After the basewalk...After the basewalk...After the basewalk...

All kitted out in my outback gear...
The world famous big rock. Uluru. (or Ayres Rock). I walked round the whole of it which took about 3 hours. I was suprised at it's perimeter, with so many indentations and little caves. I really thought it was going to be more oblong shape, just like you see in the pictures except of course for the aeiral view ones. I also couldn't believe at how huge it was either. It felt like it was alive and you were tiptoeing round it. It really is an experience.

Many sections had signs saying do not take photos as it is a sacred aboriginal site. Of course I saw a few people read the sign and then just go ahead and take a photo anyway. No respect, it's horrible. Just like the people who climb Uluru. It says in so many places that the Aboriginal Community of this area do not want you to climb as it is the same trail that only initiated men climbed years ago. It also makes that part of the rock look ugly, with rails going up it and you can also see the colour change from people's shoes wearing it away after years and years. But
Magical...Magical...Magical...

The moon, Venus and Uluru...
still the Australian Government have Uluru leased to the Environmental Section for 99 years. We will give you back your sacred rock but for 99 years we will go against your beliefs and let people climb it...grrr it makes me mad...

On the base walk I also saw a Thorny Devil. They are so cute and funny. They move with a little funky sway in their step, to make them look like a leaf in the wind or grass blowing.

The sunset was amazing. We all got to our little viewing spot with enough time to set out our camp stools and have some wine and doritos with dip. The colour change of the rock was beautiful, and for a mere 5 minutes it really glows and then very quickly dies down to a more dull grey colour. It felt so strange, all these people with their eyes solely on this rock. It was as if it was a big monster just sitting there, everyone waiting to see it breathe or something. Or maybe to get up and start walking, after a process like those Transformer toys...ahahah that would be hilarious...

Sunrise wasn't as beautiful as sunset,
Thorny Devil...Thorny Devil...Thorny Devil...

Very cute indeed, and very hard to spot...
but still it was very pretty. A few of us watched from the top of the 4WD. Again, I thought to myself how this time last year none of us would have ever imagined a moment like this, but there we were, people from all over the world, sitting on top of a car watching the sunrise of Uluru...oh how I love travelling...
