Well there's only 2 weeks left until I leave Melbourne, on my way to Hanoi!! The realisation has just sunk in, so I am madly packing, organising, and panicking... My fundraiser is only 6 days away. Oh god what have I done?? I have frames, but no prints that fit in them, no hanging wire on their backs, not enough wine, and possibly no one actually coming... (in which case the lack of wine ceases to be a problem)... read more

Hiya, we've just finished our last day in Sydney and although we packed lots in in 4 days it's definitely not enough. For those of you who've spoken to me recently ignore the Brisbane and Port Macquarie entries I'm just about to write--- it's more for my own record to remember when I get back, as I didn't have time to write last time. Brisbane We spent 2 days drawing our aboriginal masterpieces onto canvas in an art studio. Mine is pretty rubiish as expected and I then went and rolled it while it was still wet so it all stuck and peeled. Oops. But we loved doing them and it saved a lot of money having us shut up in the arty basement for all that time. After that we spent a day at the ... read more

Introduction Last Sunday was Dan's turn to pick the walk and he asked if we might try apple picking - something he had noted that you can do in autumn from James Muecke's book Adelaide for Kids (p152). As the book recommended, we looked at the "What's on" section of the Sunday Mail to find out that apples were indeed ripe for the picking at Summertown from 11 to 4 pm. To finish off the afternoon we also visited the nearby Mount Lofty Botanic Garden. How to get there To get to Summertown for apple picking, take Greenhill Road (passing through the Summit road intersection) and into the Adelaide hills. When you enter Summertown, look for a large "Pick your own apples" placed on the corner of Holliday street on the left hand side of Greenhill ... read more

I've arrived at the Sunshine Coast - I'm once again a traveller!! I flew into Maroochydore a week ago - Easter Sunday. I stayed at a backpackers called the Cotton Tree Beachhouse Backpackers - it was a nice, quiet hostel. Sadly, though, the first day I stayed in Maroochydore it rained...and so instead of heading to the beach, I spent a few hours at the shopping mall. Not exactly what I had planned for my arrival at the sunshine coast. I DID, however, meet some nice people at the hostel, and it was nice to hear their tales of coming down the coast, and to start planning my stop-overs on my way to Cairns (thanks Joyce!). The second day I decided to head up to a place called Rainbow Beach - it is the second alternative ... read more

Wow, so my utterly fantastic, once-in-a-lifetime trip… was severely disappointing. I saw a lot of cool stuff, but so much bad happened it is pushing ridiculous. Let me start at the beginning… I arrive in Sydney and got a little lost while looking for my hotel. Well, that was fine. I made it to my place and was in for a pleasant surprise. I thought that I was going to a hostel and it turned out to be a hotel! Which was nice because of the beds and accommodations was really nice but I was kind of looking forward to making some friends to hang out with while I was there. Since I didn't I resigned myself to walking about the city by myself. I saw the ANZAC War Memorial and Bridge, Sydney Harbour Bridge, ... read more

Hi to you all. A while scince our last blog update. No we have not dropped off the face of the earth however now I am working there is less time to play up on the computers. However, now that I am at work, literally at work on a sleep shift I have some time to update while the residents sleep. After having some issues with starting work I have scince been in training. For a month. The world famous big rock. Uluru. (or Ayres Rock). I walked round the whole of it which took about 3 hours. I was suprised at it's perimeter, with so many indentations and little caves. I really thought it was going to be more oblong shape, just like you see in the pictures except of course for the aeiral view ones. I also couldn't believe at how huge it was either. It felt like it was alive and you were tiptoeing round it. It really is an experience. Many sections had signs saying do not take photos as it is a sacred aboriginal site. Of course I saw a few people read the sign and then just go ahead and take a photo anyway. No respect, it's horrible. Just like the people who climb Uluru. It says ... read more
