on the small scale. We had read that there would be some sort bungee jump attempt down at the beach on Friday morning around 8 am. So we hustled ourselves together and got down there around 7:45. Sure enough there was a decent sized crowd on the promenade along with media vans, wild, bungee-jump appropriate music, and best of all free bacon and egg rolls for everyone. It turned out the jumper was A.J. Hackett the actual inventor of ... read more

Well, I did it. This morning at 11.30am I was collected from my hostel taken to an air strip, given 5 minutes training, flown to 14 000ft and then thrown out of an aeroplane! I have to say that for some reason I wasn't scared at all and loved every minute of it! It was such an amazing experience and I can't wait to go again. My instructor - Bruce (No I am not making it up he really was called Bruce) was really fun and has done an excellent DVD so you can all see for yourselves when I get back exactly what I went through. There was a 60 second freefall and then it took about 5 or 6 minutes to land on the beach. Amazing, breataking scenery over the reef and great views ... read more

So, we're back from a wonderful trip to Queensland with just a few more days in Aussie before we head to Hong Kong. After Holden blew up in a heated argument with the shuttle driver from the airport, we found a new hostel near downtown - Wake Up Hostel. Pretty nice, but we had to room in a dorm with four other people. It wasn't that bad. One attraction we had yet to see was the Blue Mountains National Park, just two hours outside of Sydney by train. Nice day trip to a very pretty area. The pictures tell the story.......... read more

Hey mates!

(Photos will be added soon) I went to the Deakin (University) End of Year Ball on Friday. Don, Malik, Marrika, Klauss & Michael study there so I tagged along with them. It was held in the Palladium at Crown (huge casino in Melbourne) which is a really magnificent room. As we arrived we were greeted by wait staff with trays of drinks and some Show Girls (the theme was Vegas!). It was a fun night, although a little bizarre to be eating dinner with dance music playing. It was only on from 7pm to 12am so I guess they were just trying to fit different types of music in, but I think they could have held off till desert! The food was delicious and drinks flowed all night. There was a small bit of dancing before ... read more
